Looks like I've come full circle.

pariann says: "I believe a lot of things that Christians wouldn't like, that aren't necessarily written down in the book.  I am not going to give a tutorial on my belief's"

Just out of curiosity, how did you come to this relationship with a deity?  If not written somewhere, or exposed to you through childhood church-going, etc, how is it you "stumbled" over this "friend" of yours?  If not through a religious experience, are you a movie buff on films like Harvey?
Dan, I didn't say I didn't have any religious background.  The topic of this thread is "God Sucks"   it's not, "tell me how you came to your belief system".  This is my personal relationship, this is my spirtual belief system.  I'm not here to sway other people.  It doesn't matter where I got my belief system from when it comes to talking to people like you, and I'm sure that aside from a few strong feelings on politics and religion you are probably a very nice guy.  But you aren't very tolerant of people who have a differing opinion or outlook on life.   You may not see it, but you are preaching just as much as the believers are, trying to convince us to believe as you do.   It's a shame that you just can't accept that there are people who post right here on the forum who have a faith in religion and no other agenda towards mankind.   That's sad, in my opinion, that you have such a strong drive to tear everyone apart, instead of just letting them believe in what makes them happy.

It also takes a a lot of fun out of life, being as skeptical as you are.

Well, point me to where I am "tearing people apart".  In defending my non-belief, do you think I am attacking others?  The only time I attack is when people lie, or repeat lies, without the slightest research on their own to back up the lies; hank's insistence that the founders were all card-carrying christians, etc.  That is an absolute lie and I WILL attack that kind of stuff.  I AM still puzzled how people can believe the ridiculous, but I only make inquiries into that.  I don't think I have attacked anyone for believing as they do.  I may have done so in the past out of frustration, but you make it sound like I do it routinely.  Please point me to where that is, or is it just the same old response to non-belief; one has to be angry, confused, ignorant, etc, not to believe?  Is that it, or can you point to something?  If you didn't get it, I once believed, so I was in the group that you think I am "tearing apart".

Most of the posts that you make are tearing apart what is said by others....you really can't see it?  You disassemble their words and tell them why they are wrong, in your opinion.  I didn't say you were overly aggressive...and I don't believe I said you were 'attacking'.  I said you don't seem to have any tolerance for those who have faith in a religion.

You choose to be blunt and straightforward with what you say and it DOES come across as extremely condescending and even angry with those who choose to be believers in something that is not what you want to believe.   You don't choose to temper what you say, so that it is a real discussion, where someone wants to be forthcoming with you.  People would much rather guard their responses while defending their position.  it's a type of fear you instill in posters.  No one wants to be ridiculed because they hold an opinion or belief.  People respond to you with the same tone that you respond to them, and in the end, what it all comes down to, there is no resolution, there is no agreement to disagree, you are right and they are wrong.   I'm surprsed that many of them even choose to keep responding.

I read a lot of what you have to say, even though I don't often respond to any of it. And it's almost always the same thing.  You don't sound curious and want to know....you seem to want to tell others why they must be wrong.   Apparently it's who you are, and you don't mind being that way.   Personally, I prefer real discussion where someone actually wants to understand, then just lets me be who I am, without telling me I'm completely wrong.  Sometimes...things that don't hurt others, should just be left alone.
Looks like I've come full circle.

My God Does Not Suck!
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!

Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

So you know it's a him?  You've hung out and whatnot?

Youwill have to figure that out for yourself. I am secure in my beliefs and really don't have to prove anything to you or anyone else. If you have the right to say that God Sucks, I have the right to say he does not.

Ok but when you die and it's just like being asleep forever except that you don't have any dreams, don't say I didn't warn you.  Scary, huh; the thought that it just stops?

If there was no God, we will not know the difference will we. But there is a God and I will see him someday. I am sorry that you might not.

But does it really?

Let's step away from the religious concept for just a second and look at it this way.

The atoms that make up what you are now have been in existence since they were cooked inside some ancient, long-gone star. And they won't cease to exist. They will go on to eventually become part of another being.

LMAO...go with that...when you die, it's over but feel free to cling to whatever fantasy you need to make yourself feel better about it.

Ah, the butterfly effect...perhaps that is true but I doubt we will be aware of how our scattered waste continues.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Carl Jung wrote of "racial memory" in which he espouses the idea that our very atoms possess some sort of "memory"

And Jack London expanded on the idea in "Before Adam"
