Title: The New Kitten !!!!
Post by: Dexter Morgan on April 16, 2008, 08:51:44 PM
This thread is going to be about my new kitten. We don't know what sex it is, because it's only about a month old. I found this kitten in my yard a week or so ago. It had a severely abscessed hind leg. My husband took it to the vet the next morning. The vet put it on antibiotics ,and instructed us to water pack it 4 times a day. Water packing is holding the leg under warm running water to clean it. After a day or so, it wasn't improving so we took it back. On the follow up visit last Saturday, the vet said it wasn't improving and gave us some options. The first one was amputating the leg for $120.00. The second was doing some diagnostic tests, somewhere in the range of $500. We chose the tests. We didn't want to remove the leg, if there was any possible way to save it. Monday, they did x rays, bloodwork and a biopsy. The vet then put a drain in it. So, now we have to clean, and dress the wound twice a day. I must say my husband amazes me ,because he takes charge of the situation, and does everything while I hold the kitten. I have to say that it is extremely hard ,to keep a month old kitten still enough to bandage the leg. I called for the test results today, and they're not back yet. Tonight, when we changed the bandage the drain came out. I hope it doesn't have to have another one put in. Hubby and I discussed it tonight, and we don't think the leg can be saved. It's pretty bad. We try to stay positive, but that's hard to do. I've been nervous waiting to find out the results. I've never dealt with an amputee before. I don't know what I'm in for. The kitten is sooo little, I can't even imagine what it will be like. I'm hoping to get pictures up here soon, so everybody can see what he/she looks like.

I hope so too, it seems to be fiesty, and reasonably strong too. It's just sooooo little, I hate to see it go through life without its leg. It fits in the palm of my hand. When it wants its bottle, it wants it yesterday LOL!!! It's a little touchy about being made to wait.  :spooked:  When it first wakes up, it wails until I get the bottle ready. Before bed I prepare the bottles, and put them in the fridge, so we don't have total chaos, if it wakes up in the middle of the night. I just add hot water, and it's ready to go. I hope I find something out soon, waiting is the worst part.

Well, the test results are still not in. I have an appointment at the vet's office at 8:00 tomorrow morning. The drain fell out of it's leg last night. I hope to God that we find something out tomorrow. I'm soooo stressed out it is taking its toll on me.

It looks pretty bad. To be honest, I think it will have to be amputated. I'm bracing for that. I just don't know how it's all going to go. And on top of everything else,I think Dudley is showing symptoms of Feline Leukemia. I think he has a fever tonight, and he has thrown up twice tonight. My God what's next?  :'(

I get depressed when this stuff hapens. It's one thing after another. For a while things will be going great, and then the bottom drops out. Yesterday, was the first anniversary of our cat Pig Pen's death. It's hard to believe he's been gone a year.

Well, it's 8:19 am and I just got back from the vet's office. They are doing an emergency amputation this morning. The infection is spreading into his hip, and lower body. If they don't take the leg now, the kitten will die. I am soooo freaked out!!! The kitten is coming home TONIGHT!!!! I'm not prepared for this!!!! My Hubby is freaking out too. We're dumbfounded, we figured the leg would have to be amputated, but we didn't know it was going to be today. I've never dealt with an amputation before, this is new territory for me. I called my friend ,and she said it's not that big of a deal, and there isn't much that I have to do. She's going to be on stand by tonight, in case I need help. She is a veterinary assistant. So, that makes me feel a little better. I have a three hour shift at work today, which is a real pain in the ass. I hope I can keep it together long enough to do my shift. I'm really bummed about all of this. I'm worried the little thing might not be strong enough to survive this. The vet is one of the best in our area, so I'm confident he knows what he's doing. I'll try to post an update tonight.

