Title: Hobby Lobby Et AL - Decision
Post by: Locutus on June 29, 2014, 06:20:04 PM
Any predictions on the SCOTUS ruling on Burwell v. Hobby Lobby?  The SCOTUS has already basically declared the corporations have the same free speech rights as individuals in the Citizen's United ruling.  Will they now grant religious rights to corporations as well?

In my opinion, it needs to be left to each state to decide what they want.

No, each state should not be left to decide what is and is not constitutional.

"Several states have introduced various resolutions and legislation in protest to federal actions. Despite this, the Supreme Court has explicitly rejected the idea that the states can nullify federal law. In Cooper v. Aaron (1958), the Supreme Court of the United States held that federal law prevails over state law due to the operation of the Supremacy Clause, and that federal law "can neither be nullified openly and directly by state legislators or state executive or judicial officers nor nullified indirectly by them through evasive schemes . . ." Thus, state laws purporting to nullify federal statutes or to exempt states and their citizens from federal statutes have only symbolic impact."

Marriage in the United States is the legal recognition of certain relationships - normally, monogamous pairings committing for life - that is regulated by individual States.

So now corporations primarily owned by 5 or less individuals (51% or more of the stock) can dictate what is or is not within their PERSONAL religious beliefs and impose them upon all employees of a company they own that majority stock within?

I wonder how that is going to play with those conservative ass-hats when Sharia Law is imposed upon the employees within a US company that is majority owned by extremists?  :roll eyes:

If you bother to check into it further you will find it is only 4 out of 20 which will not be covered and there are 16 more forms of birth control that will remain available to them.  It is not "all" forms of birth control only the ones that destroy an already fertilized egg the Hobby Lobby owners object to.

QuoteHobby Lobby case: What birth control is affected?
Jayne O'Donnell, USA TODAY 6:21 p.m. EDT June 30, 2014

The Supreme Court decision in the Hobby Lobby case doesn't currently affect the birth control methods that are most commonly used. But Planned Parenthood Federation of America spokeswoman Justine Sessions says the decision "opens the door for other corporations to be able to opt out of providing any form of birth control."

It doesn't affect:

• Most birth control pills

• Condoms

• Sponges

• Sterilization

It does affect:

• Plan B "morning-after pill"

• Ella "morning-after pill"

• Hormonal and copper intrauterine devices (IUDs)

The companies in the case and their supporters object to IUDs and morning-after pills, saying they cause abortions by blocking a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus. Groups that lobby for reproductive rights contend the drugs and devices prevent fertilization from occurring, which can lead to unwanted pregnancies and surgical abortions.

Apples and oranges dude.

This ruling only applies to family owned business and closely-held corporations....If Muslims own a closely-held corporation, then they should have some sort of say on what or government tries to force them to do, if it goes directly against their beliefs.  Nobody forces anyone to work at these business' as long as people know up front before they are hired.

Hobby Lobby has only objected to providing four of the 20 required contraceptives by Obamacare.........this is NOT an assault on women by any , WAY, SHAPE or FORM........it is pure propaganda at its finest.

So what about the dissenting opinions of the very same court?

And I quote Ginsberg  and those members agreeing with her:

. . ."RFRA speaks of "a person's exercise of religion." 42 U. S. C. §2000bb–1(a) (emphasis added). See also §§2000bb–2(4), 2000cc–5(7)(a).12 Whether
a corporation qualifies as a "person" capable of exercis- ing religion is an inquiry one cannot answer without refer- ence to the "full body" of pre-Smith "free-exercise caselaw." Gilardi, 733 F. 3d, at 1212. There is in that case law no support for the notion that free exercise rights pertain to for-profit corporations.
Until this litigation, no decision of this Court recognized a for-profit corporation's qualification for a religious ex- emption from a generally applicable law, whether under the Free Exercise Clause or RFRA.13 The absence of such precedent is just what one would expect, for the exercise of religion is characteristic of natural persons, not artificial legal entities. As Chief Justice Marshall observed nearly two centuries ago, a corporation is "an artificial being, invisible, intangible, and existing only in contemplation of law." Trustees of Dartmouth College v. Woodward, 4 Wheat. 518, 636 (1819). Corporations, Justice Stevens more recently reminded, "have no consciences, no beliefs, no feelings, no thoughts, no desires." Citizens United v. Federal Election Comm'n, 558 U. S. 310, 466 (2010).". .

