That monument that was closed is adjacent to the side walk and people just walk up to it and there is no one in attendance there.  It was just blocked off so people couldn't go up and read the names.  You walk off the sidewalk and go past it and back on to the sidewalk.  There was no reason to close it period.

LIE! This happened today at the very site you are talking about. There was a US Park Service Ranger there to turn people away, (and there was a crowd), and this republican conservative representative openly berates this woman and attempts to blame the US Park Service for the shutdown.

However, a 30 year vet of federal service, currently out of work thanks to ass hats like this rep., steps up to the plate and calls it as he, and 800,000 out of work federal workers see it; as well as millions of other US Citizens as well.

The National World War II Memorial was funded almost entirely by private contributions, as specified in Public Law 103-32. The campaign received more than $197 million in cash and pledges. Support came from hundreds of thousands of individual Americans, hundreds of corporations and foundations, veterans groups, dozens of civic, fraternal and professional organizations, states and one territory, and students in 1,200 schools across the country.

Donated and pledged funds were used to cover the total project costs of approximately $182 million. These costs include site selection and design, construction and sculpture, a National Park Service maintenance fee required by the Commemorative Works Act, groundbreaking and dedication ceremonies, fund raising, and the 11-year administrative costs of the project from its inception in 1993 through completion in 2004.

Remaining funds are held on deposit with the U.S. Treasury in a National WWII Memorial Trust Fund. The funds will be used by the American Battle Monuments Commission solely to benefit the World War II Memorial.

It usually has an annual operating plan and budget, from which the employees of the National Park Service are paid each week. The tea-billies have facilitated the shut down of all non-essential government services, programs, and departments.

What you are describing is a fund for the upkeep and protection of the monument within the property upon which the monument resides. That land is owned by the United States of America, and the responsibility for its protection and upkeep falls within the jurisdiction of the NPS; as it does for every single National Park and monument within the possession of the United States of America.

I hear the hatefulness spewed when I'm somewhere and see MSNBC or those lamestream channels.  Well, also it comes through my fb feed too but I don't delete the people who post it unlike some people who delete fb friends for having a difference of opinion.  That was generally speaking not aimed at anyone here since I have no idea about any of your pages if you even have them. Well, I guess a few of you have posted things from fb though.

The park withstood prior government shutdowns, noting in a news release that the farm will be closed to the public for the first time in 40 years.

"In previous budget dramas, the Farm has always been exempted since the NPS provides no staff or resources to operate the Farm," Eberly explained in an emailed statement.

On October 1, Chad Henderson successfully signed up for a health care exchange as part of the Affordable Care Act. He was instantly catapulted into the national spotlight as the White House and every single media outlet in America sought to both confirm his story and celebrate his success.

On October 1, Chad Henderson added this widget to his Facebook page announcing his decision to enroll in Obamacare.



Little did he know, his whole world was about to change.

"Something major happened to me today," Chad wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday. "I get off of work and find that I have 120 new notifications on my phone. Come to find out.... a few of President Obama's top advisers had shared my ObamaCare enrollment story with their Twitter followers and I had received much positive feedback along with some hateful feedback."

Long story short: they contacted me and my story will be published along with a video interview on the President's official advocacy website, Organizing for Action, and could possibly make it on the White House website.
Hmm... Odd that your average, apolitical youngster would understand the distinction between OFA and the White House. He does list "political activist" as one of his professional skills. No matter. I'm sure the media outlets that have taken an interest in his background will vet his background.

Henderson, a Tennessee resident, announced excitedly that he had been contacted by the Chattanooga Times Free Press and his unique story would soon be gracing the pages of his hometown paper.

"I accept these offers with honor knowing that I am helping the President make history by bringing out the facts on Obamacare!!" Henderson declared.

"AND THE GREAT NEWS KEEPS COMING IN!," Henderson announced two hours later. "other officials are still continuing to share my story including staff at CNN and a former adviser to President Bill Clinton!"

He also revealed that he had been contacted by the Huffington Post and that national web publication would soon trumpet his tale for the world.

"So freakin excited!!," Henderson disclosed.

Hang on, Chad. This rocket ship is just taking off...

I've now been interviewed by The Wall Street Journal, Washington Post,Chattanooga Times Free Press, The Huffington Post, Enroll America, and POLITICO!!
