Could you, or some other xtian, please explain what is the reason for the situation in Uganda?

Again, I think, MOST Christians share the feelings as the below....

U.S. Christian Leaders' Statement on the "Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2009" Under Consideration by the Parliament of Uganda

Our Christian faith recognizes violence, harassment and unjust treatment of any human being as a betrayal of Jesus' commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves. As followers of the teachings of Christ, we must express profound dismay at a bill currently before the Parliament in Uganda. The "Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2009" would enforce lifetime prison sentences and in some cases the death penalty for homosexual behavior, as well as punish citizens for not reporting their gay and lesbian neighbors to the authorities. As Americans, some may wonder why we are raising our voices to oppose a measure proposed in a nation so far away from home. We do so to bear witness to our Christian values, and to express our condemnation of an injustice in which groups and leaders within the American Christian community are being implicated. We appeal to all Christian leaders in our own country to speak out against this unjust legislation.
In our efforts to imitate the Good Samaritan, we stand in solidarity with those Ugandans beaten and left abandoned by the side of the road because of hatred, bigotry and fear. Especially during this holy season of Advent, when the global Christian community prepares in hope for the light of Christ to break through the darkness, we pray that they are comforted by God's love.
Regardless of the diverse theological views of our religious traditions regarding the morality of homosexuality, in our churches, communities and families, we seek to embrace our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters as God's children worthy of respect and love. Yet we are painfully aware that in our country gays and lesbians still face hostility and violence. We recognize that such treatment degrades the human family, threatens the common good and defies the teachings of our Lord -- wherever it occurs.

I don't have answers to WHY some Religious groups act the way they do, but the bible is pretty clear on HOW we should take a stance on such views....and I think it is THIS that represents the vast majority of Christians....it just don't make GOOD press like the radicals do...

Just why is it do you think, that humankind has so fervently followed such an obvious lever created to control it? Namely religion. . . It is because deep down inside our spirits long for what comes after the earthly plane upon which we physically exist. Our spiritual selves suffer from a form of amnesia in that we cannot recall lucidly that from whence our spirits came prior to this physical existence. At least not in the case of the spiritual majority anyway. Some of us can go there too; in fact most of us have that ability but societal pressures have driven us to repress it out of fear of being ostracized by the controlling majority amongst us.

We know it is wonderful, we know it is a very different type of freedom and existence than that which our physical selves can conceive of. And it is our spiritual selves that cry out for something more than what we can experience within the physical world, and it is just that longing that drives us to be prone toward latching onto religion as a form of panacea with which to placate that longing and give it direction.

For centuries the masses have been conditioned increasingly by the onslaught of the human God(s); Buddha, Mohamed, Jesus Christ, Jim Jones, David Koresch. (sic?). Each of these religious figures has, or has had, its following and as humanity increasingly becomes disillusioned with the human Gods it leaves them open for the likes of some of these sects as their spiritual voice cries out for direction and freedom.

I find it quite amusing to observe humanity as it creeps and crawls about, seeking spiritual guidance from some outward source, and failing time and time again. Christianity is one of the more successful of these endeavors in that it has been providing humankind's greediest with a means to control the masses and bend them to their personal will for increasing levels of wealth and power, for centuries now.

Utilizing everything from statements claiming devine guidance toward interpretation of God's word, (according to humankind:written, edited, and assembled by same), to threats of eternal damnation in the fires and brimstone of hell; these men and women lead the masses about the world by the short hairs. And they go without so much as a bleat.

Instead of looking for some kind of deliverance from an external source, humanity would be much better served, and a damned sight more successful, by seeking this spiritual guidance from within; from the spirit that is the eternal portion of your current physical makeup. Listen to yourselves people, and stop listening to the wolves in the shepherds clothing claiming to be your deliverers! They are nothing more than your own doom personified, with no other purpose than to utilize you as a means with which to feed their own greed and further restrict your spiritual freedom via utilization of brow beating and fear mongering, just as they and their kind have done since humankind first became aware.

Seclude yourselves and learn to hear that inner voice that is your true spirit. Then learn to listen to it. Instead of spending Sundays at, and feeding, humankind's money machine, spend it within your own home, or at a secluded and quiet space where you can truly look within and hear yourself; and see the truth that has been there since the moment when your physical and spiritual selves were united within the context of that first breath.