. . ."The First Amendment's free exercise protections, theCourt has indeed recognized, shelter churches and other nonprofit religion-based organizations.14 "For many indi- viduals, religious activity derives meaning in large meas- ure from participation in a larger religious community," and "furtherance of the autonomy of religious organiza- tions often furthers individual religious freedom as well." Corporation of Presiding Bishop of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints v. Amos, 483 U. S. 327, 342 (1987) (Brennan, J., concurring in judgment). The Court's "spe- cial solicitude to the rights of religious organizations," Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC, 565 U. S. ___, ___ (2012) (slip op., at 14), how- ever, is just that. No such solicitude is traditional for com- mercial organizations.15 Indeed, until today, religious exemptions had never been extended to any entity operat- ing in "the commercial, profit-making world." Amos, 483 U. S., at 337.16
The reason why is hardly obscure. Religious organiza- tions exist to foster the interests of persons subscribing to the same religious faith. Not so of for-profit corporations. Workers who sustain the operations of those corporations commonly are not drawn from one religious community. Indeed, by law, no religion-based criterion can restrict the work force of for-profit corporations. See 42 U. S. C. §§2000e(b), 2000e–1(a), 2000e–2(a); cf. Trans World Air lines, Inc. v. Hardison, 432 U. S. 63, 80–81 (1977) (Title VII requires reasonable accommodation of an employee's religious exercise, but such accommodation must not come "at the expense of other[ employees]"). The distinction between a community made up of believers in the same religion and one embracing persons of diverse beliefs, clear as it is, constantly escapes the Court's attention.17 One can only wonder why the Court shuts this key difference from sight.. . ."

Why is this opinion wrong? Because it, along with several others who supported it's author, and whom are also serving members of the court, is not in line with an obscured vision shared by the conservative swayed and leaning sector of the very same court?

This decision is nothing more than the same shite spewed out by this very same court when it granted constitutional rights to these very same corporate entities. That was wrong, and it clearly was the first step in enabling the very legal action set before the court this week; of which I predict with a high level of certainty, will be only step two in a long a sustained march upon the constitutional rights afforded individual citizens of this nation as outline within the very same constitution this court has been using for ass wipe for a number of years now.

In reading the full decision I am now fully certain that when, not if, a corporation owned by a small number of extremist muslims begins imposing upon its employees Sharia  Law, (Something you ultra conservative zealots have been crying wolf about for the last 6 years and laying at the POTUS's feet), this very same court will now be forced, based upon the very precedent this decision handed down today sets, to uphold it.

What will you say then? Will you cry to the heavens in a vain attempt to have your false-idol sky daddy send a barrage of lightening and thunder down upon the infidels? Who will you blame this on then?

And if you'd care to read the entire decision, including the dissenting one(S), you'll find within said decision facts fully supporting what I have been saying on here for years; the ACA that was passed is NOT the one presented by the Obama Administration; and in fact many of the very components of it that you have been wanting to crucify the POTUS over were, in fact, injected into the bill by members of congress.

Hobby Lobby pays above min wage.  The women are getting the same coverage as far as birth control as they were getting before.  The wooosh happens, in this case, to be over your head not mine.

So how about the fact that Catholicism forbids birth control in any way shape or form? Nothing save for the withdrawal method is acceptable to the Catholic faith surrounding birth control.

So now when a predominately held corporation owned by those claiming to be of a strict catholic faith, wants to eliminate all forms of birth control from the healthcare plans of its employees, it now has legal precedent to do so without fear of any legal ramifications what-so-ever?

Yep.

And then, let us consider the fact that increasingly, corporations are moving toward those high deductible plans that ensure that the first 4-8k of medical expenses each and every year come directly out of the pockets of their employees, without the corporation incurring one red cent in expenditures. Additionally, the costs for coverage are increasingly seeing the burden shifted to the employees themselves; with many incurring a monthly premium of 600 dollars a month or more just for the so called "coverage" the insurance provides.

And yet, these corporations feel entitled to their "religiosity" exemptions despite the fact it imposes those religious claims upon each and every employee of the corporations? Tripe, pure and simple. Nothing more than a legal maneuver designed to limit their financial liabilities at a cost to the quality of the lives of their employees; all the while fattening up an already healthy bottom line, while their employees sink into the pit of poverty that widens each and every day.

