Bill Nye the Science Guy thinks God sucks too.  ;D

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Scientist and children's television personality Bill Nye, in a newly released online video, panned biblical creationism and implored American parents who reject the scientific theory of evolution not to teach their beliefs to their youngsters.

"I say to the grownups, 'If you want to deny evolution and live in your world that's completely inconsistent with everything we've observed in the universe that's fine. But don't make your kids do it,'" said Nye, best known as host of the educational TV series "Bill Nye the Science Guy."

That's why the authoritarians and religious fundamentalists want to control the educational opportunities of the young.  They know if you can indoctrinate children, those children will find it difficult to break that indoctrination as adults.  It's why I see religion being forced on children as mental child abuse.

Law of Logical Argument - Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about.  ;)

"You've probably noticed that opinion pollsters go out of their way to include as many morons as possible in surveys ... I think it's dangerous to inform morons about what their fellow morons are thinking. It only reinforces their opinions. And the one thing worse than a moron with an opinion is lots of them." -- Scott Adams

In other words: Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  ;)

"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." -- Upton Sinclair

"Hitler is gone, but if the majority of our fellow citizens are more susceptible to the slogans of fear and race hatred than to those of peaceful accommodation and mutual respect among human beings, our political liberties remain at the mercy of any eloquent and unscrupulous demagogue." -- S. I. Hayakawa

Exactly.  It's especially effective long term, and harder to break, when those early inculcations are served up with a heapin' helpin' of threats of fiery eternal damnation.

But the government should not keep it from being taught to kids either.  Separation of church and state.  Remember? Most kids, if not comfortable with it will back away from it, mine did at an early age.  I let them make their own choice just like my parents did with me.  I realize some parents don't give their kids a choice and that's whats sad.  Sometimes it's just as easy to believe we got here from some residue which came off of a shoe of an explorer from another planet.  I'm sure you've watched those shows on the Discovery channel.

^----- Hypocrisy pure and simple.

You only endorse the separation of church and state when it serves your purpose.

Y, thinks it is mental child abuse, for parents to raise their kids in a Christian manner.  That is about as "wrong' of a comment as I have ever heard.

That is hypocritical....

if you don't like religion, don't have one.

again, liberal arrogance and egotistical thinking....the most self-righteous group of people I have ever come across.

but that is just MY OPINION.

They cannot dictate what religion you can be or stop you from practicing religion and religion cannot tell you who to vote for or which party you have to belong to.  So where am I being hypocritical?  A non denominational printing on money, Christmas decorations, and saying Merry Christmas is not commingling church and state.  Telling a school they have to honor a Muslim's prayer time but not allowing a teacher to wear a cross necklace is. Also, to the best of my knowledge, the only place religion is taught is in private religious schools and to try to shut them down would be wrong.  Now as far as saying the pledge at the start of the day that is a good thing and has nothing to do with religion it is simply pride in country.  And saying the word God is not a thing to be ashamed of it is our word for Allah or what ever another country calls him.  That is also non denominational.  Saying a prayer before congressional meetings, saying prayers at sporting events, graduations, or anything else is also non denominational and if people don't like it they should not stop others from doing so but instead stand there silently until it's over, that's what I do because I respect other rights to pray if they wish.
I am now going to get off the soap box and let the mud slinging begin once again 'cause I know it's coming.

"If you don't like religion, don't have one."  I agree!

If you don't want an abortion, don't have one.

If you don't want to use birth control, don't buy it.

If you're a woman and you don't want equal pay, don't take it.

If you're a woman and don't want birth control pills on your health insurance.  Don't ask for it.

If you want Mitt Romney tax records, ask for them.

If you want the Christians to get there nose out of a woman Virgina, tell them to go to hell.

That's my opinion and this also my opinion -------->  :zoners:

That's not quite what he said at all.  Religious indoctrination of children (a.k.a. dumbing them down) is really no different than continuing to insist that Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy all exist, even after the child starts questioning those stories and knows better.

No one but the bible contains several stories of incestuous relationships.
