Scoops work well. ;) My salsa is nice and thick, so wimpy chips won't do! ;) A glass of milk may be needed after eating some from this batch! LOL

We now have a septic system installed! It is ready for poo poos now (well, whenever we get water and toilets anyways!! LOL) I also got the trenches filled in where I ran the conduit for the power lines and ran the water piping to the road. So now I can let the grass grow! I heard that it is always greener over the septic tank!

I know you guys are thrilled that part is complete, with the weather turning colder those major outdoor projects are best put behind you.

Yes, I say "let the grass grow" since keeping it short is my job..... LOL... I mowed the smoke out of the riding mower again this weekend... oops.... :eek:and I WAS being careful!

We had to tie both dogs down so that they would not eat the workers this week.... when they were doing to perk testing, Peppermint Patty was loose... and
the guy said that he had to work with one hand holding a shovel between him and the charging dog... (but she is such a sweetie!) I wish i could have seen that! LOL

Good news to share! Our new home is now breathing well on it's own! It got it's powerlines run yesterday and the meter was installed! I can now disconnect it's umbilical cord! Maybe I should leave that for Cookie, for when she gets here!

Okay so I'm kinda new to you and Red Haired Girl, Magistrate. Where is it you guys live? It looks beautiful. I don't like flat Central Indiana, and am a mountain girl at heart.

I know...you weren't addressing me...but they live in BEAUTIFUL Mercer county WV. I'm in swampy Robeson county NC, but my heart is always in WV! Where were you raised at Daisy?

I was born in Southern Indiana where there were at least a little bit of hills. I live in central Indiana now, where its flaaaaat. Our family has land in SW Pennsylvania and we go out there once a year and its gorgeous. I want to live there full time. We drive thru the northern portion of WV and its beautiful there, too. Heck, anything from Zanesville east on 70 would work for me.

We live in Southern West Vriginia only a few miles off I77.... just let us know when you are drivin' by, and we'll sure give you a salsa break!

We love it here.  I have lived all but 2 years of my life in this town. Magistrate is a transplant from Michigan, but he is a keeper.  :smitten:
He has lived in WV for about a dozen years.

The mountain that you can see behind that log home (our neighbor's, by the way) is East Riber Mountain, and after you top it and start down you are in Virginia.
So, we are not far from the state line. That mountain is due wouth of the "Terrytory".  (that is a play on words with our last name :-)

Sounds good! I'll be here for a bit longer. Then I have to start my chicken and noodles. OSU/Penn State is in 2 hours...I'll be AFK when that game is on. (A tough game, cause I like both teams a lot. OSU is my favorite, with Penn State being 2nd...even above my own alma matter, Purdue!)

I can have baskets made with your team colors on the trim strips on the band, and football tack covers. (little footballs around the tacks on the trim strip.)... KEWL...

This is something new with our company... and i think it is exciting... only drawback is that i have to order 10 at a time... so, find some willing fans and you can eat your game snacks out of a beautiful basket. :-)

Hmmm, Lets see...

One for OSU games (scarlet and gray)
One for Colts games (Blue and white)
One for Pacers games (Blue and gold)

...should I start naming off other teams I watch? Penn State, Notre Dame, Purdue, Alabama...

You know, I'm not really sure of the names...I've had them for a while - one was a gift, one was a hand-me down, and I purchased one a while back at a party. I have something like the Market, Button, and Tea Basket.

Your basket sounds DIVINE! I bet it's great to sell them.

Sunny, the ones that you listed are the most popular ones.  The Market is on sale this month.

Notatroll.... you have to have some sort of license for the bingo game... am not sure what it is, but a local sorority was going to do one, and had to forget it, as they didn't have the license.  BUT we do have a Longaberger(R) fund raiser that is new... and quite KEWL... there are flyers to take around to get orders.  They are a little more than usual, but that is where the money comes from . Also, i usually give all my profit above the cost of the flyers.

Let me know... you are in Bluefield, yes?

LOL!!!  My husband has FORBADE any cats and since it's his home, too, I respect that.  Course, since old dog was put to death, he has forbade any further puppies, too....but he LOST that round...it's MY house, too...

Puppy hunt begins when I get back....I'm going the humane society/dog pound shelter route and mixed breeds with lab input are the best, IMHO.