If a Catholic family owns their own business, and decides to hire outside help, they should NOT, repeat NOT be demanded by law to provide pills or devices that may cause the death of a human embryo.  That is directly against their religious beliefs.  The government cannot FORCE them to go against their religious beliefs, they are NOT shoving down their beliefs down anybodies throats, they just don't want to pay or provide something that those people can provide for themselves if they choose to...........

This is why the pilgrims moved over here....to escape tyranny.  It is another form of tyranny, imo.

For the LIFE of me, why is this so hard for you guys to see?  To say that a woman's rights are being violated is utter BULLSHIT.

What ever happened to being responsible for one's own self?  How is that government MUST supply this to EVERYONE in the first place?

Catholicism forbids ANY form of birth control; even condoms and birth control pills. Use of birth control means one risks excommunication from the church. Period.  When they attempt the same thing Hobby Lobby did, it will mean the explicit denial of birth control coverage for all employees. It WILL happen.

You and "me" continue to focus on the emotional turmoil the propagandists WANT you focused upon, which blinds you to the bigger picture here and the reality of what that SCOTUS decision means to our nation as a whole; long term. The fact is birth control includes a LOT more than those 3-4 methods Hobby Lobby etc. object to. The mainstream attempts to defang the ramifications by focusing upon only those 3-4 methods, but the reality is that there are versions of Christianity that object to ALL birth control save for pulling out at the moment of truth during intercourse.

Part of that "Tyranny" you quote included the heavy handed Protestant Reformation Act, that attempted to create ONE religion that all were forced to comply with. This is the exact same thing this decision has placed us onto the path toward, and is the reason for the explicit requirement of the separation of church and state.

By the terms of our founding documents, if this government endorses any aspect of one religion, it must also endorse equally those of all others.

Why is it that so many do not see this? Have the 10-13 generations that have passed since religion last attempted to impose itself upon our government(s) served to eradicate the dangers and persecutions that transpired? Or perhaps it is truly just the fact that because the passage of time eliminates the memories of the trials and tribulations civilization and societies have endured; and thusly we see the root cause for the phrase, "history repeats itself"?

And in reply to your last question, how quickly everyone forgets the inequality in the level of health care that insurers not so long ago imposed upon women of this nation. It wasn't all that long ago that women were forced into higher premium, higher deductible health plans, compared to men, that made it fiscally impossible for them to get even the basic testing and services necessary to ensure their personal health. Birth control included.

I'm not making this stuff up. Do some research before you jump aboard that train hell-bent for a destination that makes socialism look like Romper Room.

Just shy of 200 years ago a serving justice of the SCOTUS defined corporations as "an artificial being, invisible, intangible, and existing only in contemplation of law." That was Chief Justice Marshall. And for almost 200 years that decision served as the precedent that ensured the security of our constitutional rights from the imposition of corporate Amerika, (And religion); but in one fell swoop just a few years ago, a modern day SCOTUS threw that decision into the toilet and brought us to a second decision yesterday that does the very same thing.

Corporations are not persons, and persons possess constitutionally guaranteed individual rights and protections. Corporations exist within the law, not life itself. They are not individuals and they most certainly are not persons.

There are mom and pop businesses that are incorporated for reasons like HH mentioned.  Corporations, including small businesses, are owned by people.  A corporation, large or small, is not an entity unto itself.  Without an owner it could not exist since the owner is the one who created it.

Okay, I have been reading everyone's comments on this. Let me say that I am Protestant who converted to Catholicism. Catholics do use birth control, they just don't go around announcing it to the world. I know I did and so have other Catholic females. As far as Mexicans and South American's being Catholic, that is true but there coming to America has nothing to do with George Bush, Bill Clinton, the last Bush or Obama. They come to America just like people did 100's of years ago for freedom and to make a better life. Go to any farms and you will find Mexicans working on it-why, because American's are too damn lazy to work on the farms or think they are too good to do that. My brother over saw some Mexicans who had come to Ky. to work on one of the farms and he said they worked harder than Americans ever did. Now before someone mentions that we probably hired them on our farm, no, my father never did because our farm wasn't big enough for that and he had my brothers, my mother, himself and I to do the work along with some other farmers he worked with. Personally, I don't think any company or government needs to be telling people what health care they should and shouldn't have. That should be left up to the individual. I am not for abortion and it has nothing to do with me being Protestant, Catholic or just being a stay home person who doesn't go to church. I just think that we have tons of people who would gladly adopt a child.

