A curiosity question -

when you encounter public safety personnel (police, firefighters, etc.) so you thank them?

If not, do you thank military personnel?

If so and you don't think public safety personnel, why not? What's the difference?

I thank all of them when circumstances afford me an opportunity to do so without intrusion upon what they are doing. If I am engaged within a personal greeting, or just a common courtesy acknowledgement I frequently use that as an opportunity to thank them for their service.

I even thank the city service workers for a job well done, (water, sewer, electrical), when the situation warrants it. Even if I have to relay that thank you via the mayor.

Why? Their efforts protect what is most valuable to me; my family, their quality of life, and their safety. If they did not do what they do, I would have to somehow. If they do not protect our liberty and freedom, then we would have to. . .

I know a lot of police, deputies, state troopers, fire personnel and paramedics so I thank them plus I thank the military personnel also! It may be there job but they are protecting and serving us so why not thank them!

Do you thank the men who plow the snow.  Do you thank the men who pick up your garbage.  NO!  All of these people and the safety personnel and our military service are doing the job of their choice and they are paid to do it.  If you want to thank someone, thank the people who were drafted into the service of their country.  They had no choice.  :flag:

I thank them all when I have the chance, including trash pickup people, mail persons and office workers (unless they are really rude  :)).

Yes, I thank this who plow the snow, the mail people and the garbage people! The number of people who were drafted is dwindling but I thank all military personnel!! Regardless if they are doing a job they chose, they deserve our thanks!

Well, we're getting it here in the D.C. metro area!  Our forecasters predicted it, but when we woke up this morning to light rain and warmer temperatures, thought they were wrong again. But it started snowing here (about 10 AM and has at times showed down but never completely stopped. Looks like we have about 5 inches right now.

The birds knew it was coming -- they were out by daylight. When it snows like it has today, I throw bird seed on top of the snow. It's fascinating to watch them and 2 or 3 squirrels and a chipmunk. The birds, especially the sparrows, know where the food is, even under the snow, and dig little holes by moving their feet around, to get to it.

It was 60 on Tuesday and then the bottom fell out! It rained all night and then again yesterday, and then started freezing rain, sleet and snow!

Nope, I hate snow and don't even go outside in the stuff. I should have said anywhere between 10-12 inches of snow. It was hard to measure it accurately with the drifts but it was 8  inches off our steps so we figure it was about 2-4 inches in the yard!