Nota you do have to apply for a Bingo license and the restirctions are very strict.  Your better option would be to partner with someone who already has a license, provide the volunteers for that night and accept the proceeds that way.  We were going to do it with the National Guard and decided against it.

Since you are doing the driving, I am more flexible. If you are staying in Beckley, then you will need about 45 minutes (provided you drive the speed limit) to get to the Terrytory. How early are you wanting to get up after a hard day on the river? LOL I figure around 9am would be great, if that's OK with you. How early are you wanting to get up after a hard day on the river? LOL I figure around 9am would be great, if that's OK with you. Let me know if that is too early for you! I'll have plenty of coffee also!

Alone and lead footed...LOL!!!  9 am it will be and thanks for the time approximation.  I am so looking forward to this....

Actually, they are Cherry cabinets. Notice the pegs in the corners? It has alot of Craftsman styling, so I thought it would go well in the log home. This is what will cover the one wall that is not log, above and beside the cabinets. Between the counters and cabinets will be a tumbled stone tile.

In all seriousness, the cabinets are beautiful...is that a copper inlay in the glass? May I ask if you crafted them or purchased them?

We have SO much work to do on our home we're buying, I may be tapping into you & LRHG's resources over the next few months.

Oh, and the light outside is perfect! A rustic elegance...

The caning is copper! The cabinets are called "Lynchburg Cherry" and were made by KraftMaid.
The LRHG is quite artsy fartsy, and I have a fair amount of knowledge about alot of stuff. I am always happy to share what I have learned with anyone; so if you have questions, or need ideas, just let me know and we will do what we can to help you!

Hi FC's Mom... thanks for checking in on us....
what's up is.... life.... we have been as busy as one-armed-basket-weavers!
magistrate is at Lowe's tongiht getting some  fittings for the stove (heating stove) that will go in the Family Room.  I think that he is thinking about keeping me warm when the weather goes bad.  I freeze.......

Magistrate and a friend actually DID get a major accomplishment... about 1/3 of the tongue in groove ceiling is up... and is looks fabulous!  In this picture you will see that Mag. covered the cabinets to keep them in top shape....

well, rats... i could not get the pics to load into photo bucket... but i am sure that Magistrate will be able to acomplish the fete..

thanks.... hey hey... weekend coming up!  Wonder what all we'll done??????????????? :smash:  :whip:

Gryphon, the cabinets were right off the floor at Lowes.  Except we chose a different stain.  They are made by KraftMaid.  When you order, there are different qualities, and different standards to go with each... these are top of the line... and they really ARE as lovely as they looked in the pictures.  The glass doors were the priciest part, i think... and so, we only got 6, and had originally wanted 10.  Oh well, they are now the hightlighted area . :-)....I love them... they have copper caning between the pieces of glass....ooooo la la!

we do not have the hardware for them yet.. that is a "little rock" and we are still trying to get all the "big rocks" first....

And, yes, Sunny... it is wonderful to see the efforts of the work.  I know that this is especially true with Magistrate. First of all because he is the primary worker on the house.  He has been able to do it all, except for 3 things he has hired done... 1) the concrete slab, because our heat is in the floor, and it had to be perfect, also because if the slab is off, then nothing else will be right... it HAD to be perfect.. so we did our homework and hired the right crew... and know what? it IS perfect.
2) the installation of the cabinets.  we had thought that we'd be doing this, but it was a no brainer.  They had a special.  installation was about $1,200.  And tax on the cabinets was over $800 if i remember correctly.  The special was, if you had Lowes do the installation, then the tax was FREE>.. hmmmm...so, we figured it was a deal we could not pass up.  It was like getting them installed for $400. Not to shabby. (and we had a 10% off purchase coupon that saved us about $1,500 on the cabinet purchase! WAAAAAAAAAAAAA   HHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!    3) the septic system. Magistrate had knowledge to do this, and we had planned to rent a "digger" and do it... but come to find out, it HAD to be installed by someone with a license... license cost about $300, so , heck... we let someone else do the diggin'.... we paid them, and had that time to invest in other jobs.

It has been fun... we have been at it for over a year now, and there are days when i am just tired, and know that same is true for Magistrate... but, i keep telling myself:

Good things are worth waiting for!

I just caught this today, RHG! I brought my husband into this thread to show him Magistrate's handiwork...and the kitchen cupboards! The move is set for November 17th...but the closing is this Friday! So, the work begins this week!

