. . .or when the church starts encroaching upon government as it does here in Anderson and certainly to a much larger extent in Florence SC!

Maybe the title of the thread should be, "People Who Believe In An Invisible Man Living In The Sky Suck," because there ain't no god, ergo, no suckage.
Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

Now, why is this in the God Sucks topic?

As soon as you mentioned South Carolina, I knew.

Here's an example of exactly what I'm talking about:

From their website:

ChristianExodus.org was founded in November of 2003 in response to the moral degeneration of American culture, and the rampant corruption among the powers that be. The initial goal was to move thousands of Christian constitutionalists to South Carolina to accelerate the return to self-government based upon Christian principles at the local and State level. This project continues to this day, with the ultimate goal of forming an independent Christian nation that will survive after the decline and fall of the financially and morally bankrupt American empire. We have learned, however; that the chains of our slavery and dependence upon godless government have more of a hold on us than can be broken by simply moving to another State.

As many like-minded Christian activists pursue independent Christian living without relocating, the scope has expanded to promote "personal secession" though many and various tracks, wherever they can be implemented. The long process of disentanglement from idolatrous dependencies includes such practices of moving towards a home-centered economy, with intentional community, home-schooling, home-gardening, house churches, health-cost sharing, private exchange, unlicenced ministry, and any other way in which we might live free and godly lives in Christ Jesus, without prostrating ourselves to eat from the hand of the imperial magistrate.

The lot of those people are clearly nuts.

Kinda sounds like a hippy commune without the free love doesn't it?

My kids lived in SC and one of the things they were asked at the end of their job interviews and/or their first day on the job is what was their affiliation. The one who is Catholic got an Oh is response and the one who is Methodist got a I guess we can deal with that reaction to their answers. They both had very good jobs. They have since moved on to FL and VA to even better jobs, with no questions about their "affiliation".

But that kind of shit is illegal!  Regardless of how "core of the bible belt" they believe themselves to be, religious affiliation (or non-affiliation) has no place in the workplace.  It shouldn't be asked about, and shouldn't be discussed in the context in which you and Palehorse have described it.

That was exactly my point in relating the experience my colleague has been through, and what I told her. But they do it and get away with it in these areas and it is just plain wrong and they should be punished for it!

Why don't all those folks just do the rest of us a favor and kill themselves to be with jesus, directly, vice having to put up with "the magistrate" holding sway over them?  If they were real christians, they would drink the poison kool aid as in Jones Town, and be with their maker without any interference from "this here godless state".

Bingo!  But they won't because they're either:

1.  Too scared to do it.
2.  Too uncertain of their own beliefs to do it.
3.  Both.

It's all a bunch of bullshit regardless of how any of them try to segregate themselves from organized religion.  When it comes right down to it, most of 'em aren't that certain in their beliefs to to ahead an pull that trigger and trust in ole' Jeebus.