I never said they do not use it. What I said that if the church knew it, they would excommunicate you. If one of the parishioners knows it, and decides they don't like you for some reason, they could tell the parish priests about it, and they could throw you out and ban you from any catholic church; worldwide.

I also converted at one time. If you are part of a Roman Catholic Parish you will be excommunicated from the church if they find out you are using birth control. There is no reason acceptable to the church for using it.

People cannot "double dip" either. They maintain their individual constitutional rights/protections as individuals.

Moreover, just what qualifies you to over-rule a precedent setting ruling of the SCOTUS? Justice Marshall said that corporations are "an artificial being, invisible, intangible, and existing only in contemplation of law."

That makes them pretend.

The assumption everyone makes is that they are good, but the reality is they are only good because the law requires them to be. Which is exactly why corporations will use the recent SCOTUS decision as a "loophole" in the law, to be used as a lever to increase their bottom line and oppress / persecute their own employees in the name of a personal belief system that in reality only has meaning if they are caught acting against it within their PERSONAL lives.

People are attempting to create a melding of personal and professional morality that does not, and cannot exist.

If the corporation I work for has a policy against wearing fur, then I am opening myself up for potential disciplinary action by making a personal choice to wear it.

If my personal religion states I must wear fur at all times, I will still be fired for it and there will be nothing I can do about it; especially within an at will or right to work state. I will be fired for it.

The reality is, these very same corporations that the SCOTUS has granted constitutional rights to, are nothing more than legal "individuals" and NOT persons. Only a person can wield constitutional rights and protections. (The law has been very clear on this in the past, and yet as of the last few years the sitting SCOTUS somehow feels empowered to totally ignore this).

Moreover, should a corporation be found to be violating your constitutional rights / protections, you have absolutely zero legal recourse against them what-so-ever within a right to work or at will state. None. Nada. Zero.

Not so the other way around now. Violation of a constitutional "right" or "protection" of one of these faceless and soulless corporations as an individual, and you will be fired, and potentially taken to court and charged.

Again, if you think I am making this stuff up do yourself a favor and make an appointment for a consultation with an attorney that specializes in this type of law. S/he will tell you exactly the same things I am. Go ahead and do it. The initial consultation is free so all it will cost you is a little of your time and some gas to get to the office. You will find out I am not making this up. I spoke to several of them myself in the past, in this state and two others, and they ALL told me the very same thing.

  I believe in evolution, but strongly resist the idea that we're solely the product of biology and evolution. So, let me propose something else and ask a few questions:

One theory of reincarnation is that the body is like a house, empty until a soul enters and turns on the lights. And, when the body dies, the soul leaves and turns off the lights.

So, assuming a body has a soul,

When does that soul enter the body?  At conception? At birth?

We have laws in place, we just don't use them all the time do we.... like our boarder patrol cannot do their jobs effectively because, our FED GOV is playing politics instead of letting the states enforce the laws they have in place to keep their people safe.

I think BIG GOV is more of a danger than BIG BUSINESS.

With no interference, more than 2/3 of all fertilized eggs fail to result in a live birth.

His remark requires thought. If you consider what a fetus is medically/scientifically, he's not wrong.

I really don't understand why conservatives are ao happy about this and why religion would deny a woman contraceptives IF they insist they're anti-choice when it comes to abortion. I can't imagine having such conflicting beliefs and being happy.

There are still 16 methods available to them including birth control pills.

Sandy, I think he is wrong. A cancer will never grow and be able to live outside of a host, a fetus will. That, IMO, makes the difference. I have already stated my views on abortion,so I won't get into that again. I think some people are missing the point HL is making. They don't think the four types of "contraception" they objected to are preventing conception, but are in fact abortions which they object to.

I think you're missing the bigger point about the can of worms this opens up when other religions impose their views on their employees which is now sanctioned by the Supreme Court.

Then why do they invest in the selfsame companies that make these forms of contraception that they find objectionable to provide to their employees based on 'religious' grounds?

