House Republicans yesterday voted down the Senate's two-month extension of the two-percentage-point payroll tax holiday to 4.2% from 6.2%. They say the short extension makes no economic sense, but then neither does a one-year extension. No employer is going to hire a worker based on such a small and temporary decrease in employment costs, as this year's tax holiday has demonstrated. The entire exercise is political, but Republicans have thoroughly botched the politics.

the bottom line is this the republicans want to pay for this tax cut by a reduction in the federal workforce and a freeze on pay for bureaucrats? And the Democrats don't even want to talk about that...so they took the ball and went home....and they are doing what they do best, blame others for thier failures.

have you lost your mind?.........the senate voted on a 2 month........the house voted on 1-year...........that is NOT a negotiation...that is saying this is it or we are going on vacation.

I was just reminding you, in case you forgot.....it still is NOT what the house passed, and when this happens, the two normally get together and work it out, NOT go on vacation........and it is the democrat controlled house, ran by Harry Reid, that is SUPPOSED to make sure his part is represented, not tell them all to have a "merry christmas".............this needs to be done NOW.  But the dems are playing politics, just as the repubs are. 

The ball is in the senates court...and the house repubs are still willing to work.

Pay for the tax cut by increasing unemployment AND eliminate cost of living increases for the worker-bees (not bureaucrats)? That's a stupid idea. Far be it for them to fairly tax those who can afford it to pay for the tax cuts.
