So it couldn't possibly be some dumb white trash idiot who doesn't get his kids vaccinated because he eschews science...must be some brown people causing it.  Tell us again how you're not racist?
There you go pulling the race card again.  Is that all you know to do when you can't contribute anything else?

Hum, seems as though sulfa drug and a cream for the itching did just fine for me and my 3 daughters when they had them.

I guess you know more than the Mayo Clinic.

Oh, for fuck sake...we're talking about a measles outbreak and he immediately starts blaming illegals with absolutely nothing to support that allusion.  What about that doesn't scream racist?
Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

Has anybody here read "The Marching Morons?"

:big grin:

I haven't, but I will now that you've mentioned it.  I think that sort of "reverse Darwinism," if you will, has been mentioned more than a few times around here.

Yes - it has been mentioned many times here. I read about the book recently and immediately thought of you guys.

The fact that they brought over other diseases with them, the outbreak is in Cal, and it started after the influx of so many of them. Think man, if there was such good medical care where they were and they aren't from poor countries why are they coming here? If they were white it would still be blamed on them so come off the racist shit.

Again, I'm not sure who you are trying to aim this at, but I am all FOR vaccines.  I do not doubt the scientist who have studied this.

I wasn't aiming that at anyone in particular.  I just saw it right after reading this thread and thought it was apropos.

Shocking!

Then you made a regrettable comment ....

If we would have closed off our boarder, I bet we wouldn't be having this conversation right now.... ;)

(BTW, I think I deserve credit for not jumping all over the "boarder" thing!)

Since when is measles such a huge threat anyway?

Of course as these things usually go, we went off on tangents now and then and here we are ...

When I was a kid measles was just part of growing up and not considered dangerous unless let get out of hand by not treating it properly, aspirin, (that's all there was then for fever), bed rest, lotion for the itching, and sulfa drugs.  Now if let go to go in or get in your ears that was a different story.  There was also gamma globulin shots one could take to lessen the severity of both measles and chicken pox.  As a matter of fact when my kids got both I took the two who didn't have it yet for a shot and they both had a very light case, in fact they hardly broke out at all with either measles or chicken pox and barely any itching at all. As an adult both can be more dangerous though if you didn't get them as a child and are exposed so I agree with possibly taking the shot as an adult.

Okay, I sometimes get in to big of a hurry, and I don't think about the proper spelling of a word or two.... :spooked: :-[

BUT,

With that being said, I still stand behind my stance, if we closed off our borders ( ;) ) and not allow ANYONE to roam our nation, and I will add, keep better track of who comes into and leaves this country, including our own citizens, who may be carrying diseases to and fro other countries.  Remember the Ebola scare we recently had?

Medicine wasn't very advanced in the 19th century.