I think HL was being extremely reasonably and the SCOTUS actually used common sense, which has been missing from our law makers.

For the life of me, I cannot see ANYONE can object to what happened in this case.....it is clearly cut and dry.  Justice has prevailed.

To answer that question I would have to know how their investment plan works. If it is handled by a firm and HL doesn't pick the individual companies that their money is invested in then they may not have known which companies their plan owned stock in or what they produced. Our investment plan went into a low/moderate risk fund that had stock in multiple companies that changed frequently.

You are right, a large proportion of fertilized eggs do not result in a pregnancy, but some people believe life begins at conception - not implantation and to them the four methods constitute abortion or murder.

No, I am not missing the point, I can see how this can become a slippery slope. However, government already limits how private business can and cannot run their business. I would not be surprised to see the no shirt no shoes no service signs gone soon. :) In my statements before this I was trying to make the point that HL was not in fact trying to deny birth control to their female employees as so many articles and persons were trying to imply. It is a family owned company and seems to follow their convictions (not being open on Sundays). I haven't heard anything about making their employees attend religious services or anything like that.

There are many plans and funds available who base their investment decisions on religious principles and would therefore not include investments in such companies.  That they willingly choose to ignore those options only underscores their hypocrisy.

If they are both individuals why do they both not reside on death row?

First of all, if these people are, as you claim, international terrorists, why haven't they been charged?  Secondly, Christians have killed far more people throughout history than Muslims ever thought about.  Why aren't you considered a terrorist, especially when your beliefs so closely align with theirs?

If they want to work, there are only those kinds of places to work at. . . I am not a fan of Dick Morris, but this editorial by him says it all, very, very well....

The worst day in Barack Obama's life may have been the day he won a second term. Increasingly, he is the captive of events his own policies have set in motion that are now out of control and coming back to haunt him. The last two and a half years of his second term seem fated to be the worst ending to a presidency since those of Johnson and Nixon, dominated by Vietnam protests and Watergate, respectively.

The process will cook his legacy and destroy his party's chances to keep the presidency.

Immigration: It is about to become the conventional wisdom — in this case, correct — that Obama's manipulation of the deportation system has triggered the tidal wave of unaccompanied children coming across the southern border. Even as his policies lead to a massive unintended consequence, he seems determined to double down and ratchet deportations back further.

One can predict that stories of crimes by illegal immigrants, of disease borne here by the immigrants and the dislocations in communities across the land will dominate the news for years. It will be like the Cuban Mariel boatlift of 1980, when Fidel Castro emptied his prisons and mental hospitals and shipped their inhabitants here. Ironically, the backlash helped defeat then-Gov. Bill Clinton's bid for reelection in Arkansas that same year.

ObamaCare: The failure to anticipate the number of older and sicker people to enter the healthcare pool has set the stage for double-digit premium increases as 2014 draws toward a close. And the limits on grandfathered small group policies will cause wholesale cancellations, such as those that bedeviled Obama in 2013. Larger firms will need to increase employee contributions, replace full-time workers with part-timers and raise deductibles. All the bad news postponed from 2013 and 2014 will hit the fan in 2015.

Middle East: Obama's hasty and total withdrawal from Iraq is already backfiring as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) sweeps through the nation, destroying the hapless and disorganized forces of the government. With the formation of a Sunni caliphate more likely than not, the president will have to answer for a new wave of terrorism on his watch.

IRS: With the scandal of the Internal Revenue Service targeting of Tea Party groups now reaching the U.S. District Court, it enters a new era. Before the Congressional Oversight Committee, administration witnesses could resort to delaying tactics of "my dog ate it" excuses in answer to document subpoenas. But no more. While Congress cannot enforce its contempt citations, a District Court judge can. He can demand that techies search for missing emails, subpoena those who received them and force document production on penalty of incarceration with no Justice Department intermediary to shield Obama administration officials.

We are about to be treated to a Nixonesque drama, wherein the court, impelled by lawyers for the Tea Party — the redoubtable Cleta Mitchell — forces the IRS to cough up what it knows.

And, with the Nixon case providing a precedent, impeachment could be in the offing. Ken Starr sought impeachment over what many did not consider to be a high crime or misdemeanor. But nobody can doubt that using the IRS to punish political opponents qualifies.

