I have to be some kind of stoned to watch NASCAR...I just don't get it. One of my friends is really into it. When I asked him why he said, "Because of the wrecks."
I have a hard time to sit down and watch a whole race, but I love to follow it....it is a great sport of guys who really have some serious go-nads...
Usually try to time it so there's about a quarter to a third of the race left.
That's when they quit patty-cakin' around and start the race.
If there's nothin' else decent on, I'll watch it.
Although I do love watching golf, which all of my friends find equally boring.

Did you have Trader Joes in Florida? The wine is called Charles Shaw and it used to be $2 buck Chuck but they raised their prices to $2.99. It is really good stuff!

Yep, we even have one downtown where I work..that's w/in walking distance. There was a recall on something from there, this weekend, but I can't remember what it was. Whatever it was, I remember thinking that I get it from a produce stand down the street, so it didn't effect me.

Man, I am too! But not the kind in the photo..........I've been spoiled.
We used to frequent this bar in Nashville called the Cockeyed Camel when we were in college. Their claim to fame was their nachos.
Instead of the gloppy mess of having hot, plastic cheese poured over your chips making the chips soggy by the time you got to the bottom...these nachos were individually prepared.
Each round chip had a smear of beans, then topped with some ground beef that was sauteed in onions and garlic and cumin; one round jalapeno slice and then a sprinkle of REAL Monterey jack cheese. Sour cream and hot sauce were served on the side.
It was so nice to get all of those flavors in one bite without all the gloppy mess!
I've since duplicated them and now they are a favorite at our Superbowl parties and other gatherings!

What type of drink would you recommend for someone w/a head cold...no wait...someone w/a head cold who also had a very busy and somewhat frustrating week at work...okay..someone w/a head cold, who had a hellava week and who is definitely ready for the weekend...whatcha got? :biggrin:
Take some rum (about 1.5 cups worth) and put it into a pot. Drop in a cup of sugar and heat until the sugar dissolves. Pour into your favorite mug and sip yourself to oblivion.
This recipe was given to me by an old Russian sailor, and I've used it pretty regularly. It lets you sleep, opens up the sinus cavities, and helps kill some of those germs. Typically I feel a lot better the next day.
Take Mucinex the following day. It'll break that crap up.
I'm sorry you're feeling under the weather PIYA. (Make sure Lil'Mojo is asleep before yah start sippin though. This stuff will put yah out. :biggrin:

Hello everyone....it has been a very tough couple of weeks for the ol'bird..........I had a gall stone block my bile duct and was shutting down my liver and some of his buddies, like the pancrease...I got very, very sick and had to spend a few days in the hospital........the doc told me, had I waited a couple of more hours, It may have not been a Merry Christmas for the hawk family. So, I am very, very grateful and thankful that I am back to work and feeling "great"...I had developed pnemonia just to add a little flare to things...but even THAT is under control and is healing...I have not been posting the last few days, but I have managed to pop in a read up on everybody....so, the BAR IS OPEN.... ;D

LOL! I noticed that on the sign as well and wondered about it.

What I am trying to say is, that with the divorce rate of over 54% you and I are very lucky that we found a true friend, a buddy, a soul mate and person who we were lucky enough to find to travel through life. For with out them we would be truly lonely and not as happy.

The other one spoke up and said, yep, they want electricity, gas stove, washer and dryers, yep they want all the finer things in life.

Not that it is any of your business, but my wife and I have got along GREAT for 29 years because neither of us are about ourselves, but about our family. Our kids are first and foremost. We are planning a nice vacation WITH the entire family this fall, we are getting a dog, and planning on getting a pool. So the wife and I, went out for a nice steak dinner...and that is it.
We would rather spend our hard earned money on things for the family instead of jewerly or flowers and such.
Don't get me wrong...she still has some nice jewerly and such, but is not a "high-mantainecne" woman....