Thanks so much for asking. How are things in WVa coming along?
Title: Re: Update on the house
Post by: Magistrate on October 30, 2006, 10:06:53 PM
Thanks for the update Sunny! Things are going slow here, but OK. Had a snag come up about a termite treatment that was done before I poured the concrete floor. It seems that the treatment that I had a company do for termites, in order to protect my log home, wasn't a chemical for termites and only a third of what was needed for the square footage was put in the ground! The state Agriculture Department asked to check behind them and found this out for me. Of course it onlt took them since the 4th of July to realize this! They are filing charges against the treatment company and said that the company is going to have to make it right. But to do that, they are going to have to get the treatment under the floor of the house somehow. They can't drill through the floor because of the heating system set in the concrete. So they are going to have to go through the foundation from the outside somehow. The state said that the company will be contacting me about it. It was pretty frustrating since the fix won't be an easy one. I am getting gas hooked up this week, Lord willing, to heat the house while we are working on it. I hope to be putting up more of the tongue and groove ceiling this weekend. It depends on whether I can get the insulation up by the weekend. We are going to help with the fall festival at church tomorrow for the kids, so yet another day will be not working on the house. But the kids are worth it. Have a great week and happy closing on your new home!

Title: Re: Update on the house
Post by: Magistrate on November 10, 2006, 10:27:21 PM
LOL! Well let's see...

I got my heating system put together and ready for mounting on the wall in the laundry room. I have cleaned up the LRHG's sewing room and got her closet lined with cedar and the lighting installed. I got insulation in the ceiling over the front bedroom and Living Area. I got wiring ran to the Greatroom from the breaker box. I installed the gas stove in the Greatroom and ran the piping to the ouitside for the propane company to make their hookup. I have it ready to serve as our secondary source of heat once the house is completed, but until then, it will serve as our primary source of heat. I got part of the cedar installed in the Master Bedroom Closet.
And today, we spent the entire day at Lowes! The Lowes store in out town is closing to relocate to a better location. They had a 20% off sale going on to clear their inventory, as well as a 10% off on top of that if you can show you were once in the military. I saved 30% on three very full truckloads of stuuf! It was about $1300 in savings. I was hoping to get all of the sheetrock that I need for the interior walls, but unfortunately, there was several contractors who were waiting in line to take it when the store opened this morning! We did get much of what we needed to complete the house though. The LRHG had fun today seeing much of the remaining stuff we needed, go into the house. It is good that we saved alot, but now I have alot more stuff to work around! LOL I guess I can live with that for $1300!  Most of what I have been doing lately would not be easy to see in pictures, so I will wait a while before posting more. Maybe in a couple of weeks I will have some changes that will be visible in pictures.
How's Fatcat? Have a great weekend my friend!

Slow but sure, my friend! I worked hard on it Saturday. I got some more wiring completed and insulated the Laundry Room. I only need to insulate the Master Bedroom and all of the insulation will be complete. I got some of the T&G ceiling up, but that is not an easy job for one person since the boards are 14 feet long. I have a friend coming over next Saturday to help with that, so I will wait on that until I have help. It goes a whole lot faster when you have an extra set of hands! I got my ducting run for my Master bathroom exhaust fan, and relocated my temporary lights so they won't be in the way while I insulate and cover the ceiling with T&G. I got a knee wall built for the loft that will isolate the Laundry from the Master Bedroom (so I won't hear the dryer running in the Bedroom). This will give the LRHG a nice shelf above the Laundryroom to display some of her baskets on. The LRHG and I talked about it, and we both decided to take our time and not rush into the house, so that I can do the best job possible and get the best results. We have a place that will keep us warm, so we don't really need to hurry. If I take my time and do it right, it will be a showcase, as well as a home. We will most likely move in some time in the Spring. Even at that, it will only be about a year and a half after starting the project. I have been building just at a year now. I think that is pretty good considering I really only get one good day of work on it each week, and I am the contractor, builder, and buyer, as well as the customer! ROFL! I will get pics later this week if at all possible. I haven't forgotten that floorplan either, just been to busy to dig it up! Have a great afternoon!

