Okay, been very busy lately Abbey...and thinking about how I should answer this...

First of all, I will admit, I am NO AMBASSADOR of Christianity. So I am going to answer this through MY EYES.

I believe God used Jesus, to set the example of how we should want to live our lives.  Being human and flawed as we are, we as a group, can NEVER be like Jesus.

What is wrong with practicing the laws that Jesus gave us, the examples he gave us, to strive towards that?

I know that I cannot even come remotely close to him....and I am as flawed as the next guy.  I allow too much of my human emotion to say and do things I sometimes regret.  Such as despising anyone, like Hillary.... I'm not sure what that really means, other than I completely disagree her ideology and what she stands for.  Do I want her to die? NO.  But, I do not want her to be my next POTUS.  Maybe despise is the wrong word, but it is a word that makes me feel better when I say it...

I don't think it is being un-Christian, to NOT LIKE someone.  I think we can love and still not like.  Two completely different emotions.

Now, with all that being said.......I want to share some personal thoughts, and that most people on here have characterized me into what they believe me to be.

I am not a regular Church-goer.  I have been a half dozen times in the last 6 years.  I too, have problems associating with many, many so-called Christians.  I know too many that are extremely judgemental and are flat out assholes.  They couldn't love their neighbor if their life depended upon it.

That doesn't mean there cannot be some amazing folks who thrive to be as much like Jesus as they can be....I know a "few" people who are the epitome of what I think a good Christian should be.

I cuss (not a lot, but I do), I drink beer (on occasions), I get angry, and I say things I sometimes regret.

Getting to your question.....Values.

It is my belief that MOST of the values, we as Americans, are based upon Biblical teachings.  The fact is, that the vast majority of our forefathers were God-fearing people. It isn't really much to argue about.  That doesn't mean they didn't sin.  Adultery has been around since the beginning of time.  I agree too that Christians tend to be easy targets for hypocrisy (like sex before marriage as you pointed out)....many eyes are upon them, ready to attack....and justifiably so.

My stance on homosexuality is this.  It is MY belief, that it is wrong....but, so is a number of other things that we ALL are guilty of.  Is being gay MORE of a sin, than lying?  I don't see where it is in the Bible that says this sin is worse than this sin.........So, I will NOT judge if two people of the same sex want to marry..that is between them and God, imo....

I get angry at the flamboyant gays, who choose to parade down the street, protesting, wearing flamboyant clothing telling me that I MUST accept them.  I would get just as angry if at A-Hole Christians do the same, like those from Westboro Baptist Church...I imagine God rolling His eyes and being very disappointed in them.....and I think, they will have as much if not more to answer to than anyone....

None of this hampers my relationship with God. I believe with all of my soul, He exists, as described in the Bible.  I believe, that Jesus IS indeed the Son of God, as described in the Bible.

I think, as a whole, Christianity is amazing and that an extreme amount of great things has been accomplished because of these people........millions upon millions of dollars has been given to help "the least of these".  Many of these folks spend week, month and years of their lives to aid others, because of their faith in God.

Yes, I understand why it has a bad name to many, but it seems like many people use those bad people to tarnish those who are very good, people, in the name of Christ.

I'm not even in the same league as many Christian I know.....I fall way short, but I do try hard to be a better person.......it is an ongoing process for me.

Not sure if I answered you.........and I fully expect to get peppered back by a few on here........but, I'm good with that........I have been here since the beginning.....and even though I may appear not to like some, that is far from the truth.......I have befriended many on here, and even those I haven't personally met, I think I would get along with them just fine.

one more thing..........I STILL despise Hillary

Totally Hillary's doing.   :icon_twisted:
Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.
