Tis the season.....Hurricane Ike from 2008 and the Great Storm of 1900 BOTH started in Cape Verde.

I don't think that is entirely true....but some of those are mentioned according to this website....

Jeanne formed from a tropical wave, becoming a tropical depression on September 13 near the Leeward Islands.
Katrina was a tropical depression formed on August 23 about 200 miles southeast of Nassau in the Bahamas.
Camille was formed just west of the Cayman Islands.

Some just says they were formed over the west coast of Africa...

but Hugo, Francis, Ike was, according to this website, formed in Cape Verde.

Not trying to be argumentive, just got interested after you posted it, and googled it and came up with this info.  Pretty interesting actually.

I'm going to have to look them up individually now.  Any hurricane, regardless of where it attains hurricane status, which originates with a wave off of Africa is a Cape Verde hurricane. 

I'll look them up later though.
