Same way with those credit card companies like Capital One...how do you think they make their money?  They make it by issuing cards to people at risk who they know will probably default and a $300.00 credit debt in a year or so becomes $1,800.00 and so on and they take them to court and get a judgement against them, put a lien on property if they own it or garnish their wages or bank accounts.  They don't make money or profit on those who have good credit who pay their balances off in full every month.

We fought this exact same problem with Capitol One too for quite a while. Our issue was they would charge the finance charge the day before the bill was due which, of course, would put it over the limit. That in turn would tack on a large amount for being over the limit. It was a never ending battle. This was a long time ago when this happened.

Ironically enough, on the other side of the spectrum, my dad had 3 credit cards from them when he died. I figured it would be a big hassle trying to close his accounts but they have been the easiest out of the 6 different ones he had to close out. No problems whatsoever. Crazy, huh?

Capital One also has a distinction of when people cancel their cards right before the month that the cycle charge is to be put against it, they'll say they never cancelled because their policy is you must call a customer service agent to cancel and they'll say they never received a call and like I said, unfortunately for some they'll actually pay the company to stop hounding them even when the they're the one Capital One is taking advantage of.

Another thing is companies like Capital One who prey upon college students is disgusting.

I'm glad you didn't have any problems regarding your father and his accounts with Capital One...at least there's one nice thing to say good about them I guess. :)

This is why I'm glad I don't have, and never will have, credit cards! My husband has one and we are getting ready to close the account, since he only got it as a credit building tool (Hey, I used it to pay off some old collections, then pay the credit card all off, and do it again! It was genius!)

I work in insurance as well, and the thing that really irritates me is when a customer is adamant about only carrying the auto insurance liability coverage that the state requires (the whole "I want it as cheap as possible, nothing extra" bit"). Then when something goes wrong, they say, "what do you mean, I don't have towing coverage???", or "you won't pay for me to rent a car???"....drives me crazy!!!!

I stress to them upon purchasing the policy that they don't have these coverages, but they either get amnesia, or they swear I never told them that. I'm considering having each policyholder sign a waiver rejecting towing, rental reimbursement, medical payments, etc. Yeah, that might work. I'm feeling better already...LOL.

That sounds like a good idea Soccermom!

LOL! Same problem here too.....but I don't think your plan will work. They'll just forget they signed the waiver, or better yet, they'll say you signed it for them... ;) ;D

But. It wasn't my fault I swear!! Whatever it was it wasn't my fault.
Don't you just loathe people who don't take responsibility for their own actions? AND the people who encourage this behavior.
It's ALWAYS someone else's fault.

Yep, the whole personal responsibility thing has gone by the wayside, IMO. In another office that I worked at, a policyholder actually accused the primary agent of changing their comprehensive deductible to $500 from $250 without their knowledge or permission. Like an agent would actually have nothing better to do than scroll files thinking, "hmmm, whose deductible can I mess with today?".

Another good one is the peeps who, when their insurance cancels, say, "but I didn't get a bill". You know how often I hear that one?? The sad thing is, sometimes it's the truth. But when I don't get a bill from my phone company, or my cable company, I give them a call to find out what's going on. *shrugs*

I've heard that one at least 5 times today.

I totally agree with you, if people would just accept their personal responsibility for whatever happens to them, then we wouldn't need insurance companies.  Oh wait, that wouldn't be great for you though, because you'd be out of a job.  So, realistically in order to keep your job you want people to shun their personal responsiblity, right?

Oh yeh, especially today...lol

I had one today that wanted to know why we didn't call her and tell her that her premium was due. We only have 1500+ clients....geez! No problem!!

OMG! Minimum Limit Freaks! I hate those people! They want to get by as cheaply as possible, but if they'd break it down to dollar amount per $1000 of liability, they'd see that is MUCH CHEAPER to buy the higher limits! Heck, we have a case where I quoted someone 100/300/100 and the 250/500/100 WAS $5 CHEAPER! We try to never write anything below 100/300, not in Fishers where everyone has nice cars and isn't above suing. LOL

Anytime I have used my auto insurance it is b/c some uninsured twit in a piece of shit hit my high end suv. So, I am actually taking responsibility for another person who should have a huge "L" stamped on their forehead.

BTW, I don't think she is going to lose her job b/c people are paying their bills on time.
