Sadly enough sometimes, even reading the policy, you don't know what kind of coverages you are getting until its too late.

Yep, because the fine print of the policies is typically written in such a way that, even if people read it (and I'm betting 99.99% do not), it is nearly impossible to understand.  There are currently several large class action lawsuits in LA over this exact issue as it relates to homeowner's policies.

Okay, I'm going to restate my complaint....

I do not mind answering anyone's intelligent question concerning thier coverage.  That is, in fact, my job....

However, it pisses me off when employees expect me to do everything for them.  Most questions asked of me yesterday could've been answered by a look at their insurance card, or at most, a quick visit to the company's web site.

Why would anyone trust someone else with something as important as thier health insurance coverage?  Although I know quite a bit about the choices offered here, what is best for someone depends on their own family situation.

Then they walk up to me and say "Which of these is the best?"

Well dumb-ass, I don't know..... I know what is best for me, but not what is best for you......

Maybe they're simply preoccupied with other things that may be important to them...like running the company.   ;)

Ins. is a  priority for an person who has his head screwed on straight. Most of the people I'm talking about don't run a company. Those kind of people usually have the shit straight.
BTW, this thread is called Random acts of venting.   ;)

I like the people who get pissed off at you b/c they actually have no clue what their coverage is.  :smash:

The people I'm talking about just don't want to deal with it, most of the time because they are too damn lazy....

I don't deal much with health insurance, but I do auto, home, life, commercial, motorcycle, boat, etc...anyway, I've been there, too. Sometimes its good to vent.

I don't like insurance companies who are in the business of ripping people off.  You pay and/or your employer pays your premiums to them and then when you actually need them to pay they deny you for no reason other than they hope you won't pursue it any further after receiving three or four denial notices.  And, then you get smart and send a letter with a letterhead with an attorney's name on it and then out of the blue the claim is paid...with a big apology saying there must have been a misunderstanding...yeah right, can't make the quota of denied claims, that's the big secret misunderstanding.

Sometimes unexpected things arise and you don't have time, but from personal experience with my own insurance, I recommned getting a pre tx estimate for anything beyond a regular dr. visit. Also, call them yourself and ask about it. Write down date, person's name you spoke with, procedure code(s), etc. Follow up, follow up and follow up some more.

It's understandable that unexpected things arise.  That's why I didn't get real concerned until about the third denial notice and after I had sent in every piece of evidence I had that showed the insurance should have covered the procedure and then I still got two more denial notices. And, each one getting nastier in its content until I sent the letter with the attorney letterhead and I got a response back that it was some big misunderstanding.

The sad thing about it is, insurance companies denying claims for no reason as been around since they started.  I think it's downright sick to take advantage of people who they know can't or won't fight back.

Same way with those credit card companies like Capital One...how do you think they make their money?  They make it by issuing cards to people at risk who they know will probably default and a $300.00 credit debt in a year or so becomes $1,800.00 and so on and they take them to court and get a judgement against them, put a lien on property if they own it or garnish their wages or bank accounts.  They don't make money or profit on those who have good credit who pay their balances off in full every month.