Benghazi:
Now that the fig leaf of blaming the 2012 attack in Libya on an Internet video has been stripped away by the Justice Department indictment of Ahmed Abu Khattala — stating that he planned the attack for months — Obama must face the full force of Congressman Trey Gowdy's (R-S.C.) investigation. One is inclined to believe author Ed Klein's account in his book Blood Feud, that the use of the video to cover up a terror attack was triggered by the president himself in a 10 p.m. phone call to Hillary Clinton the night of the attack.

And, if all this were not enough, are we riding the crest of the stock market bubble, and will it come crashing down as many predict?

Yeah, it IS for many of the reason I am suggesting....

No, the country is doomed because we let racist illiterates (blacks and whites) vote and breed like flies.  Makes absolutely no difference to me though because neither my girlfriend nor myself has brought any children into the world so when we're gone, we leave no one behind to deal with the problems created by others.  The offspring of those most directly responsible for over populating and trashing this planet and for supporting the downward spiral that is the redistribution of wealth to the already rich will pay for the sins of their fathers.  The extremes of climate, hunger, pestilence, pollution, disease, the wars that will eventually be fought for access to clean water and the eventual devolution of society into chaos will be the birthright their ignorant and short-sighted parents earned for them.  There will be justice and it will be harsh.

There are still 16 methods available to them including birth control pills.

Your point? Maybe those methods aren't right for someone for whatever reason? Medically or personal choice? What gives the company the right to deny the choice of contraception?

If someone claims to be anti-choice when it comes to abortion, then logically they'd be pro contraception.

No one has ever accused the conservative stance on anything to be logical though.

He wasn't speaking to "eventually". He was speaking to the viability at the time the procedure is performed.

You don't have to restate your opinion on abortion, because it isn't relevant to anyone except you. As my opinions on abortion are only relevant to me. That's the way it's supposed to be.

They are NOT denying anyone, ANYTHING.......that person can STILL do WHATEVER they want, buy WHATEVER they want.........HL, just doesn't believe THEY should have to pay for it.

These people can work for another company that DOES cover those items.  HL pays pretty good wages for the type of work.........they need to take that into factor.

The last time I checked........we are STILL a free country.  We do not have to agree on issues.....The bottom line is, you don't like Hobby Lobby don't go there and buy from them.

But the SCOTUS got it 100% right...........if a Muslim family wants to do the same thing and employee people with understanding of what they are getting into when they take the job, then good for them.  If I don't like people praying to Allah while I work, I won't work there.

It is all pretty simple, it really is.

Dems control the Senate and the White House.............a little compromise is all it takes to get whatever a good leader would want.  The problem is he doesn't want to negotiate.

Enough of the Republicans say no BULLSHIT......MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, if they would NOT say no, if the WH was willing to negotiate.

It takes leadership.  We are lacking in leadership.

A good leader could go to the American public and convince them to pressure their reps into doing what they want done.

Clinton did it....
Reagan did it perfectly.

Quit looking for excuses when the obvious answer is RIGHT there in front of your faces.

There is a reason as to why Obama is dropping in the polls.  Lack of leadership.  PERIOD.

PH, I never had to show any ID to vote until a few years ago and I have voted in every election except for two primaries since 1967. We just walked in, told them your name, signed the paper and voted. There was always someone working at the polling station that knew whoever came in to vote. It isn't like that anymore. When we first registured to vote, we had to go to the courthouse and show ID, proof of age and proof of address but that was it.

Then why is it that it hasn't been a problem for years and  years, but since we have had a black president that the Republicans have came up with this, Bunky.

All over the country only the Republicans governors have created this phony problem.     It's to keep the black people from voting.      You know damn well this is the case and you and your fellow Republicans will do anything possible to gain power and control of the American people.   You people don't know what fair play and some day the American people will find out that the Republican party is on the same level as the Russian Communist Party and the Nazi party of Germany.  You people will do anything to win, lie, cheat, creep, and if given all power kill.    :behead: :trustme:
How, exactly, is having to show an ID keeping anyone from voting?

I was wondering the same thing.  Sounds like someone thinks that black people can't get ID.  I'm here to tell you...when I go to the BMV, there aren't only white people in there getting serviced.

Plus people need one to get food stamps, AFDC, WIC, a bank account, and numerous other things so I don't understand that the big problem is other than liberals making a big deal out of nothing to get people riled up.