It is not "God the Creator" that is sucking here, but rather I would submit it is the shortfalls of the "God of Humankind's Creation". And it is sucking because this God is very much like us and "his" words, written by HIS creator, (humankind), even go so far as to tell us that by saying "we" were created in his own image. This human God is a vengeful, bitter, greedy, and self-serving God. Those that know "him" are the Jerry F's, ET AL of the world that know how to utilize this human created tool to amass the personal wealth and power it was created to generate in the first place.

Back in the day, events like the LA Riots were a common thing, and they caused the rulers of humanity to experience the drizzles every time they transpired. They needed a way to control these things, and along came "God" and the "men" that could communicate with him. Some of these guys weren't dummies and they had already gone about teaching themselves about the sun, moon, stars; and a select few eventually learned to predict solar eclipses or other such celestial events.

Some of them had an idea and used these little secrets to demonstrate to the rulers that they indeed had the ear of the creator by making demands and threatening a divine event as a sign that unless they complied an even worse fate would await them. (Solar eclipse).
The rest is history, and if you don't believe it do a little research. While the kings and queens of those days may have been fat and sassy, when the robe wearers showed up they got real contrite until Ol Henry decided to test them. Successfully, among others.

Those robe wearing pigs eventually figured their power was rapidly leaving them and along came the sweet baby Jeebus hanging on the cross story and his followers; and with it an opportunity with which to build an even more and powerful tool with which to wield their power and control the masses; the bible.

Now, while I may have my timeline a little askew in the above I believe you get the gist of what I am saying here. God sucks because that "God" isn't the creator, it is the human God of human creation, and as such flawed.

Do I believe in a creator, higher being, or whatever terminology you'd like to use for it? Yes I do. But, not the one the world has created and uses to instill fear, forced compliance, and to amass personal wealth and power with. No friggin way! That God sucks!

Glad to hear the reassurance that MOST xtians feel that persecution of gays is wrong.

Still don't understand why conservative evangelicals created the situation in the first place.

It is the radical conservative evangelicals that causes folks like PH to HATE religion.....and, I got to admit, I understand why....

I just think it is ludicrious, to think that the Bible is some sort of elaborate scheme by some power seeking monks to control the masses....

Why?

First of all, I don't think man is smart enough to take 66 books, written by 40 authors, over a 1500 year span...with 3,000 prophecies...and put them all together, on their own wisdom and turn it into the ALL-TIME best seller and powerful enough to change lives of millions of people....without the help of Divine Intervention....to me, it is ludicrious....

Those principles are not unique to Christianity.

No, but they are part of being a Christian. When you say you reject everything that is Christian you are also rejecting these beliefs. You can hate the organized religion part, not believe in Jesus or God, but still believe some of the same things that Christians and many or most other religions believe. When you say everything Christian is bad you are in effect rejecting those principles, too. Anyway, that is my opinion. I don't think you or Dan are bad people and I will not try to convince you to join an organized religion or tell you are going to he** in a handbasket. I take exception when you paint all Christians and everything they do or believe in as bad.

You're also forgetting that particular set of books was written by folks who believed the Earth is flat.

Well it is scriptures that tell us that the Earth is suspended in space and it is round...... Job 26:7 "He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing."

Isaiah 40:22 "It is he that sits upon the circle of the earth"

The word translated "circle" here is the Hebrew word 'chuwg'.....which is also translated "circuit" or "compass".......which indicates something spherical or rounded.......not something that is flat or square.

The book of Isaiah was written sometime between 740 and 680 B.C.....It was scientist, several years later that concluded that the earth was flat ....it was scriptures from the Holy Bible, that inspired Christopher Columbus to sail around the world.

what folks in particular are you claiming that the earth was flat?....

Circles don't have corners, NN.
Isaiah 11:12
And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

and maybe if you can see to the "ends of the earth" from a "high" place, then it is flat, right, NN.

"The devil took him [Jesus] up into an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them."

"I saw a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.
The tree grew, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth."
- Daniel 4:10-11

AND, the quote from you above is the most ignorant thing you have ever said, or you are a terrible liar.  Columbus was inspired to sail West, not out of such mythology, but for gold and nothing more.  The whole "flat earth" bullshit was made up by Washington Irving, the same asshole that tried to paint G. Washington as a christian.  You need to either read more, or take some classes on history.  Suggest Loewen's "Lies My Teacher Told Me", first.  fuk.