Had a great one actually! Got lots done yesterday. The heating system is all hooked up and ready for water when I can get it. My son suggested that I run a garden hose across and feed the house from the trailer so we can run the main heat. It is a good idea, since I would only be recirculating whats in the lines. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to test the system and get any bugs worked out before the flooring is put down. I will get it ready for pressure testing and then decide whether I want to do that or not. The LRHG is all for it! LOL  She is just naturally cold, so any thoughts of heat is a good thing to her!

Hi all... thanks for the kind notes you have sent my way.  It is in the process of being an "up and down" kind of year at school, and with life in general.  I thought i'd just take a minute to stop by and put the "Howdy" on you guys.  Magistrate is, of course, in the house working tonight.  He and a friend worked for several house today, still working on the ceilings.  That tongue-in-groove is beautiful, but "easy" is NOT an appropriate adjective for it!  But, every piece gets us closer to finished on that part.
we had a blast a couple of weeks ago when the local Lowe's was closing it doors (only to reopen in a new local across town, so not to worry!) But, they were closing the old one out with 20% off.  So, Magistrate and I spent the whole Saturday either shopping or making trips to and from unloading the truck.LOL... and, oh yeah... it was Veretans Day weekend... so, as Magistrate "drove" submarines for the Navy for 13 years, we got an extra 10% off! We had a blast... and got most of the fixtures, etc. to complete the work. (Now we are 'working around' some of the things, but it was a good feeling to get the materials, and at such a good discount!
The Lord has richly blessed my basket business with the upcoming Christmas holiday.  I have been busy working the business, delivering baskets, ordering baskets, etc.  I have 2 BIG boxes in the front room that need to be emptied, and then delivered or wrapped before I get them to hubbies to put under the tree for their honeys.
I will be back in as things wind down... or when I can wind down! LOL
Everyone take care, and take time to remember "Jesus is the reason for the Season!"

Well my friends. I have gotten the gas logs up and working and the new home is warm to work in now! But the best news is that I also have my underfloor heat working! I brought the system up ytesterday and it is still raising the floor temp as I type this. I am doing it slowly to prevent shocking the concrete floor. I have the temp at 66 and am slowy bringing it up to 71. I hope it will be close to that point when we get home from church. I will let you know what we think of it later today when the floor is up to temp.  Have a great day!

Reading about your heated floors makes me think of those early morning trips to the bathroom. NOTHING is more shocking than how cold the floor gets. LOL
Title: Re: Update on the house
Post by: Magistrate on December 11, 2006, 08:22:17 AM
Here is a picture of my new furnace.  The green box on top is the controller for the pump that is fed from the house thermostat. The smaller box below that is the floor temperature controller. It has a probe in the floor that provides a temperature input to it and it maintains the floor temp at the desired setpoint when the house thermostat is calling for heat. The gold item in the piping is the circulating pump that moves the water through the floor. The gray knob to the right of that is the temperature regulating valve which keeps the water circulating in the floor at 110 degrees. It circulates the water through the floor and meters in hot water as needed to maintain the set temp of the water in the floor. It can be set from 110-140 degrees. I am keeping it at the low side to prevent shocking the concrete floor. It has brought the floor up to the desired setpoint temp and will be maintaining the house temp about 3 degrees above the gas stove setpoint. It felt quite nice to touch the floor and have it not be cold. I will be playing with it through the week to see how the different settings will affect the heating system.

So, hot water through the floor? My toes are feelin' toasty just thinkin' about it. What about leaks? I mean in the future. How will you know and fix them if there happens to be a leak in the piping going through the floor?
Title: Re: Update on the house
Post by: Gryphon on December 11, 2006, 09:45:24 AM
oh I love those heated floors!! Im going to try my hand at tiling after Christmas is behind me...laying travertine in my master bath. Im worried it might be cold (my master bath has a porch UNDER it...so the floor is cold anyway). I looked into one of those electric "warming mats" to lay under the tile...its supposedly an easy retrofit...we shall see!

