the bottom line is, if this is such a great law bill, why did congress exempt themselves from it?
It is a bad law, that got passed, uh shoved down the throats....and I repeat, Nancy Pelosi, the SOH at the time...did not know what all was IN the Bill....so lets pass it to find out!!

For God's sake!  It was bad, and they KNEW IT!  Obama KNEW IT!...but, it was more important for him to PASS his Healthcare Bill, despite the polls suggesting most Americans were against it.

So, now...the republicans are doing EVERYTHING they can, within the law.....to stop it!

Feds Hold Seniors at Gunpoint During National Park Shutdown

"Gestapo tactics" used to detain tourists in locked hotel

Feds used "gestapo tactics" to treat senior citizens like terrorists during the shutdown of Yellowstone National park, placing them under armed guard in a locked hotel as panicked tourists thought they had been arrested, vowing never to return to America.

Image: National Park Service.

Pat Vaillancourt was part of a tour group of senior citizen visitors from Japan, Australia, Canada and the United States who were in Yellowstone national park when the government shutdown was announced last week.

When the party briefly exited their tour bus to take photos of a herd of bison, they were aggressively ordered by armed National Park Service rangers to get back in the vehicle on the grounds that they were involved in "recreation," and that this wasn't permitted during the shutdown.

The group had booked to stay in a hotel within the park, which soon turned into a prison as the visitors were told to remain in the building until their stay expired, despite the fact that the tour guide had already paid the $300 fee to enter the park.

"We've become a country of fear, guns and control," Vaillancourt told the Eagle-Tribune, adding "They looked like Hulk Hogans, armed. They told us you can't go outside."

The tourists were placed under armed guard and locked inside the hotel as NPS rangers stood outside the doors.

Asian tourists visiting from more authoritarian countries thought they had been placed under arrest.

"Some of the Asians who were on the tour said, 'Oh my God, are we under arrest?' They felt like they were criminals," said Vaillancourt.

When the tour bus was leaving the park, it was also prevented from stopping at a full service rest room on the way out, which had been threatened with having its license revoked if it allowed the bus to stop there.

Vaillancourt said her father, who had spent 3 years in a Japanese prisoner of war camp, "always said to stand up for what you believe in, and don't let them push you around," but that she was now embarrassed, angry and heartbroken for her country as a result of her experience.

Tour guide Gordon Hodgson accused the park service of using "gestapo tactics" to intimidate the seniors.

"The national parks belong to the people," he told the Livingston Enterprise. "This isn't right."

Hodgson added that the foreign tourists vowed never to return to America after the treatment they received.

The incident is yet another example of how the federal government is exploiting the government shut down to punish American citizens as part of a political ploy to make them blame Republicans for the situation.

Last week, an unnamed park services official told the Washington Times that they had been ordered to, "make life as difficult for people as we can. It's disgusting."

QuoteThousands to gather in National Mall for massive immigration rally, march
by Sandra Lilley, @sandralilley

There might be a shutdown in Washington, but it is not stopping a massive rally in the nation's capital to ask Congress to pass immigration reform.  On Tuesday the Camino Americano: March for Dignity and Respect will harness the power of national civic and labor leaders, entertainers, legislators and immigrants rights activists, but also the voices of DREAMers and children of undocumented immigrants.

The rally and march will start at 12pET with a reading of names of those who have died crossing the border.  The rally will also include music from entertainers like Los Tigres del Norte and Lila Downs, speeches from legislators such as Democratic New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez and Florida Republican Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, prayers from religious leaders and speeches from children whose parents have been deported.

Around 3pET, the CEO and President of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Janet Murguia will introduce Illinois Democratic congressman Luis Gutierrez and other members of Congress before a march to the Capitol.

Tuesday's event is a culmination of events around the country as advocacy groups, businesses, religious organizations and individuals organized events in 40 states and over 150 locations – including marches, rallies, prayer vigils, community gatherings and concerts – on Saturday, October 5th, the National Day for Dignity and Respect.

While the Senate passed a sweeping immigration reform bill in June, immigration reform has stalled in the House.

In early September, labor leaders, immigration reform activists and legislators announced their intention for Tuesday's rally.

"We have over 218 votes in favor of reform," said Illinois Democratic congressman Luis Gutierrez when the national mobilization was announced.  "But what's important is that we continue demanding from the outside; nothing occurs inside Washington DC without demands from outside Washington DC."

Speaking about his participation in an immigration march in Illinois on October 5th, Benito Gomez said that due to his status, he had not been able to see his wife and children for almost ten years.

"I deserve an opportunity. I am a working man, who has always paid taxes and contributed to this country just as much as any other American," he said.

"We all have different stories and walk for different reasons," Gomez said. "But at the end of the day what we all want is justice."

Why isn't that being reported on the news if indeed it happened?   I looked it up and all I can find it on is right wing websites.

Do you know the source of the original article?  Who wrote it?   Who reported it?

It smacks of distortions or simply outright lies.  I would like to know where this story came from originally.  If it's news, and it's serious, it generally shows up on CNN, MSNBC, FOX, the BBC, the Guardian, etc., but yet none of them are reporting on this.  Don't you think that calls into question the credibility of this article?

For example here from the first article you posted:

Quote

...and here from the link:

Quote
The bus stopped along a road when a large herd of bison passed nearby, and seniors filed out to take photos. Almost immediately, an armed ranger came by and ordered them to get back in, saying they couldn't "recreate." The tour guide, who had paid a $300 fee the day before to bring the group into the park, argued that the seniors weren't "recreating," just taking photos.

That doesn't make you think about the validity of that story at all?

This coming from one of the individuals who would cry to the heavens if one of those "seniors" accused of "recreating" were charged by a bull Bison from the herd, and gored/killed/maimed; resulting in a judgement against the NPS being rendered by our legal system finding them in neglect of duty.

Idiots get out of their cars on a daily basis and do stupid things so don't come up with that one.  Heck, I watched a guy get out of his car and walk out towards a buffalo with his camera when I was there with the sign right in front of him and the park was open.  In that case it would be the tour guides fault for letting them off the bus and theirs for being dumb enough to get off the bus when they could take pictures from the windows. Has nothing to do with the shut down or the NPS period but your statement is at best a lame argument meant to try to justify something that shouldn't have happened.

Yeah. . . right.

Tell me, are the cages and enclosures at zoos nation-wide there to keep the animals in or the people out?

(Oh and by the way, I agree it shouldn't have happened. And it would not have happened had the damn idiots in congress been doing their jobs instead of scheming to illegally attempt to use the government shutdown as leverage in an illegal attempt to defund a law THEY passed!)

There are no cages or enclosures in Yellowstone.  And, once again, they are not trying to defund it they are only asking the tax penalty be delayed a year for individuals like it is for big business. They quit trying to defund it.

It is you who is the naive one at this point.  You seem to be hearing the POTUS saying he will sit down and talk but not that he won't negotiate as well as hearing Reid say he won't bring up any bills for a vote that aren't what the POTUS wants.  Not a real good way to work together IMO.
