I love snow. . . But I absolutely detest this blistering cold weather which we are about to receive.

We got everything we needed to do done today and don't have to stick our noses out the door tomorrow. Definitely gonna have the wood stove burnin' all day tomorrow instead of waiting 'til evening like we have been.

Besides being very cold, it dangerous.   :cold:   If you are out in your car and it stops or you get off the road and the motor quits and you can't find help right away.  You are in deep trouble.

Years ago a friend of mine was transferred to Wisconsin to keep from being laid off during the oil  shut down.  He made friends up there and they give him a aluminum survival blanket, a heavy cover and a survival candle and showed him how to use it.  Just in case he had car trouble.      I kept a blanket and  propane heater in the back seat.

Be careful out there and have something to keep you warm until help comes. :snowball:

In 1993, we were coming back from my wedding shower and we slid off the interstate 3 times before we got to a hotel and stayed there for 4 days. It is really bad on young kiddos at bus stops, elderly and pets. I see many kids who either don't like dressing warmly or parents can't afford the clothes to dress them warmly.

We are suppose to get up to 60 on Saturday and then Saturday evening, the temperature takes a nose dive.

IF the weather predictions are right, and they may not be. Already several of those forecasts are hedging their bets and indicating that while it may warm up compared to today, it may only get warm enough to ensure the precipitation we get will be ice and freezing fog.

Better get your secondary heating source ready and in working order before Saturday. The frigging electricity will go out and may be out for days if that shit comes in as an ice storm.  .  .

It happens it seems, every few years we get hit with an ice storm........about 10-years ago, we got hit that had us without power for three days.....I have a generator that can keep my furnace going.

Ice is dangerous.  My dad's cousin died a few years back due to ice.

He was leaving for work one morning and slipped on some black ice and hit his head on the pavement.  After about a 30 minute recovery, he went on in and worked.  He got a headache around lunchtime which got progressively worse during the afternoon.  By the time his wife got him to the hospital that evening, he was unconscious.  He died at around 2 a.m. the next morning.

I remember that one. We were without power for 2 weeks in Meadowbrook. I remember going all the way to Castleton looking for kerosene heaters. Found 2 at the Sear outlet and bought them both. Still have them.

Now our power lines are all underground in this addition we live in. Problem is they're fed by above ground lines so we are still vulnerable.

Since we've been here we've had ice induced power interruptions 4 or 5 times; the last one being just a couple of years ago when the ice got so heavy on the fewer lines that it snapped the telephone poles carrying them as if they were toothpicks. We were down about 12 hours with that one.
