I want to see the meetings next time.  I'm tired of not actually hearing what goes on and I know there are others who are tired of it too.  Might just change a whole lot of things to see it for yourself.

Why can't these meetings be held in front of the news media at least?

It would be nice if it were televised so the average citizen would know for sure what is going on instead of just taking one sides word for what's going on.

It is paid for by private funds unlike the National Parks and requires no one for people to walk up and look at it.  To go inside if it's that type of monument, yes maybe, but it's still paid by private funds.  There is a huge difference.  I understand National parks being closed because they use government funding to pay for everything.  This about cutting governmental costs and something that's privately funded wouldn't/shouldn't even enter into the factor. 

It requires security due to the location of the monument, at a BARE minimum.

Using your perspective, why aren't we just letting people run hog assed wild through Yellowstone and every other national park and monument? Why aren't we letting anybody and their brother go to the top of the Statue of Liberty?

Yeah. Let's just let anybody who wants to walk up to our national monuments, and wander through our national parks; piss and shit where ever they want, spray graffiti all over the monuments, set up tents, kills rats and squirrels and roast them over an open camp-fire?

They've had 5 years to pass a simple budget, yet they cannot do even that. What in hells creation would give anyone a scintilla of confidence that they could come to any kind of agreement surrounding the ACA? In fact, their preferred solution is to repeal / defund it; both NOT an option. (Besides, as I said earlier; The United States of America does not negotiate with terrorists; foreign or domestic.)

That monument that was closed is adjacent to the side walk and people just walk up to it and there is no one in attendance there.  It was just blocked off so people couldn't go up and read the names.  You walk off the sidewalk and go past it and back on to the sidewalk.  There was no reason to close it period.
