Really? I got a different feeling from the way GOJ phrased that.

Yeah with his stating he was being sarcastic at the end I didn't appreciate it either.  :icon_evil:

No. . . I had to go to the Cincy area this morning for the funeral. I'm bummed over it too. He looked horrible, although I know the funeral home did the best they could. . .

I always get very emotional at military funerals. . . They play taps and I cannot stop the tears. . .

It was a great sendoff though. . . His widow had to be rushed to hospital right after the service. Anxiety attack, etc. . . Thankfully she has a lot of family around her so I just paid my respects post services and scooted back to the barn. . .

He left me a handgun and his widow hand delivered it to me when I arrived this morning. It has great sentimental value for me, but I told her that could wait. She insisted and told me he had told her a dozen times if anything ever happened to him she was to do that first thing. . .

Damned I'm tore up over this. . . :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( I gota go. . .

PH... did they bust the guy that caused the wreck?God, I hope so.

An old guy that belonged to the r/c flying club my husband is in, died on New Years Eve day. He was 84 and had been in bad shape for the past year. He had a massive heartattack while on the comode, and fell forward into the bathtub. His girlfriend couldn't lift him so he laid there for awhile. At his funeral yesterday he looked horrible. His blood had pooled in his face, and they couldn't get all of it to cover with the make up.  He looked freeze dried.  :spooked: It was a very nice service, and everything went OK. There was a graveside service and it was rainy and cold. He was a Veteran and they couldn't get anybody to do a gun salute for him. Two guys from the Legion folded the flag and presented it. Another guy played Taps, and that's when everybody started to lose it. Taps always makes me cry.

I was just struck by the fact that the "body wasn't even cold" and already the widow was lining up lawyers to sue.
It just seemed rather...I don't know..."Gold Diggerish" to me. I feel bad for PH for his loss, and even more so for the man's family. For that matter, i feel sorry for the drunk driver's family. They may be losing a husband/father as well through this tragedy. The comment about suing just hit me wrong. I was reminded of the scene in "Talledega Nights" where Ricky Bobby and his wife sit their boys down to explain to them that they are divorcing. The boy's response is, "All right! Two Christmases!"

I did not intend to offend.

Let's see....what have we got?

A guy who chose to drink, chose to drink to excess, and then climbed behind the wheel of a ton of metal, went out of control and killed someone else.

On the other hand, we've got a hard-working guy who was trying to mind his own business, i.e., taking care of a family that has now lost his love, affection, and attention -- and, of course, his income.

Should his estate be made to pay for his pi$$-poor choices?

Maybe you should see that a large portion of your income covers the financial damages caused by the drunk driver. Then you could save the family of the drunk driver the difficulties.

Now, that would be a wonderful humanitarian gesture on your part, and display your "compassionate conservative" side to the world.

I think Jaco took this the wrong way......I don't think that the wife was not grieving her loss, by simply ready to "sue" the crap out of this guy who made an extremely poor choice.....there ARE cases where I believe SOME people are 'sue-happy'...but in THIS case, I think this woman has every right in the world to not only assure her family is going to survive this tragic loss, but to assure that this guy no-longer makes this kind of choice again....

FTW, it has NOTHING whatsoever to do with a 'compassionate conservative'.......to me......it has to do with "scum-bag" lawyers who are like vultures during times like this, that are capitalizing off of someone elses mis-fortunes.....THAT is what bothers me about situations like this..

Let me just clarify a few things before you boys get your jocks all in a wad. (Cause I know mines starting to ride up a bit right now).

1. The widow was advised by this writer to obtain an attorney based upon the fact that "the body wasn't even cold yet" and the perps lawyers, or rather lawyers representing the perp's company, were pressuring her to consider signing a waiver in exchange for a check to "compensate her for her loss". My advice to her when she called me hysterical and asking me what to do about it was, and I quote: "Don't sign a god damned thing until you obtain the advice of a good attorney".

2. When she asked me how soon she should do this I told her that if she was okay with it I would speak to her husband's attorney, (who also just happens to be another long time mutual friend and one of our school-mates from back in the day), and that he'd ensure that things were taken care of. Which of course he did in an expedited manner with a minimum of intrusion upon the widow and the immediate family. In fact all that was required of her was to take a few business cards to sling at these jokers if they show up again, and instruction to tell them to contact the firm on the card if they wanted to discuss anything about this. Period.

3. She will be formally meeting with said firm inside of the next 2-3 weeks or so, giving them time to obtain the police reports, autopsy report, etc. and time to strategize before meeting formally with the widow.

The only "money grubbing or gold digging" going on during these few days was being executed by the firm representing the deepest pockets in the whole tradgedy; the perp's company. And I will defend this womans good name, reputation, and honor by whatever means necessary if anybody wants to step up to the plate and start slinging crap about her, or making any kind of outlandish accusations.

Shame on me for letting any of you know about this. Lesson learned and it shall not be repeated I assure you.

PH, you once again showed the classy guy that you are...and I am 100% serious.  You did nothing wrong with your post...if anything, you spelled out exactly what is the RIGHT thing to do in a situation like your friend.  The "sum-bag" lawyers that I was referring too, was exactly the one that went after your friend, during her time of grief and confusion, at tried to pressure her into doing something she would have forever regretted.  You offered her exactly the right advise....

My mistake was to take a personal situtation of yours and turned into a political convesation...THAT was wrong.

I appreciated that you DID share this, and if anything, I believe that your actions speak louder than ANY words on here.........and there IS a lesson learned by (hopefully) others, besides myself on here.
