Hey 442,

Congratulations on your retirement!!

Hope you find lots of very enjoyable "tasks" to keep you happy in your free time.

Thanks everyone, I am excited about this next phase of our lives.

I will be spending much time getting our house ready to list, but at least I will be able to start and finish large projects in a decent amount of time.  I suspect  this fall will find me very busy, as will this next month for that matter.  We are looking forward to being together under one roof 7 days a week, instead of the weekends like the past couple years.  Don't know where we will end up for certain, but the ease of her drive into Indy will factor in.  We are looking from northern Hendricks County, to western Hamilton, then from Pendleton south to New Palestine.  And of course all that depends if she is still downtown, or her job moves to Carmel.  If it goes to Carmel, that will actually narrow our search area somewhat.  No way in hell does she want to fight the I-69 mess.  I-70 from the east, or I-65 and 74 from the northwest don't look too bad.  There are other roads available, but we will evaluate those as we find homes that interest us.  No subdivsions, I need some room to breathe, plus I need room for a good size shop to play with cars in. :smitten:  Most likely it will all hinge on finding a house/property we like, more than the drive.

We did a test run last Sunday (optimal conditions) from the I-74/Lizton area to downtown Indy, then another from downtown to the old police barracks at Pendleton via I-70 and SR 9.  The run out to Pendleton was longer, but the travel time was the same due to less city driving.  I'm still leaning towards Pendleton, but she is more interested in the other areas.  We will see.

If we can get our place unload... er I mean sold, to some suck... I mean buyer, in a decent amount of time, we would like to move by year end when the lease is up on da love shack.

I69 is not too bad anymore, I drive it everyday and for the most part it goes pretty smooth, unless there is an accident to deal with.

I70 is also pretty good....I do, on occasions take that route, it is pretty good until you get around the 465 mess..

Got me new replacement TV today, and it's about time.  I bought a Vizio at Wally World in March.  In June the picture went blank and stayed that way.  I called Vizio, they sent someone out about a week later with two circuit boards, but that didn't fix it.  A couple days later they tell me they are sending me a replacement "certified" TV.  Another week goes by and I am told the TV has been shipped, to f'n California, so it can be shipped to Indiana   Since I am at their mercy, I go along with it.  Last week I get a call telling me the TV is here, and I need to schedule a delivery.  I jump through those hoops only to find out another week will have to pass before it will be delivered.

Today I get the call I am waiting for, and go home to meet them.  30 minutes later I have a 42 inch screen WITH a picture. :smitten:  We had been watching an 18 inch with a fuzzy picture all this time, and we both need new glasses too.  Tonight will be good to see the actors and tell them apart.

Got some good news yesterday.  I had mentioned a while back that my job was going away, and I had decided to retire at that time.  Well, they gave us dates yesterday.  On August the 9th, I will officially be on re-allocation.  I will have 90 days to find another position, or I am out the door with severance.  Better yet, since I am where I am with years of service and all that.  I can retire at that time and still get the full amount of severance pay, on top of my retirement.  A win-win for me.

Yes, I have hit the Eli Lilly lottery!!!!  They are going to give me 21 months of pay to retire with no reduction in any benefits.  To keep from upsetting the apple cart, I will likely work until the 13th so I get a full check for that pay period.  It will take about a month for the severance check to arrive, so I have to maintain everything until then.  I'll get my first pension check on the 1st of September.

It's been a long 37+ years to get here, but then again it seems like yesterday that i walked in for the first time.  Gonna miss some of the people, but not the ever increasing BS of corporte America.

I know how great it is to retire, for me it was 38 years.  Good luck, you won't believe me when I say "You won't know how you had the time to go to work, there is always something you can do and not watch the damn clock.

But get all the cash out of them as you can.  The last two week if worked, it was the Christmas shut down.  I worked 14 day at double time and the guys took up a collection for my retirement and gave $680.  I sure am glad, it was 3 months before I got my first retirement check.  They claimed the lost the papers.  Again good luck.

Haven't heard that one, care to enlighten me?

FIGMO is an old military acronym.

When someone had received his/her orders to be transferred from one duty station to another, or was about to retire, or, for any other reason, was about to change the place where he/she worked, occasionally he/she would not work with quite the same zeal for accomplishing mission as he/she perhaps once was.

When questioned about this, one would usually reply, "F**k It, I Got My Orders"; hence, the "FIGMO" acronym.