I'm just soooo freaked out. We knew it would probably have to be amputated ,but we didn't know it would be all of a sudden like this. The vet looked at it for a minute, and said 'wow, look... the infection is spreading up its body." It's little belly was awful pink, and he said its upper leg was bruising. It's a good thing I set up the appointment for today. They wanted me to wait to take it in again until Monday. I insisted that they see him today...... boy am I glad I did that!!! It probably would have died before Monday. Sometimes, persistence really pays off in a big way.  When it comes to my kids, I can really be a pest LOL!!! I want the best for my babies, and dammit they are gonna deliver LMAO!!!  I'm scared though... I figure just because they take the leg, doesn't mean the little fart is out of the woods. What if the infection gets in its blood stream? I soooo hope I'm up for this. After all of this, I'm going to be crushed if it dies.  :'( I've got to brace myself for that though. What a horrible day.   Now, I've got to get ready for work, and hope everything holds up alright until I get off at 2.

I wish I had your confidence PIYA.  I just hope I can handle everything OK. I hope it isn't in a lot of pain, I can't stand to see animals suffer. I do have some pain medication for it, it hasn't needed any yet, but I got some in case its leg started to hurt. So, at least I have that. The dosing is really tricky on an animal that small. They can only have a small drop, or it could kill them.  :spooked: We'll just have to see what happens.

Well, the surgery  was a success so far. The poor little thing looks like half a kitten. When I first saw it I almost cried. I did cry on the way home.  :'( It looks soooo pathetic. It is alert and the major concern was getting it a bottle ASAP!!! It drank a full bottle of formula when we got home. Right now it's sleeping. It wants to be held constantly, so that's what I'm going to do. Tonight, I'm going to light the fireplace and veg with the kitten. I was very surprised to find out, they stapled it instead of suturing it. I'd say there are probably 15 or 20 staples. We go back a week from tomorrow to have the staples out. I guess I worried myself over nothing. It seems normal it's just missing a leg.

Dex, I have to tell you this story, because I couldn't help but think of you and your kitty today.

I went to the laundromat to do my laundry and I saw this very shaggy...huge...kinda intimidating looking all black dog standing at the window, staring in. I was in love. :smitten: A man in the laundromat walked out and had a torn cup w/water in it, which he sat on the sidewalk for her. When she turned to go to the water, I realized she was missing a leg.

I'm thinking she's a stray so I walked outside and started talking to the man who gave her water and told him that was a nice thing to do and she attracted my attention too. He said, "She's my dog. Her name is Bella."  Then he went on to tell me the story. He had just put his lab to sleep about 10 years ago. He'd had her for 15 years and obviously was very sad that she'd gotten so ill w/tumors that he had no other option. He said that he was in NO way whatsoever ready for another dog. It had only been a few weeks. He'd gone to the laundromat and while he was sitting there waiting for his laundry to wash, he heard this wimpering. He looked around and didn't see anything. He said that he actually thought it was his mind playing tricks on him and that it was his deceased dog. He went to put his laundry in the bottom dryer and in the dryer was this little black pup with half closed eyes looking up at him. He said that it wasn't even old enough to be weaned yet and it's eyes hadn't opened all the way. He picked it up and it's leg fell away from the body. He took it home and then the vet. Bottle fed her until she was old enough to eat food. She's now a little over 100 lbs and that was 9 years ago. The leg had to be amputated. Obviously they think it had been ran in the dryer, but the cartilage and tendons had been torn so badly that the leg couldn't be repaired. It took her a little longer to learn to walk, but she's definitely healthy and happy.

So there you go! A sign. Everything is going to be great for the little fella.

Awww... what a sweet story. I totally understand about the guy thinking it was his dog that died. I still think I hear Mugsy sometimes. It's sickening what people do to torture animals. You hear and read about stuff like that everyday. It's a sad, sad, world we live in.  :'(

OK guys here's an update......

Me, yes that's a very good sign.

PIYA.... it's good to be optimistic to the extreme. It means you have hope of a good outcome in every situation.

The kitten is doing AWESOME!!! No troubles whatsoever. No pain, and the staples look like they're holding really good. The kitten and I went to sleep at about 11:30 last night, and we slept until 6:00am, until the other cats woke us up wanting their canned food.   So, at 6:00 the cats got fed, the kitten got a ba ba, and Mom had a carmel candybar, and a glass of milk. We went back to bed, and didn't wake up until 10:15 when Hubby got home. If not for that we may have slept on through LOL!!!

