The city argued the business of fortunetelling is a fraud and inherently deceptive...

But religion isn't?
Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

Bingo!

I was just getting ready to say that one can assume with almost certainty that the law originated at the hands of some religious zealots who viewed such activity as evil.  What people around those parts don't realize is that religion is equally guilty of perpetrating fraud on people.  Stories about the Sky Daddy are just as fraudulent as astrology and fortune-telling, and arguably more damaging to society as a whole, but they wouldn't dare try and legislate against that.

Moreover their religious "tome", the bible, is rift with tales of psychics and one could say this is further validation of the hypocrisy that is rampant amongst the zealots.

Yep!  Revelation is a book that's entirely dedicated to that kind of crap.  No offense to the pale horse referenced therein.

When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come and see!" I looked and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

— Revelation 6:7-8 NIV

Who is that peeking out of the clouds on the left there?

If you really look at the whole picture, you're just looking at clouds.  :music1:  Flows and flows of angel's hair and cotton candy everywhere.  :music1:  I looked at clouds that way.  :music1:   And everyone knows that it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summer time.  :music1:
