Will definitely do that when I get a day off which is not in the foreseeable future.  Not even the holidays. Including Christmas. :( But I do plan on putting for a couple vacation days after the New Year.

Well, the floors are warm already... and the fire in the fireplace is charming and warm and wonderfu!
You are all welcome to come over and take off your shoes and warm your tootsies and "chew the fat" with us.
We worked together for a while in the new house today, and then about 7:30 i remembered that i had not done the cooking for tomorrow... so have just finished getting goods together for tomorrow....
and just want to take a minute to wish all our zone friends a

VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Here is the latest update on the house for everyone:

I had some friends from church come over and we worked on the ceiling today. We got just over 15 full rows of boards up today. It was very good progress. We did bring the rest of my T&G into the house so that it would stay dry and acclimate to the house temperature and humidity before we start nailing it up. It does look like I will have enough to do the rest of the ceiling plus. That is a good thing! Here are a few pics of the ceiling after we finished for the day:

You can see that we have the wall covered with sheathing now, so when I get the ceiling completed and sealed, and the drywall up, I can start placing stone on that wall. The face of each shelf extension will be covered with cedar to give some definition to each of the extensions. I think it will be a nice contrast to break up all of the stone that will be on that wall.
Something to Consider! God Bless!

That's beautiful Magistrate and your ceilings look a lot higher than they did before you finished them. That's really pretty.

Wow! cant wait to see pictures once the stone is up...thats going to be really amazing!

We got the Greatroom and Front bedroom ceiling done! Now I can sand and prep the ceiling for polyurethane! Here's what it looks like now.

And here is the latest outside pic. I've got the side door in now. It is only primed to protect the wood. It's too cold to paint now, so I am gonna wait until spring to paint the trim on the doors.

Slow and steady wins the race I guess! LOL I'm with you Gryphon, I can't wait to see it with the stacked stone on the wall!

It's absolutely beautiful, Magistrate!!!!

This may sound funny...but I LOVE the shingles. Are those architectural shingles? Do they have green in them?!?

Thanks for the updates!!!

Hi Sunny. Yes they are architectural shingles and they are green. I chose a 40 year shingle because it had more character than the standard 30 year shingle. I was told by many people that I needed to put a metal roof on the house. I did consider that, but I decided that I would not go with metal. The reason was that I wanted a log home with a roof on it, instead of a metal roof with a log home under it. I think a metal roof would have taken away from the character of the hand hewn logs. Here is a pic that shows the shingles a little better.

Thanks Henry. It is right at 1600 sq. ft not counting the 2 lofts. The lofts will be used to display the LRHG's baskets on the edges and for storage of seasonal items back out of sight. In my pics I posted on the 6th, the second pic down in the Greatroom looking into the loft above the main bath, you can see two columns that extend into the ceiling. Those will be covered with a hand hewn log siding and it will appear to be two large hand hewn columns once facing them is completed. In between the two columns up in the loft, the LRHG has an old treddle style sewing machine that will be displayed there with one of her Grandmother's quilts draped over the sewing machine. It should look really good.

So tell me Magistrate, all things being equal, did the log home cost more or less than a conventional framed house?

The wife is all wound up about wanting a log cabin again.  I'd just like to know if it is even a possibility.  I'm a "cut it off twice and it's still too short" kind of carpenter, so it would have to be mostly a turnkey deal for me.  Although I can do plumbing and electrical fine.

I found a cute log cabin that we wanted to rent while the new house is being built. Problem is, its in a very high growth area and the land it's sitting on has been zoned commercial, and since they started building the newest big mall project in Hamilton County, its in a terrible location and probably will be torn down. :(

My parents bought a log house in a similar situation 20 years ago and moved it...in situations like that, sometimes you can get the house for free--the owners are glad to not pay for demo.
