TKD is used to promote self worth and discipline.  The instructors that I know work with building up the kids.  It is not so much about the sport itself as it is maturing, controlling feelings and making smart choices.  I have seen it work for several different reasons.
It's always good to get kids involved in things like that.  They get to interact with other kids, who have the same interests. It gives them the skills to work with, and socialize with others. I think it was a very good idea.

The saddest part of it for me is the kid developed the self pity thing.  That bothers the crap out of me more than anything else.  Oh poor me!  Everything always happens to me!  Whatev! I can't stand grown people like that and to see it in an 11 year old was so irritating!

The parents need to step up, and teach their kids that violence isn't  the best way of dealing with problems in life. I know kids get bullied, but come on... you can't use that as an excuse to hurt, and kill people. I agree whopin' somebody that picks on you may help, but killing them, or blowing their house, or school up is just plain crazy. The teachers can only do so much.

Sure you can. I have seen kids tortured mercilessly by their peers until it drives them insane. It's not an excuse, its a reason for them. I was a big kid in school, peaceful and taught not to pick on kids, was a Christian, took my Bible to school to read like a good kid and I got crucified for it and being poor. This shit doesn't happen overnight either, it goes on for years and years for some kids. And kids aren't adults so you can't always factor they are going to do the right thing, especially when adults RARELY do the right thing.

I am not saying it's right by any means, but I sure understand why they do it. I have always been able to talk to kids that go through that kind of crap and help them. When I owned an arcade and game shop, kids would always come talk to me about everything. Some of them talked about being tortured and bullied. Nobody seems to understand them. I guess because I went through it myself, I can help. I can remember how adults seemed like they had no clue at all what a kid was going through, and I can't imagine that changing.

I am not picking on Kimmi and my remarks aren't directed at her, I am sure she is a fine teacher.

It's bad to say, but he'll probably end up being some sad sack, that can't deal with anything, and blame everybody in the world for his shortcomings in life. People like that are extremely irritating.

What is sad about that is it's self talk and the start of or possibly depression. From what I have heard about this kid, low self esteem and a rat bastard environment, he is a high possibility for it. You don't just tell people to snap out of that shit, its a rut they need help, probably some kind of structured change in their life and or some therapy to turn them around. If this kid is isolating it could turn into depression, then comes the suicide thoughts. Kids sometimes will suicide just to get even with everyone around them whom they feel has dicked with them. Insane, but we are talking metal illness and it's an ugly thing.

You're right bullying can be brutal. I got picked on as a child, because I had heart problems, and missed a lot of school. Some of the bullies would taunt me by throwing their arm to their chest, and say " Oh oh, I'm having a heart attack" and then fall to the floor. It was very cruel. I was very self conscious, and pretty much got tired of it, and quit school on my 16th birthday. I let them win. My sister got picked on sooo bad, that she tried to kill herself several times. So, I do understand the bullying thing, but I don't think it's an excuse to do heinous things.

He has been depressed since I first met him.  That is why I said originally that I think a good option for him would be for him to go away for treatment rather than him be in out patient at the mercy of his mom's transportation.  He needs to go and build himself up with trained professionals.  He isn't a lost cause, but he sure could get that way if they let him out with once a week therapy!  Obviously that didn't work the first time!

I agree, mostly. If your sister did kill herself, you might think differently of the pricks that drove her to it. I know I would.

BTW, you sure have a dark hero. I googled your dexter guy and he's a psychopath...lol

Shipping him off to a booby hatch the right thing? He'll learn crazy shit from the other crazies. It's about like sending a shoplifter to prison, they come out well educated criminals. The kid needs some good foster parents, a model environment not more variations from the norm. he'll never have a baseline for normal at this rate. The kid should have had more intensive therapy and more of it to reinforce it. Therapists vary in talent though and you can easily get some crappy ones, psychologists can be just as sucky too, especially around the low income clinics. Talent in those fields is like anything else, lured away for the big bucks.

I hope the mom wasn't a dumb bitch and dropped his therapy? That is one bill you can run up and work out with them over a period of FOREVER and if you are low income there is help for paying it no matter how poor you are. If she is that poor, shouldn't she be on Title 19 and have a medical card for the kid? Or is she too stupid to go get that for her kid? Like I said, foster parents. Sad but sounds lots better than real Mom.

I agree, the further away he gets from his parent's negative influence the better. I wouldn't think outpatient therapy would be an option, considering what he did.Surely, they wouldn't let him go home, after something that drastic would they? Man, I hope not.

I have a friend that works for the foster care program in her state and the outlook is bleak. For every good foster parent, there are 10 bad ones. Unfortunately, they're in high demand and the money looks good to losers. I've also known several people who've gone through foster care and the stories are horrible. How those people continue to care for kids is amazing. Anyway, I agree with Kim. Let the professionals help. Those who have experience with his problems and are able to encourage a positive outcome.

Jeez, what did he do? Did they catch him dragging a bag of bombs into the school? Or did he just talk some shit and this pussyfied, jump at your own shadow, politically correct system bust his balls in drama queen fashion? I am guessing off the top of my head how this went down, he was probably being dicked with, lost his temper and vented some crazy shit, (who hasn't, lets be honest) and some asshat turned him in and cranked up the drama. If that is a crime (talking serious shit when mad), then the National Guard should be storming my apartment along with every 3 letter agency known to tax dollars.
