obama mccain debate:

The consequences of defeat would have been increased Iranian influence. It would have been increase in sectarian violence. It would have been a wider war, which the United States of America might have had to come back.

So there was a lot at stake there. And thanks to this great general, David Petraeus, and the troops who serve under him, they have succeeded. And we are winning in Iraq, and we will come home. And we will come home as we have when we have won other wars and not in defeat.

after this, obama went on about how we shouldn't have been in iraq in the first place...how he voted against it even when it wasn't popular...yadda yadda yadda.

what he SHOULD have said (in my opinion) is:

"I am ready to bring our troops home NOW, and honor thier sacrifices over the last six years in a conflict that has had NO defined victory parameters.  The sectarian violence will continue in Iraq whether we are there in the middle of it, or not.  Our efforts will be better spent increasing security at home, rather than providing a target abroad."

I agree.  I remember thinking during the debates that Obama missed several opportunities to put McCain away for good - and I didn't think Obama's continued use of "I agree" was a good debate tactic, but maybe he was trying to appeal to that side of the aisle.

I've read rumors that except for the candidates specific words, practically everything else was scripted and subject to contractual agreement between the parties beforehand.

Should that be true, one might discern why there wasn't a more determined debate with an easily proclaimed victor.

President Osama? U.S. election ballot misspells Obama's name

A typographical error on a New York county absentee ballot gives voters there the option of electing "Barack Osama" as president in the upcoming U.S. election, instead of Barack Obama.

The incorrect ballots, issued to hundreds of voters in Rensselaer County, were first spotted by the Times Union of Albany newspaper.

Local election officials said they regret the mistake. The one-letter typo evokes the name of Osama bin Laden, the notorious al-Qaeda leader said to be the mastermind behind the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.

"It's human error, it's very unfortunate," commissioners Edward McDonough told the Associated Press in a telephone interview. "It's an embarrassment to our office, obviously."

"We wish we could turn back the clock, but we can't."

When the elections office discovered the mistake, officials shredded the remaining "Osama" ballots and mailed correct versions to all absentee voters, who vote by mail rather than voting in person at a polling station.

Voters who received both versions will be allowed to send in either one and have it counted, McDonough said.

Obama spokesman Blake Zeff said the campaign is "glad officials are working to correct this error and we assume it won't happen again."

LOL.  well you do use the same hand to type both letters.  I do anyway.  But as I was reading it, I was thinking the same thing, the typesetter may have been trying to send a subliminal message, and it wasn't a typo after all.

you are banging your head against a wall with the race issue and comparing qualifications and record.  i understand that you feel that Obama must be twice as good to seem half as good compared to McCain, but that's not the case.   the reality is that Obama will never say "lower taxes for everyone! *not just the 95% of us...", or "no more abortions, ever!", or "guns for everyone!" or "war with everyone who opposes us doing whatever we feel like doing!".  these are the ONLY qualifications that the neocons need or want in a candidate, and they don't care if he's less qualified, less intelligent, less capable, or even if he has one foot in the grave.

but polling has been deemed an inacurate measure by the right.  i suspect as the data indicates failure.

so where are all the republicans shouting "the only poll that matters is nov. 4th"?

keep in mind that the "democratic congress with the lowest approval rating in history" as you like to point out were RE-ELECTED WITH SOME NEW FRIENDS TO PLAY WITH.
