You might think he does.....but every time I have a need, and don't know where I'm going to get it met, something happens and it's taken care of.  I always say "thank you, God" when it happens, because I don't see anyone else around to thank.  I don't think he sucks.
Looks like I've come full circle.

many forget Him when things are going good..............

I think God is awsome.........I thank Him often........probably not often enough............I have not been on this thread much..........I don't like the title...

I dont think He sucks either... ;)

Well I would prefer to think someone is watching out for me rather than thinking there are THIS many random coincidences.  Let me make a small list of things I tell no one about.

Let's start by saying, I apply for new jobs every week with no luck, this one I'm not being helped with....BUT not working, I'm getting something accomplished that I would find very difficult to do if I was working.  This MUST be done so that I can put the past 3 years behind me and move forward.

I'm living on a support check that I get once a week and never on the same day!! So I often run out of money before that check comes.  When that happens, I know I'm going to be sitting at home until it does come.  I won't be able to take the kids to their games or practices and I can't always rely on someone else to do it.  Suddenly something comes up where someone else needs something and is willing to put gas in my tank.  I don't go asking for anything, I'm sitting at home and out of the blue, I now have gas til my check comes.

I have to pay for the parenting classes.  I can't afford them.  I went to one and told them I didn't have the money that day to attend the class.  The parenting coach said she would see me anyway that day.  But I wouldn't be able to come back again until I paid that days fee.  I made my appointment for the next week. But when the day came I didn't have the fee for that day or what I owed.  The parenting coach snuck a session in anyway, at no charge at all.  This week came around and I still didn't have the money to pay the fee.  What I owed and what this weeks session would cost.  Suddenly, someone I'd never met needed some computer advice.  What she needed, I couldn't tell her over the computer, I needed to see the computer and what it was doing.  The very next day I was at her house, fixing her computer.  She paid me exactly what I needed to take my class for this week.   I hadn't had a computer repair job in many weeks.

Who do I thank when out of the blue, answers to my unspoken requests are answered?   I have many more out of the blue things I could mention that have happened over the last few months, without me ever saying out loud the need I had that I didn't know how to meet.  Someone, somewhere is watching out for me....and I think it's because I'm honestly trying just that hard to do it all right.  I think it's God.
Looks like I've come full circle.

Pari, I have had many similar incidents...and provisions or answers come "out of the blue"......many friends of mine ALSO have encountered incidents that, the only logical answer is ....GOD.

naw, He does NOT suck at all...

keep on thanking Him....

So is it a good thing that God takes the time to pay attention to and aid in the relatively minute needs of individuals or is it irresponsible when you consider that...

  • roughly 25,000 people die each day from hunger (source: poverty.com)
  • 2 million+ people are dying of aids each year
  • 2 million children in poor countries are dying of Pneumonia each year
  • Diarrheal diseases are killing about 1.6 million each year
  • tuberculosis is still killing about 1.5 million people each year
  • Malaria kills about a million people each year
  • "The so-called childhood diseases of measles, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, and diphtheria are responsible for a little less than a million deaths per year"
  • About 115 people die every day in vehicle crashes in the United States (alone) -- one death every 13 minutes. (source: car-accidents.com)
  • Every two minutes someone in the US is sexually assaulted (source: rainn.org)
  • 847,000-3,470,000 are reportedly homeless in the US alone (source: Wikipedia)
  • 7.6 million unemployed US citizens (source: bls.gov)
  • cancer (no need to say more
  • murder - violent crimes
  • human slavery
  • child abduction/exploitation

So, while he's making sure that Joe Schmoe has bus fare, the rest of his creation is going to hell in a handbasket.

Once again.....I don't ask that anyone else believe what I believe.  And I have my own belief's that don't necessarily coincide with Christian faith.  Belief's that answer the stats you gave.  But they are my belief's and I don't feel it's my place to push them on other people.  There are much larger miracles that take place, it's up to those that know about them as to whether or not they see them as miracles.

Why don't you simply thank the people that happened to fill the need?  I'm pretty sure things didn't pop out of thin air.

I think it's a perfect title given some of the examples cited herein.  ;D

They get thank-you's also.......but they don't and can't know that they are providing something I really needed and only prayed for.  So I thank my prayer request being answered.  Oh, and I pray for other people too, I'm not selfish.

Quite true, I don't believe in him.  Maybe that's why it seems perfect, although I do think there's some compelling evidence presented as well.

Have a good weekend my feathered friend.  ;D

There are almost 300,000,000 people in the US and there is a good chance that a one-in-a-million "thing" (aka, miracle) will occur about 300 times on any given day.  The universe is a random thing and I see no evidence that a "god" has any hand in it, including the solution to petty little problems of the religious.

One of the problems with religions is that those things that could be solved with human initiative are usually "someone else's problem" or "god's will".  We really are a self-centered lot to think that "by the grace of god go I" and that some deity gives a good goddamn what job we have or what car we drive in answering our "prayers".  The shit in your life that happens is just that; shit happens.  If it gets cleared up and things are rosy; shit happens and un-happens to everyone.  It would be nice if you had control over your own life, as most people do, and plan for the shit and the shinola.

A great quote from a great artist is due here: "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." -- John Lennon

And, there isn't a biblical truth (an oxymoron) that comes anywhere close to that.