If you're going to get a pool, I want to get you some advice. Don't get one that is buried in your yard. Get above ground pool. I had a 28 foot round pool, 28 thousand gallon pool with all of the goodies. A good filter, a robot pool cleaner, heater. Had it for 7 years. After all of that time of the trees leaves, rain off the trees turning the pool a bright green, chemicals, the cost of gas and the kid growing up and leaving, I got rid of the pool. I gave it to a family and they picked it up and enjoyed in for many years.
Also with a above ground pool, if it is done right you don't have to put a fence around your yard or the pool. It was fun for a little while. I sure would not have another one. Done that and did that. :biggrin: If we go want to go swimming, I get out the boat. :titanic:

We had a cheap throw away pool last year, just to see if the kids would use it. They did, and loved it. I think I may hold off until this winter and take advantage of a sale from Watsons....I want to build a deck and do some major landscaping in my back yard. I heard the most import thing is a good filtering system. Do you agree?
I have an inground pool - 16 x 32. I spend practically nothing on chemicals and the water is beautiful.
I have an AutoPilot chlorinator system. It makes chlorine from the salt in the pool water. I have to add about 100 lbs of salt in the spring (total cost about $25) I adjust the chlorine level at the 'computer' on the wall that controls the system.
I have a Polaris pool vacuum, so when I need to clean the bottom, I just flip a switch on the wall and the little robot crawls along the bottom sucking up stuff into his bag - it doesn't go into the filter.
Speaking of filters, you can't beat DE filters!
I admit that these will add a bit to the cost of the pool, but I wouldn't have a pool without them. And I have had my pool since 1986.
Thanks Olias, all good food for thought.......I am going to have to get very serious about this soon. I may stick another cheapo up for one more year and do it right next spring. My 11 year olds are not too picky. But to get my wife and other kids in, I got to shell out some cash and do it right.

If you're planning on doing it right, the most important thing you can do is develop a relationship with a pool service company you can trust. You will need lots of advice and you need to feel comfortable that you aren't being ripped off. You will have to educate yourself on pool chemistry.
You will need to get your pool water tested a few times a year, and if you follow their instructions explicitly, you will have a trouble-free pool.
Did you know that if you can smell chlorine in your pool, it means you don't have enough free chlorine, not too much?
Did you know that if someone complains of eye irratation, it isn't the chlorine, it's the pH?
And don't forget alkalinity, calcium hardness, and stablizer .....

I got a small taste of this last year, trying to keep the little 12' cheapo pool I had. It was like taking Chemistry all over again.
Again, good advice. I want someone to lean on and do this right. I do NOT want to be spending my entire summer doing chemistry tests. It has GOT to be fairly simple or I will not do it. I don't have the time or patience to mess with it too much.

That's why I LOVE my salt water pool with the AutoPilot http://www.autopilot.com/ (http://www.autopilot.com/)
I still have to check the water every couple of days for chlorine and pH levels. Weather and swimming loads will affect chlorine demand and rain will mess up your pH. But at least after your spring tune-up, all you should ever have to buy is a pH adjuster. Really easy!

You live in Florida don't you. Clean air and no maple trees. Right. Never was a Salt Pilot in my day with a pool. New technology, huh. Here in Indiana with out a pool heater the pool temperature is only 70 degrees in July, to cool to swim in. Quite an expense for 3 good months a year.
Most of the people here in Indiana, after they have them a few years. They fill them in and plant grass. I know one couple with a ground pool, put in in Japanese Koi fish and Lilly pads and a few bull frogs. After 7 years for me it was a pain in the ass. :yes:
The HOA (Nazi's) where I live will only allow an in ground pool. No above grounds.
And in ground pools in this part of the country are BIG $$! :rant:

