All I am going to say is..........God doesn't suck.  PERIOD.  I couldn't imagine NOT having faith in Him.

Then how do you reconcile your beliefs in and about god, whatever those may be, with the points that AbbyTC made in her post?

Henry, how do you reconcile a loving god to one who lets abuse happen to the children he supposedly loves?  Christians spout "god is love", how the hell does letting children be abused show love?  Let alone all the other suffering people have to deal with.  You have a cruel god, not a loving one.  Why do you want to have faith in someone who doesn't give a shit about you?

Do you pray and read your bible?  Go to church on Sundays and worship?  Try this experiment.  Go for a few months (preferably more) without doing any of that.  You'll realize it doesn't make a difference if you pray, read, and/or worship or not.  At the least, you're life won't be any different.  At best, you're life will get better because you realize you need to rely on yourself instead of an imaginary being to take care of you.  And then you'll come to the conclusion that it was you doing it all for your entire life.  It's a great feeling to realize it's you in control of your destiny, not some imaginary god who supposedly knows everything about you.  Try it, Henry, you'll like the results!

Thanks AbbyTC. You have a very interesting story -- I'm sorry about the abuse -- and I'm glad you joined us here.

Libby, thanks for the kind words.  I'm glad I'm here, too!  I like reading all the different thoughts on so many different topics.   :)

Where do you suppose this ZIKA virus came from?  I had never heard of this virus before this week.  Now it is in the United States and it can be carried by god's mosquitoes.  Yep, it must be one on god's newest smites  against us sinners for abortions and letting his creations, the homosexuals get married.  :haha:  It has to be that, it couldn't be any other way.  On your knees sinners.   :sinner: :ogod: :devil29:

^^  You know what's funny about that?  It probably wouldn't take too much digging on FaceBook to find a few people espousing that exact same position.  ;D

The reality is this virus has been present all along, and the changing environmental conditions have now conspired to increase the populations of the breed of mosquito that carries it!

Henry Hawk, can you give me an answer to my questions above?  I really do want to know how you can reconcile your loving god with one that lets abuse happen to me and countless others.

Also, are you willing to try the experiment?  I'd like to know your answer and if it's no, the reason behind it.

Abby, this is MY opinion.  This is what sustains me and my faith.  It works for me, so here it is...

I believe there is an ultimate goal to this life that has been given to us.....and that all of the pain and suffering will pale in comparison to what God has in store for those who choose to follow Him.  To understand love, there has to be pain, suffering, torment and even hatred.  God gave us free will.  We live in a world full of good and evil.  We all have choices to make.  I have chosen to accept this and that, as the Bibles tells us....No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him...This is just my 30 second story, but that is it in a nutshell.

Yes, I pray.  I have read my bible, and still do, when I feel the desire too.

I haven't been to Church on a regular basis since my Pastor passed away back in 2006. So YES, I have taken your experiment.  I must disagree with you on many levels.  I still pray and I still worship God in my own way.
Church for now, is not something I personally desire to attend.  But honoring God, with all my heart, mind and soul is still something I desire to do.  I am probably not real good at it most of the time....but I am content, in my way of worship.

It is MY belief, that everyone must find their own way of building a relationship with Him.

I cannot turn my back on Him as you suggest I do.  I am not made up that way.  I have experienced too much in my life, that I can only give Him credit for.  I will never turn my back on Him..no more than I would my wife, my kids or friends of mine.  My relationship with Him, is just as real as they are.

Now Abby, I am not knocking you one bit.  If you are content with your chosen lifestyle, then kudos to you.

Perhaps, I may wake up some day....DEAD...and I won't know any different.....but, I am banking that when that day comes, that God has prepared a place that we cannot conceive. Something referred to as Paradise...Jesus promised the thief who was hanging on a cross next to Him, that "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise"

I am more than happy to have any civil discussion on this topic anytime....

I don't understand why there has to be so much pain, suffering, torment and hatred in order to understand love.  I get where you are going with that, but it doesn't explain why a child would have to experience broken bones and extreme belittling and hatred so they could understand what love is.  What about a child that is abused to the point of death and the only thing they experienced was abuse?  They would have no concept of love.  And if I don't end up loving god, then I don't get to go to the place he prepared.  So then I get screwed in life today and the afterlife.  That's pretty shitty.

I don't think you did my experiment.  Did you stop doing all the things I listed?  Praying, worshiping, reading the bible, going to church.  That's the experiment.  Not doing any of those things, living life under your own control and being completely responsible for your own actions.  There's no difference!  My life is better as I no longer wait on a mythical being to solve my problems for me.  I wasted a lot of years doing that and had to rebuild my life because of it.

Just curious, does this include Muslims and Jews? What about the person who worships nature as a god? Or is it only with the Christian god?

And civil is good!
