I don't like able bodied lazy people who blame everyone else for their misfortunes.

I don't like people who vent on internet forums.

Where I work, I handle insurance for about 250 people.  I had meetings today to explain changes and procedures for the new plan year (beginning in January)  I cannot believe how damn stupid educated people can be.  How in the hell did they get through college when they can't follow simple step-by-step instructions??   sonofabitch!

It is my opinion that people are lazy about their ins. They expect the dr. office, the pharmacy, the hospital and everyone else to know the specs on their ins. when they don't know the first thing about it themselves. They want everyone else to spend all day on the phone figuring it out, but God forbid they call about their own insurance when something doesn't pay they way "they think it should". Read the book, idot. Where is that bitch slap icon when you need it?

Kerrybeth, you sound like you have dealt with this yourself, what do you do for a living?  If you don't mind me asking.

Since apparently nothing is too obvious...

Inasmuch as you handle the insurance for your company, doesn't it make sense that you understand more about it than the average worker there?  If they could do it all themselves, would they need to pay you?  I'm in IT and I often have to explain things to my user community that seem as though they should be obvious but you know what?  They're my customers and that's my job.  Doing it with a positive, helpful attitude makes my time at work more pleasant for everyone.  You should try it!

I did not go to college for business & long b/f I was a pharmacist I knew the ins and outs of my own insurance. That is why they give you a manual. That is unless the insured can't read or is just too lazy. Seems to me like people would know what they are signing up for. How difficult is it to remember a annual deductable? How difficult is it to remember what your copay is? IT'S YOUR INSURANCE, DUMBASS. READ IT!

The problem is, many places where you are covered by insurance don't give you a manual. You get a "Certificate of Insurance."

Many times the Certificate of Insurance is simply a summary of the policy and does NOT contain all the "ins and outs" of the policy itself.

In fact, the Certificate has a caution on it, warning you to consult the policy for details.

Usually there is only one person in the company (usually the human resources person) who has a copy of the actual policy.
Ignorance and fanaticism are ravenous. They require constant feeding.

So, how do you know if you want the ins. if you don't know what the annual ded. and copay are??
What kind of ins. did you have that did not give you a manual?
I have a manual, but have still contacted the ins. co. about my insurance via phone b/c IT IS my insurance. If I'm paying for it, I want to know what my coverage is.

Sadly enough sometimes, even reading the policy, you don't know what kind of coverages you are getting until its too late. I know of one company right now that issues policies passing them off to be major medical policies (they even read like major medical policies) yet they are no more than a hospital supplement policy. Me being a licensed insurance agent, I couldn't tell the difference. My boss who has been an agent for 35 years couldn't tell the difference either. It is up to the person issuing the policy to EXPLAIN exactly what coverages they are getting and answer any questions if they insured doesn't understand it.

I also used to work in the pharmacy. Insurance is a hard thing for a lot of people to understand. Yes, sometimes it got frustrating, but that doesn't make the people dumbasses because they didn't understand. It's all part of the job.
