I am too and have been for years. But. . . I'm less than pleased with how much these phones are starting to cost these days; all of them. The original reason I went cellular and cut the cord was over the cost of the landline. At the time the cost was comparable, initially but eventually the landline was more than the cell, so I cut the cord.

Now, it's the other way around and just to get into a new cell phone for my wife and myself will cost us a grand or more between the cost of the phones and activation fees. And then the plans are more than I am paying right now, by a significant amount. Just making things questionable . . .

Oh joy! I get to replace the god damn water heater tomorrow; and we have NO friggin water until I do so!

Came home to a puddle of water in the garage. I didn't think much of it since it has been raining so much. I thought it was water off the car. . . WRONG!

I walked into the utility room and splash, splash splash. . . The bottom dropped out of the god damn thing and water was fucking everywhere. . . I just spent 3 hours cleaning that crap up. And oh boy! The damned shut off for the water supply does not fully shut off the water, so I had to shut the water off at the main. So no fucking water. . .

This damned house is 9 years old. We have had a water softener on the supply since day 1. Lot of good that crap did. The mineral buildup is what ruined the heater. I can tell because of all the crap that it puked out when it went. . . deposits. . . I swear . . . I could slap the snot out of someone right now. . .

Oh. . . $900.00 for the new heater. . . And that's with me doing the work. . .

They installed a 40 gallon in this place when we moved in. I'm putting a 50 in to replace it though. 4 BR house with 3 full baths so the capacity is needed.

Why in hell would you put in a $900 water heater.       There is no water heater that is worth $900, they will leak too.    You can put it in by yourself for less than $400  buying the copper or plastic fittings and tools to put it in.  50 gallons is good enough and 5yr warranty is good enough.  If the 5 year model breaks in less than 5 years they will give you another one.

Sorry PH, have you thought about going tankless on the water heater, I think is what it is called. Friend has one and they always have hot water.

As "me" said, Guess you haven't priced them lately.

I ended up with a 50 gallon model that I found at Loews for just under 600 bucks with my military discount. And this is with me doing the work myself. I already own the tools to do the work; including the Pex. I've been at this for a number of decades now so I'm not paying anybody to do what I can do myself.

That being said, it started out alright, until it came time to haul that old unit out. That SOB weighed a TON, and I had it strapped to a dolly to move it. I thought I was going to bust a nut getting it out into the garage. My dolly is a 4 wheel unit that you can lay down, which is what I did once I got it into the garage. And I found out why it was so heavy.

I had left the drain open all night, but it was 3/4 of water anyway as it would not empty. Until I turned in onto its side and it began to spew. I just rolled it out to the curb and let it drain. Then I set it upright out there. Have to call the trash haulers to come out and get the damned thing. . .

I got it all plumbed in water wise, then let it fill while I ran the gas line. I chose to build a new one rather than re-use the old one. Safer that way. I tested it for leaks then fired that bastard up. I have hot water now.

Sorry PH, have you thought about going tankless on the water heater, I think is what it is called. Friend has one and they always have hot water.

I actually investigated this but decided against it. Due to the square footage of my home, and the fact that 2 of the 3 bathrooms are a good distance from the location of the unit, I would have had to have bought and installed boosters for the 2 upstairs baths. All told, with electrical supplies, the main unit and the two boosters, and the additional materials for plumbing everything in, it would have been right at 2k to go tankless.

Now I'm not a tightwad and I would have really liked to have converted, but it would have required a bit more time than I have right now to install the damned thing; and I'm not paying someone a kings ransom to do what I can do myself. And going another day without a shower was not something I wanted to put my wife through.  For my sake and hers.  :icon_twisted:

No I haven't, the last one I replaced is eight years old and going strong.  It is also a 5 year warranty.  If it go out tomorrow I figure I am ahead as far as it cost.

Last time I priced them before this was 9 years ago. Prepare yourself when you have to get another one. Sticker shock is fairly common. . .

There are also less replaceable parts now so if it goes you pretty much have to buy a new one instead of being able to replace a burner or control. 8 to 10 yrs ago they still had some of the older ones on the shelves so you could still luck out and get one of them and I would assume they are gone from the shelves now.