Magistrate, is the house ona slab?
Title: Re: Update on the house
Post by: Magistrate on December 11, 2006, 10:14:57 AM
The piping is PEX tubing and is set into the concrete slab. There is 1600 feet of 3/4 tubing in the concrete and it has a 50 year warranty. There are no joints anywhere in concrete so the likelyhood of a failure is very slim. The slab has rebar and remesh to keep it stable and the tubing is wired to the remesh. Even if the slab were to crack, the rebar and remesh would prevent any movement that could possibly damage the tubing. There are three zones, all equal in length, but all controlled together by a single controller. It is a single slab set on a 12inch gravel bed with 2 inch compressed foam insulation the sparates the gravel and footer from the slab. There are drainage lines to keep any ground water from contacting the slab and reducing it's efficiency. The footer is separate from the slab and the slab is stepped onto the footer to prevent heat loss through the sides of the footer in the winter. The concrete was done in three pours. One for the footer, one for the main floor that is heated, and one for the front porch which is not heated. The tubing should effectively outlast the house. It was pressure tested to 125 PSI for two weeks before pouring the concrete to assure it would be able to hold up.

The mats work well from what I understand Gryphon and are easy to install. You just need a 120 VAC supply to them. It would be a nice selling feature for a "flip". You will find that it will be well worth the investment.
Title: Re: Update on the house
Post by: Gryphon on December 11, 2006, 10:22:16 AM
Ive used them in several flips before...and in new construction too...
I think that since Ill have my floor torn up anyway, it will be money well spent.
The new house in WV for my parents has a slab in the basement...and we may well end up doing something along the lines of what you have...their basement will be a walkout with guest rooms...so it doesnt need to be heated all the time...
Title: Re: Update on the house
Post by: Magistrate on December 11, 2006, 10:43:19 AM
If you do Gryphon, you will need to make sure that ground water cannot contact the slab or you will find yourself heating the world instead of your floor! LOL

Here is the latest update on the house for everyone:

I had some friends from church come over and we worked on the ceiling today. We got just over 15 full rows of boards up today. It was very good progress. We did bring the rest of my T&G into the house so that it would stay dry and acclimate to the house temperature and humidity before we start nailing it up. It does look like I will have enough to do the rest of the ceiling plus. That is a good thing! Here are a few pics of the ceiling after we finished for the day:

You can see that we have the wall covered with sheathing now, so when I get the ceiling completed and sealed, and the drywall up, I can start placing stone on that wall. The face of each shelf extension will be covered with cedar to give some definition to each of the extensions. I think it will be a nice contrast to break up all of the stone that will be on that wall.

Hi Sunny. Yes they are architectural shingles and they are green. I chose a 40 year shingle because it had more character than the standard 30 year shingle. I was told by many people that I needed to put a metal roof on the house. I did consider that, but I decided that I would not go with metal. The reason was that I wanted a log home with a roof on it, instead of a metal roof with a log home under it. I think a metal roof would have taken away from the character of the hand hewn logs. Here is a pic that shows the shingles a little better.

Thanks Henry. It is right at 1600 sq. ft not counting the 2 lofts. The lofts will be used to display the LRHG's baskets on the edges and for storage of seasonal items back out of sight. In my pics I posted on the 6th, the second pic down in the Greatroom looking into the loft above the main bath, you can see two columns that extend into the ceiling. Those will be covered with a hand hewn log siding and it will appear to be two large hand hewn columns once facing them is completed. In between the two columns up in the loft, the LRHG has an old treddle style sewing machine that will be displayed there with one of her Grandmother's quilts draped over the sewing machine. It should look really good.

So tell me Magistrate, all things being equal, did the log home cost more or less than a conventional framed house?

The wife is all wound up about wanting a log cabin again.  I'd just like to know if it is even a possibility.  I'm a "cut it off twice and it's still too short" kind of carpenter, so it would have to be mostly a turnkey deal for me.  Although I can do plumbing and electrical fine.

I found a cute log cabin that we wanted to rent while the new house is being built. Problem is, its in a very high growth area and the land it's sitting on has been zoned commercial, and since they started building the newest big mall project in Hamilton County, its in a terrible location and probably will be torn down. :(

My parents bought a log house in a similar situation 20 years ago and moved it...in situations like that, sometimes you can get the house for free--the owners are glad to not pay for demo.

