I didn't ask who started it.  I asked what you were trying to prove.
Olias just won't let something drop actually.  He made and off hand comment about Columbus and I made an off hand reply and it just kind of mushroomed from there.  He really needs to lighten up ya know.  If I ignore him he starts that crap about how I am an idiot and won't reply and if I reply he starts with the  nit picking everything I say soooooo I just do whatever I have time for and some days I have time to come back at him and some days I don't.  If he keeps crackin' off about the Columbus Viking thing I'll keep crackin' back too as time allows.  Now if he wants to change the subject and get back on track and take my comment as intended like I took his all is good.

Actually, you are.

Fact-Checking the Obama Campaign's Defense of its $716 Billion Cut to Medicare

Seriously?  You're using an article from a magazine whose demographic is clearly exactly those people who would most benefit from tax increases on the middle class to support further tax cuts for the wealthy to support a point?  You know what?  I hope Romney and Ryan do get elected because your barely middle-class ass will suffer the worst and you deserve it!  It won't affect me in the least...actually, it'll probably benefit me.

This sucking Democrat wants the Golden Tax Evader, Willard Mitt Romney tax records for the last ten, 10 years.  I'll give Mitt a fair trail and after we read them and see what he has done to evade taxes we'll will hang the thief.  :hanged:

Why should I let it drop when I feel I have a duty to expose the ignorance you so gloriously represent?

I'll put this all together in yet another desperate attempt to get you to understand logical and critical thinking.

We were discussing the difference between fact and opinion.

Quote from: Locutus on August 17, 2012, 01:24:26 PM
It's a perfectly valid example.  Why would such an example not extend to other opinions that are flat out lies?

President Obama isn't an American citizen.  That's an opinion; it's also a flat out lie.

President Obama is a Muslim.  That's an opinion; it's also a flat out lie.

President Obama wants to take away our guns.  That's an opinion; it's also a flat out lie.

Shall I carry on?  I'm still shaking my head.  PLEASE tell me you're not as dense as you appear to be.

And then you countered with the nonsensical statement ...

Quote from: me on August 17, 2012, 01:26:16 PM
All I will say on that is I went to the library and checked some things out where they couldn't be changed.  Did you?

Quote from: me on August 17, 2012, 02:24:58 PM
Events that just aren't there any longer. have been removed, for cross checking, events that have changed from what really happened, meanings of certain words.  You know, the insignificant things that could make a difference at some point in what you think and whose "opinion" or "fact"  you chose to go with.

To which I replied with an example of things in the library that HAVE changed.

Quote from: Olias on August 17, 2012, 02:29:24 PM
Oh ... like the 'fact' that Columbus "discovered" America?

Then YOU went off posting lie after lie, changing your story as you went .....

First you claimed it was Amerigo Vespucci who discovered America ....

Quote from: me on August 17, 2012, 02:43:06 PM
No, in all actuality he did not Amerigo Vespucci did.  Although Columbus was here first he thought he was in Asia and Vespucci is the one who realized it was not Asia which is why it is north and south America and not north and south Columbus, it is named after Vespucci.

After I pointed that even the Vikings beat him here and that the first Native Americans were from Asia, you once again reveled in your ignorance ...

Quote from: me on August 17, 2012, 04:37:35 PM
They didn't land here but were just the first to make it out and it was 500yrs, not 20,000, before Columbus or Vespucci

Then you went off on a series of posts that even disproved ("They didn't land here") what you had posted about the Vikings.

You are truly an embarrassment to humankind.

There are differing opinions as to who was first if you'd bother to check further so it just depends on which one a person chooses to go with and I just posted what I found which is what a discussion is about.  If you found different info so be it.  I knew Columbus didn't discover America and from there it's open for discussion.  I did not dispute what you posted or call you an idiot because it was different from what I posted I just posted info I found.  You, like Troll just like to argue and that's unproductive and totally useless.  I mistakenly fall into it sometimes and argue back which is also a waste of time because you seem to enjoy name calling so much and can't just say "this is what I found."

As far as the library thing goes I stress first editions and not revised editions which are changed.

If everyone seen things the same we would all wear the same clothes, run our households the same, drive the same cars, and live in the same climates.  If I chose to always agree with someone who had a different opinion than I do then I would be a sheeple but I don't so therefore I think for myself.  May not always agree with the next person but it's how the world works and I can accept that and you need to learn how to accept that.  Bullying and putting me down is not going to change anything like it might with some so you might as well give it up.  You go ahead and have your fun if you must but your juvenile behavior is very unbecoming.  If you can't see that then I feel sorry for you.

You keep stressing "first edition" versus "revised editions". Is it possible that the revisions were made to  make the information more accurate? Or detailed? Or perhaps the revisions had nothing to do with content at all? Without knowing specifically why the revisions were made your point is....well...pointless.

Opinions are useless without facts to back them up. Why can't you understand this? When you are presented with incontestable evidence that Asians were the first people to populate this continent 20,000 year ago, all you can do is revert to posting articles on HOW the Vikings landed here.

But then you claimed that Amerigo Vespucci discovered America. That is false and certainly not open for discussion.

Ignorance. The "first editions" claim Columbus discovered America. Now we know that isn't true.

You ARE a "sheeple." You have absolutely no ability to separate opinion from fact.

In that case you check the notes and see what was used to back up the revision you don't just take it for granted that the revision is correct.

Wow.

A real piece of work -- but.

Serves as a wonderful classroom example of convoluted and confused thinking.

Students enjoy dissecting it and pointing out the fallacies.

Many actually refuse to believe it is real, and make accusatory statements about the character being a fictional creation.

Ignorance and fanaticism are ravenous. They require constant feeding.

What does it matter in the overall scheme of things anyway?  Why make such a big deal out of an offhand comment that had nothing to do with the topic anyway but was intended as an off handed reply to the off handed smart ass remark that was made.  I am discovering that liberals/left wingers are the most rude, intolerant, egotistical, and hateful when disagreed with people I have ever ran across.  I'm not saying any one of you wouldn't give someone the shirt off your back if you thought they needed it worse than you did but to disagree with you is a cardinal sin any way you put it. Continue to put me down if it makes you feel better about yourselves but keep in the back of your mind that I may be the one having the last laugh in the long run.
