I seem to be having difficulty explaining this elsewhere on the forums, so I will attempt to put my thoughts together here.

First, let me say that I am environmentally conscious.  The car I drive most often is a flex-fuel vehicle.  I recycle bottles, cans, paper, and anything else.  I keep my thermostat above 75 in the summer, and below 65 in the winter.  I hike out my trash.  I don't waste much of anything, least of all energy, and I believe that conservation is a good idea.  It may spare some trees, and keep some rivers and lakes cleaner, and the dolphins will hug me when they see me and all that.

There are a multitude of good reasons for being responsible with your usage of the materials we have.  I don't believe that global warming is one of them.

Fossil fuels are not being replenished, plastics degrade very slowly, and you can see the air in Los Angeles.  None of these facts are in dispute.  Global warming is.  The arguments seem to center around the amount and nature of the data collected with regard to global warming, and the fact that our global environment changes naturally.  Both good arguments.

So don't argue the global warming aspect.  That dog won't hunt.  Argue for cleaner air and water.  Argue for the development and use of alternate energy sources before we run out.  Argue for the next generation to be able to enjoy the things you do.

And maybe you'll get a "conservative" to consider "conserving".

Hey poopie head...I missed this one....and tend to agree with you except that environmentalism is basically a misconception by the democrats as something they only respect, but it is more of a republican issue ... you go back to Teddy Roosevelt and National Parks....the EPA which was started by Richard Nixon...and the vast majority of the regulations that strengthen how we protect the environment today were signed by GOP presidents...

What?!? I wish I'd have seen this sooner. Maybe "anti-environmentalism is more of a republican issue".
