The biggest problem I have with Christian doctrine is that get-out-of-jail-free card. "By faith alone." You can be the vilest, cruelist, most corrupt sonuvabitch on earth, have a death-bed conversion, and spend eternity in bliss. That's just wrong. Christianity teaches it followers there is no accountability.

By the same token you can be the most compassionate person in the world, giving all you have to better others, choosing poverty rather than turning a blind eye to suffering, working tirelessly to improve the lot of the unfortunate, yet go straight to hell if you have trouble swallowing that believing in Jesus is the only way to salvation.

I couldn't stand to spend eternity in a place with such screwed up values.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I would no more want to live in heaven with a god who would subject those he "loves" to an eternity of suffering than I would want to stay, all expenses paid, at a resort owned by Hitler.
Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

Do you simply not know what the word hypocrite means?
No, you simply need to think about what I said and who I was talking about.

I know exactly what you said and who you were talking about.  You were responding to an article about Kennedy being refused communion because of his stance on abortion.  Someone who, in the face of adversity, stands firm for that which he believes is not a hypocrite...quite the opposite.  Perhaps you should learn to read.

Just made a comment is all.  Nothing to do with the article actually.

Actually, along these lines, I think the Catholic church's stand on abortion would hold a lot more water if they had been as outspoken when the priests were molesting little boys as they are about Senator Kennedy.

Their stand on a lot of things would hold more water if that were the case. Good point.  Gonna have to give ya an A+ on that one.

Its the power thing pure and simple. In the dark ages folks believed it signaled eternal damnation to have such imposed upon them. Ol Henry VIII just started his own church when they tried that move on him. . . Wonder how such an action would be received in this day and age?

I told yah Henry started his own church!

Yup!  Ole' Henry got tired of Catherine of Aragon and the Poop at the time wouldn't annul the marriage.  :pope:    So ole' Henry goes :finger2: to the Poop, sets up his own church, makes himself the head of it,  gets rid of Catherine of Aragon, and marries Anne Boleyn.  Course he later said :behead: to her.

Why is it that all religions have such a corrupt history?
Ignorance and fanaticism are ravenous. They require constant feeding.

Why is it that all religions have such a corrupt history?

Because each one finds its roots in the struggle for control of the masses for the singular purpose of amassing personal wealth and power. . . And the centuries of pre-conditioning only makes it easier for those in control to initiate their plans. . .