I honestly think that it would be close to a wash for a turn key home. It may cost a bit more for the home itself, but the labor to construct it would be somewhat less, because once the log walls are up, the only left to do to them is staining. No insulation, sheetrock, or spackling needs to be done. I got my log kit from Honest Abe Log Homes out of Moss, Tn. They were great to work with and made it easy for the do it yourselfer. They had a one day school to learn how to use the construction manual and covered the process of building the home yourself. The kits are sold through dealers around the country and those dealers may do contracting or have a list of approved contractors to do it all the way to a turn key. We considered the costs when we were planning the house and had a couple of options in order to stay in our budget.
1. Buy a turn key home and go with inexpensive cabinets and fixtures inside.
2. Contract part of the construction and finish it ourselves to get middle of the road cabinets and fixtures.
Or 3. Do as much as possible ourselves, and go high end with all of the cabinets, fixtures, and flooring.
We had a home to live in, so time was not an issue for us. Contracting it all would have us in the home sooner, but we didn't think that we would have been as happy with the end result, so we opted to go it on our own to save money and get the best cabinets and fixtures that we could. That allowed us to get 100% real wood cabinets and frames, tile floors in the laundry and baths, laminate flooring through the rest, High end lighting fixtures, a stone wall in the Greatroom and Master Bedroom, underfloor heating (which I LOVE and BTW which we will recover in energy savings)
Our final cost for the home (not counting land) is looking to be right at $70 /sq.ft., by doing almost all of the work ourselves. That is extremely low for what we are getting. If we had contracted it all and went with the same materials that we have used, the cost would have been close to double. $3 /sq.ft was to have the logs hand hewn inside and outside. We could have saved $5000 if we had gone with milled logs. It would look really nice, but the look just would not have been the same as what we were wanting.
Personally, I have no regrets for our decision. We planned this over a 4 year period and considered everything that we could beforehand, so I really doubt that we will be dissatisfied in a few years and want to sell. We talked at length about our likes and dislikes and what we would love to have in our dream home. We made almost all of the decisions before construction started, so the only problem we have had, is finding the time to devote to building our dream home. It has gone slower than we had expected, but it has been well worth it.

Not yet. I am finishing the trim where the ceiling meets the logs and then I will I clean it for spraying the polyurethane. Once that is done, then I will get the sheetrock up. Once that dust generator is done, then I will do the stone. If I do it now, I will have to figure a way to cover it all or have to clean all of the sheetrock dust out of the nooks and crannies! I am getting anxious to get the stone up though. I hope it will look as good as it does in my head! LOL

I know from experience about cleaning dust from logs...when the folks did the renovation on the kitchen of their log house, it was a several weekend job to clean all the dust from the "ledges"

Create a draft with a fan to suck the dust outside.  That's what I do when I work on a room.  I set a cheap box fan in a window, plug up the rest of the opening with plastic, then turn on the fan.  I also close and tape up the doorways and closets as best I can.  I leave it that way until I am done with the clean-up.  My shop vac gets a workout sucking up dust, but it is far better than using a broom.

Great idea, my friend. That is what I will do.

Careful sucking up too much sanding dust from drywall compound.

Tends to clog shop vac filters very fast.

If I use them, I buy a couple of extra filters so I can wash and dry them on a rotational basis.

Maybe someone else knows of a better system or shop vac.

My shop vac has bags as well as filters, so it should work out OK. I don't have alot of sanding to do on the walls, because I am going to make it a textured surface, then knock it down while it is still workable, to give it a rustic look. So there shouldn't be alot of sheetrock sanding to be done (I hope!). Most of my sanding is on the ceiling getting the finish on the wood ready for sealing.

I understand what you mean by making it look rustic...

But reminds me of a story of a woman that I know, who was going through menopause. She asked her husband (a very ill tempered man - who was having difficulty with her extreme mood swings anyway) to redo her bathroom. Which he did. Complete to her specifications. She chose everything and told  him exactly what she wanted. She monitored the progress and commented while he worked and he changed a couple things during the process at her request. One day she got mad. Who knows why and she took it out on the bathroom. She took a claw hammer to the fixtures and wall and basically destroyed everything. He had just finished it maybe the week before. She says that she did it because he did it all wrong. I saw pictures and it was looking VERY rustic. Outhouse rustic. LOL

OMG I can't even imagine treating someone like that. Needless to say, they're divorced.

When we built the house last winter, one of my jobs was to sand all the ceilings and the walls (they were all drywall).

Thankfully, the finish seams were fairly smooth, so the dust was minimal.

Even so, and even with a mask, it was no fun. I don't envy the sanding at all. Dust everywhere. Took a thirty minute shower to get it out of my ears, etc.

