I understand what you mean by making it look rustic...

But reminds me of a story of a woman that I know, who was going through menopause. She asked her husband (a very ill tempered man - who was having difficulty with her extreme mood swings anyway) to redo her bathroom. Which he did. Complete to her specifications. She chose everything and told  him exactly what she wanted. She monitored the progress and commented while he worked and he changed a couple things during the process at her request. One day she got mad. Who knows why and she took it out on the bathroom. She took a claw hammer to the fixtures and wall and basically destroyed everything. He had just finished it maybe the week before. She says that she did it because he did it all wrong. I saw pictures and it was looking VERY rustic. Outhouse rustic. LOL

OMG I can't even imagine treating someone like that. Needless to say, they're divorced.

When we built the house last winter, one of my jobs was to sand all the ceilings and the walls (they were all drywall).

Thankfully, the finish seams were fairly smooth, so the dust was minimal.

Even so, and even with a mask, it was no fun. I don't envy the sanding at all. Dust everywhere. Took a thirty minute shower to get it out of my ears, etc.

Good idea w/ the texturizing. We "stomped" the ceilings, with the exception of a "sunburst" I put on the ceiling in the living room where the fan/light was put.

Careful sucking up too much sanding dust from drywall compound.

Tends to clog shop vac filters very fast.

If I use them, I buy a couple of extra filters so I can wash and dry them on a rotational basis.

Maybe someone else knows of a better system or shop vac.

Mine also has a paper filter over the foam filter.  I usually have to shut if off and bump the vac to get the excess dust to fall off the paper.  Then it's back to vaccuuming.  Make sure you take it outside to empty, and stand up wind, or you will have a mess.

We had a productive week last week. We had a neighbor come and help me two evenings last week and we got more than 3/4 of the Master Bedroom ceiling finished. We don't have much more to go before the ceiling in the house is complete. I am working on a way to make an access into the attic that won't be too noticable. I have a good idea of how to do it. That is my next step this week after work, as well as working on completion of the ceilings.
We actually got to break out the spray gun Saturday! We sprayed half of the interior logs with polyurethane! The LRHG was worried about the shine after we sprayed them, but I knew that it would flatten out after drying. She looked mighty purty in her respirator! :smitten: We used a satin finish polyurethane, so it would look better on the hand hewn logs. It did flatten out after drying and turned out great! It made the hand hewning more prominent. The color of the logs is very rich now, and just what we had hoped for. We will try to get some pics this week. I didn't want to spray the ceiling in the great room, sewing room, and front bedroom yet, because it is all one large ceiling and I didn't have enough time to complete the entire ceiling. I was concerned of possibly having a noticable line if I was to have to stop short of covering the entire ceiling. I hope to spray the ceiling this coming Saturday, as long as nothing else comes up. It seems we have a couple more Saturdays to give up in the coming month. We are just going to keep plugging away when we can, and not worry about any timetables. Our progess has been slowed several times because of having to give up weekends for other things, but we understand and will just appreciate the house that much more when we finally can make the move into it.

We had a very productive day today! The ceiling tongue and groove is now complete. We spent the day spraying polyurethane. We now have all of the logs coated except for the Living room front wall, and still have to do the ceiling in the Living area and front bedroom. The rest is now covered. It has given the wood a rich tone and has very little sheen since we used a satin finish. I have sprayed 7.5 gallons so far, and will used around 3 more gallons to finish the job. Once that is done, we will be able to start on the sheetrock. I will try to get some pics tomorrow.

I was just going to ask where the pics are.   ;D

I have to say that this has been a real labor of love for Magistrate and Little red Haired Girl....We have seen the house and the inside, they have very painstakingly chosen every light fixtureand it was so nice to see the joy that they were deriving from this effort.  Part of it, I believe, is that it is a joint effort.  The love these two share is very evident.  We enjoyed the evening we spent with them.  And the house is going to be great!

Sorry MsMojo. I have been really busy lately. Unfortunately it hasn't been so much on the house. I have taken some pics, but haven't got them loaded up to be seen yet. As soon as I can, I will post them. I have lost the last two weekends to other needs, and will be loosing this coming weekend as well. I am making progress, but it has been pretty slow lately. Have a great weekend!