I really feel for you Horse about HOA's. I know some people over in Noblesville, Ind. who have very nice houses where the HOA's rule with an iron hand. :angry:
One person couldn't plant a tree, because of the grounds keeper. One couldn't put a tomato plant in his front planter box. One had to go to the HOA's meeting to have his replacement garage door OK-ed because he wanted windows in it. One home owner had to take down a swing set he had bought for his kids. Why, because it was to cheap. The wanted him to buy the approved set which was solid red wood and cost $1,800.
Like you said, they are Nazis. One person I knew didn't like the way the HOA members were, he and his close friends ran for the HOA board. He won the top job and his friend got the other board chairs. He changed a lot of stupid rules. Some of the ex-board members sold their houses and move out. :haha:
On the other side of HOA's. They do play a part in protecting property values and the overall beauty of a neighborhood. When I first moved into my home in 1975 (yes ... I still live in the same place) it was a beautiful neighborhood. Then after about 15 years, the HOA dissolved. Now I have a neighbor who lets ths grass grow a foot tall before she cuts it. Another neighbor who has a couple of junk cars parked in his front yard. Another neighbor who leaves his trash cans and recycling bins at the end of his driveway - forever. :rant: :rant: :rant:

Yeah, I am lucky. The trees are to the northeast and most of our wind comes from the west and northwest. Even so, when we get a Noreaster, it isn't that big a problem. The little robot in the pool picks up most of the stuff that blows in.

I have no problem with HOA's if you know up front all the rules and regulations BEFORE you buy your home. You know what you are getting into....or at least you should have. They can be a good thing. I like being out in the country, on my own property to do what I want to, or at least within reason.

But, trash cans can disappear forever. :grin2: My main gripe is we had a single mother who bought the house next to me. She has two boys. She put up a basketball hoop right next to the street. The boy play basketball out in a very busy street. Pass traffic has already hit the goal one time. Who knows she might want them run over. :haha:

Sounds good...hope I'm not too late! Darn husband worked my butt off last night in the yard. Slave driver! I have to chuckle....our home in FL has a HOA and I'd say they fall into the Nazi category. Can't paint house without prior permission, must keep grass healthy (can be a feat in FL during dry season), no farm animals, harleys, rv's or boats. The good news is that your assured neighborhood integrity. Our home in PA is in a "rural residential" area and homeowner can do as they please, within reason. We woke up this past Monday to one of our neighbors cutting all of the limbs of
our pine trees that fell on his property. We now can see directly into his back lot from our deck and have to look at all of his JUNK!
So, last night dh decided to "build a fence". I feel like the Hatfields 'n McCoys. We might need a lot of drinks before this is all over! :biggrin:

Opening up the bar and celebrating my fathers 90th birthday today. He still has a very sound mind, but his legs and hips are wearing down, and makes it difficult for him to move about, but he still does. I have been very fortunate to have him in my life for as long as I have. He is STILL regarded as my hero in this life. He is the epitome of integrity and honesty.
Though he lost my mother 14 years ago, he has still been the core of this family. He has nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren who will all be there today to celebrate.

Thanks guys! Libby, not a day goes by when "Something" I do or see, that reminds me of my mother. I lost her almost 14 years ago. I think my Dad had a really good time seeing all of his kids, grandkids and great-grand kids.

No, not really. Our group went to a Mariners game. I got to see some mountains off in a distance and downtown Seattle. We stayed in Bellevue and it is really a neat town. I know that even though I did nothing bus SIT..............I was worn out as if I had been working all day long. Going to the west coast is freaking LONG, no matter HOW you slice it.

For me the old gang was the one that began in the Bluefield Daily Telegraph Obituary column. A high school friend suggested I check it out, and did, and WOW: there was a side of Bluefield, WV and Bluefield VA that I did not know about. I was hooked. It was quite a while before it began falling apart and I joined up here. As for Sandy, I miss her. I thought she was one classy lady.

Yeah, I agree. She and I disagreed and nearly everything politically and religiously, but was able to be civil and kid around with one another. I miss her.

I remember when the BDT was just a basic messaging system where you could post comments on article, etc. Before they ever switched to Hey Martha.
After the HM transition, that's when I 'met' all of the fine people here like Hank, Palehorse, Y, Exterminator, etc. Unfortunately, it's also the time I met Dingo Don rose and all of his sock accounts like Jack the Toad, etc. :rolleyes:
