Do you know I hated Dr. Seuss until I grew up and read it to the kids.

Kinda off topic, but while I'm thinking of it...Kimmi what's an average class size in your school/grade?

That is tough to answer.  Before going year round, the 4th grade team averaged between 25 - 29 a year.  This year we went year round and we had as few as 22 to as many as 27.  These numbers could go back up once all the lawsuits and rulings are final.

22 was Heaven to me!!  Only 22 report cards, 22 pieces of writing to grade, 22 projects to grade, I could buy 2 dozen whatevers and have enough!!!  Heaven!

Last night at my daughter's middle school orientation I found out the average class size is 33-37. That seems like a lot to me. Her elementary school class is in the low 20's, but obviously it's a smaller school. Her "class" will have a total of 400 students next fall. All of the 6th graders eat lunch at the same time. Can you imagine 400 students all trying to get lunch? Anyway, maybe because they rotate, that isn't considered a huge amount? They're trying a new program where the 6th graders are mostly kept segregated from the 7th and 8th graders. That way they take a babystep into the new school, get used to maneuvering it and are able to feel comfortable doing so and learning. Some of the classes will rotate none 3, 4 or all 7 classes. The kids that rotate all 7 will interact w/the older kids. The ones who don't rotate will only go to electives outside the classroom and the in betweens will rotate out to the "math college", "science college" and electives. They're setting up the middle school like a university. Each grade level gets to pick a university for their grade (PAC 10 - No Duke  :'( ) and they will be that university until they graduate from middle school. They adopt the colors, mascot and that university will serve as a "big sister/brother" to that class and sponsor different events at the schools for them. It sounds cool and a good way to get them college focused w/out forcing it down their throat. Although, they do have college prep courses, even on this level.

Anyway, sorry for the hijack. I'm excited for her and her new adventure, but I still can't believe my baby is a middle schooler!

That sounds very much like how middle school is run here.  The 6th graders are still walked to class.  They are placed in a "team" and go through school with that team until high school.  33 - 34 in a class really should be okay since they are probably placed by ability.  Good luck!  Middle school is a weird and wild ride!

I once asked a middle school principal the difference between a middle school and an insane asylum.  He didn't know.  Neither did I.

Puberty drives them mad.  Then as a cruel joke, menopause does it again.

this whole "start seeing motercycles" campaign has me pissed.

not just because i can't drive a motercycle (and put the kids where?), but because bikers choose a vehicle with zero rollover protection, then dodge and weave through traffic because being small and quick and agile is what driving a motercycle is all about.  but then blame ME when you get schmucked???

here's a thought: START SEEING BIG ASS TRUCKS!

it's ALOT EASIER TO SEE BIG ASS TRUCKS, and it's probably in YOUR best intrest, since if you do colide with one, he can HOSE OFF HIS GRILL and get on with his life, while you lie in traction for 7 months!

As a rider I take that campaign seriously. It never ceases to amaze me how people fail to see a brightly lit and loud motorcycle on a bright sunny day, and pull right out in front of you as if you aren't there. Even when you are observing the speed limit and all other traffic laws.

Why would a motorcycle require rollover protection when it is not designed to be rolled over?

As for the dodging and weaving, and general breaking of every traffic law on the books; I've seen those riders myself, and I too curse them. But they are no more prolific than the bad driving 4 wheelers and 18 wheelers out there. The only difference is when they make a mistake in judgment they'll pay a very heavy price for it. . . But then, that's what they get for driving like an asshole.

Now you know darned good and well if you drive a big assed truck, then the green people will publicly humiliate you over the fact that vehicle is not environmentally friendly. (I hate scraping those things off my friggin grill!)
