That's an awesome post dan.

Thanks.  I mis-remembered the quote from Lennon, although I got the essence of it correct, but fixed it.  My second favorite quote from the man: "I believe time wounds all heels"
"Wherever morality is based on theology, wherever right is made dependent on divine authority, the most immoral, unjust, infamous things can be justified and established." -- Ludwig Feuerbach, The Essence of Christianity, 1841

"A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world" Louis Pasteur

"It is a truism that almost any sect, cult, or religion will legislate its creed into law if it acquires the political power to do so." -- Sir Arthur C. Clarke

Isn't it a great thing that you can believe whatever you want to believe.
Looks like I've come full circle.

Only on these boards.  I am not free to believe what I want because of the imposition of religious edicts in both government and society, at large.  As an atheist, I cannot openly espouse my views for fear of retribution in employment, et al.  So yea, free country, as long as you are a christian or you keep your mouth shut.

I'm sorry that it is that way for you. I don't care at all that you are an atheist and if you were talking to me out in the middle of the street, I would support your right to your belief.  Whether that means anything or not. :)

Thanks and there are plenty of folks who still believe in our Founder's goal of religious freedom, which really is freedom of, and freedom from.

The folks that just assume every good american is a christian and that every good christian is an american will find that their efforts to have the gov't push their agenda will come back to haunt them 10 fold.  When the gov't starts telling them what a good religion is, and that premium property is now taxable and exorbitant salaries paid in those megachurches is fully taxable and the word non-profit goes away all together in relationship to religions.

Its kind of like the folks that hate gays and want to impose their religious beliefs regarding gay marriage.  I think the blow back will be the dissolution of state sanctioned religious marriages and the recognition of civil marriage, only, as a contract between two consenting adults with all the laws and property rights associated, just as it should be.  Then the gov't will no longer be in the business of supporting religion, just as it shouldn't be in accordance with the only higher authority a gov't needs; the Constitution.

Bet Topeka is extremely proud that Westboro claims it as their hometown.
Ignorance and fanaticism are ravenous. They require constant feeding.

They just might be.  Kansas is full of strange people.

Well I've never seen such a piece of pure out blasphemy in all my life.  I venture out of the Church area and I can't believe what I've set my eyes on.  This thread is pure filth and a stench in the nostrils of Almighty God!

Dude, you are way too tense.  Might I suggest a game to help you relax?
Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

Glad to see you not only know what god wants, says, does, or is, but you are hooked up to "his" olfactory glands.  How does that work?  I mean, prayer must have some "physical" properties (RF, or some other wavelengths).  So, how is it you are in "god's mind"?  I can sort of imagine that, but that really is the key to the whole thing, isn't it; imagination?