Good idea w/ the texturizing. We "stomped" the ceilings, with the exception of a "sunburst" I put on the ceiling in the living room where the fan/light was put.

Mine also has a paper filter over the foam filter.  I usually have to shut if off and bump the vac to get the excess dust to fall off the paper.  Then it's back to vaccuuming.  Make sure you take it outside to empty, and stand up wind, or you will have a mess.

We had a productive week last week. We had a neighbor come and help me two evenings last week and we got more than 3/4 of the Master Bedroom ceiling finished. We don't have much more to go before the ceiling in the house is complete. I am working on a way to make an access into the attic that won't be too noticable. I have a good idea of how to do it. That is my next step this week after work, as well as working on completion of the ceilings.
We actually got to break out the spray gun Saturday! We sprayed half of the interior logs with polyurethane! The LRHG was worried about the shine after we sprayed them, but I knew that it would flatten out after drying. She looked mighty purty in her respirator! :smitten: We used a satin finish polyurethane, so it would look better on the hand hewn logs. It did flatten out after drying and turned out great! It made the hand hewning more prominent. The color of the logs is very rich now, and just what we had hoped for. We will try to get some pics this week. I didn't want to spray the ceiling in the great room, sewing room, and front bedroom yet, because it is all one large ceiling and I didn't have enough time to complete the entire ceiling. I was concerned of possibly having a noticable line if I was to have to stop short of covering the entire ceiling. I hope to spray the ceiling this coming Saturday, as long as nothing else comes up. It seems we have a couple more Saturdays to give up in the coming month. We are just going to keep plugging away when we can, and not worry about any timetables. Our progess has been slowed several times because of having to give up weekends for other things, but we understand and will just appreciate the house that much more when we finally can make the move into it.

We had a very productive day today! The ceiling tongue and groove is now complete. We spent the day spraying polyurethane. We now have all of the logs coated except for the Living room front wall, and still have to do the ceiling in the Living area and front bedroom. The rest is now covered. It has given the wood a rich tone and has very little sheen since we used a satin finish. I have sprayed 7.5 gallons so far, and will used around 3 more gallons to finish the job. Once that is done, we will be able to start on the sheetrock. I will try to get some pics tomorrow.

I have to say that this has been a real labor of love for Magistrate and Little red Haired Girl....We have seen the house and the inside, they have very painstakingly chosen every light fixtureand it was so nice to see the joy that they were deriving from this effort.  Part of it, I believe, is that it is a joint effort.  The love these two share is very evident.  We enjoyed the evening we spent with them.  And the house is going to be great!

Sorry MsMojo. I have been really busy lately. Unfortunately it hasn't been so much on the house. I have taken some pics, but haven't got them loaded up to be seen yet. As soon as I can, I will post them. I have lost the last two weekends to other needs, and will be loosing this coming weekend as well. I am making progress, but it has been pretty slow lately. It is good to see you and I think everyone can relate to being busy. Seems like every season change brings on initial rushes of "stuff". If that makes sense. I can't wait to see the pictures. Did you see that PH and Daisy are having houses built? PH posted his blueprints and a picture of the model. I'm envious of all of you. LOL Anyway, tell LRHG hello.

Hi Sunny! It has been a really interesting summer. We have had so many things happen that has taken time away from building on the house. YES, we still are NOT in it! I have had several things come up over the summer that has interfered with my time to work on the house. Some of it has been good, but some hasn't been as good. I will really try to get some pics up as soon as I can, but you will see that progress has not been that good. I had two straight months where I never even got to step inside the house! The LRHG has been really patient and understanding and I appreciate her Love and support through all of the delays.

I have missed you all and hope to get a little more time to say hi more often. I hope that you all had a great summer! God Bless you all, my friends!

Update on the house:

We have finally moved into our new home! It is still not completed, but is in a condition to allow us to live in it comfortably. The trailer had reached it's "expiration date and needed either to be abandoned as a home or to do some major repairs to it. We opted to spend the money on the new house, instead of spending on a trailer that will be gone in about a year.
All that is needed to finish our home is construction of the entire Master Bathroom, finishing the sewing room (paint and flooring), and lots of trim.

Do you realize this thread started in September of '06? Can you believe it's been that long? I'm so happy to hear that you're in the new house and even though I'm sure what's left is a lot of work...you're definitely in the home stretch now.
