Please tell us exactly who is holding this up. The Senate approved it with an almost unanimous (89-10) bipartisan vote.

Right now it is Harry Reid.....

"We're here. We're ready to work," Mr. Boehner, Ohio Republican, told reporters before that meeting. "We're looking for our counterparts to sit down with us so that we can do what the president, bipartisan leaders in the House and Senate all want, and that's to extend the payroll-tax cut for one year."

That's such bullshit but it's all good because most of the American people see this for exactly what it is and the Republicans are not only destroying any chance they might have had for the presidency next year but are almost guaranteeing return of the House to Democratic control.  Congratulations!

If the Democrats think this 2 month extension is so critical into saving the economy, why are they fighting the Republicans for a 1 year package?.................... Oh, maybe because it would make the next round in this battle occur after the 2012 elections...and they WANT this to be an ISSUE for THIS election.

and YOU picked what YOU wanted...disregard what some said.

At least I read and considered what you posted and made up my mind what to pick based on what was presented. The first guy in the article even admitted he wasn't speaking for the company. The second person was unequivocal in her response - "any changes should have minimal effect on our customers and their ability to process payroll with the latest tax rate"

You had your mind made up at the first sentence.

Because the Republicans insisted on tacking on all that junk that had nothing to do with the extension. The two month extension was a compromise to continue tax relief while they ironed out the differences. Where have you been?

and the house is waiting to discuss it RIGHT now..........where is the senate?...............OH, they left for Christmas break.

and don't act as if this something NEW to passing bills.........though I agree there should be NO junk attached....there always is.  The dems had junk attacted too....

lets get it done.

The Senate passed the bill with a tacit understanding from Boehner to Mitch McConnell that he could get the bill through the House. The Tea Baggers revolted, and now Boehner looks like a fool.

I think the fools are the senators who left town before this was passed...........Boehner is there and ready to compromise, where is Reid?  Where is Obama?  The repubs are ready to go to work...........One-year vs. 60 days.

I think the pressure is on the dems to come back and negotiate or let the taxes go back onto Americans.
I also think Americans are SICK of the dem senate..........they have NEVER passed a budget....they don't want to do thier job.
btw, two months saves $160 per American....and as the dems want it, will NOT create any jobs.  The repubs offer a solution that WILL create jobs and save Americans $1000.

Boehner was handed a compromise.

The Repubs offer a solution, even in the 2 month compromise, that is paid for with a surcharge on home loans that go through Fannie or Freddy and add over $5,000.00 to the cost of a $200,000.00 home.  In other words, a solution paid for by the middle class that they claim to be helping.

I believe that was what the Senate proposed to do to pay for it.  The Democrat controlled senate.

That was the temporary compromise they arrived at since Democrats clearly weren't going to get the increase on taxes from the wealth they wanted.  Are you seriously so blinded by loyalty to your Republicans that you think you can make a case for them not being directly responsible for this debacle?  Doesn't your religion prohibit you from worshipping more than one god?

What I see is, Boehner and the house willing to negotiate and the dems NOT!

it is THAT simple.

The dems are too worried about taking time off, instead of trying to earn a paycheck.