I can't believe how great the little stinker is doing. We still can't figure out the sex though LOL!!! The kitten is actually zipping around the house, and playing. The other cats are being nice to it, where as they were growling, and snarling at it before. I'm really pleased with everything. I had myself sooo worked up yesterday, that I had a horrible stomach ache. I'm just glad we're seeing progress. The little turd acts like there is nothing different with its body. In actuality, that leg was a hindrance, and it had a lot of pain with it there.

I'm really happy about it. Everything is still going smoothly. I think it actually feels better now that the leg is gone. Infection, can affect all sorts of functions in the body, add pain to it, and it can really do a number on it. I feel very lucky that the little fart survived the surgery, and is making progress. I'm trying my best to spoil it rotten.

Well, the kitten and I slept through the night, until 6:00 am when the other cats wanted their canned food.  I sound like a broken record don't I? LOL!!! Last night, I noticed the incision was a little bit pink around it. They told me I could swab it lightly with peroxide, so I did. Man, that was not a GOOD TIME!!!  The kitten cried, and squirmed around frantically.  I think it must have hurt. I blew on it, like you do when you use alcohol, and that seemed to help. Right now, I'm worried that it's going to get infected. I've been keeping the incision as clean ,and as dry as possible. We may take a trip over to the vet's tomorrow, just to be on the safe side.

Yes it was. The incision looks pretty good today, the hard part is keeping it clean. Last night we had a doo doo problem, as in kitten made a poo poo, and kind of fell with it's whole body in to the doo doo / poo poo LOL!!! So, we had a partial bath at 2:00 this morning. At least, we are sleeping through the night, which is good. Infact, we slept A LOT this weekend. Mama, was worn out,and kitten was too. Oooops.... somebody just woke up, and wants a ba ba.

I really don't know. It's been a little more fussy, but seems to be doing good. It likes exploring the house, and loves to sit behind the refrigerator. I've been playing phone tag with the vet. He called and left a message about the results of he tests we had done. He told me to call him back. When I got the message, I called him back, and he was on another line.  So, I've been waiting for 2 hours ,to hear back from him. I want to take a nap soooo bad, but I know he's going to call me as soon as I doze off LOL!!!! I hate phone tag.

I better check on it to make sure everything is OK....well, everything is OK. I woke it up and we had a bottle, and my Mom called to see how the kitten is doing.  Now, it's time to explore. OMG.... Iam scared to death.. there's something wrong with the kitten. It woke up a few minutes ago, and it can't breathe. It feels like it's on fire, and the incision is bright pink. I put in a call to the vet, but he hasn't gotten back ahold of me. OMG... the kitten has been doing great. I cannot believe this. I don't know what to do. I suppose after all we've been through I'm going to lose it. I can't even take the thought of that I really can't. What am I going to do?  :'(

It's just laying on the floor. I put it on a cool wet wash cloth. It seems like it's breathing a little better now. I'm going to be waiting on the doorsteps of the vet's office at 7:00 am. It's ridiculous that he couldn't at least call me back. They get a premium price for emergency visits. They give you numbers of emergency clinics, but both of those are hours away. I've never driven in Peoria, and wouldn't have a clue as to how to get there. I wouldn't want to be in Peoria by myself in the middle of the night anyway. Waaaaay too much gang activity. If I was to take a wrong turn, it would not be good. I guess I'm going to have to play the waiting game.  I just hope to God that tomorrow isn't too late. The kitten and I are headed for the recliner, for what will probably be a very long night. I have the early shift tomorrow, so it ought to be interesting, trying to get the kitten took care of, and being to work by 9:30. Good Times

Here's a quick update..... the kitten is better this morning. We didn't sleep much last night. The vet called me at 6:00 this morning. It's 8:09 and I'm leaving in a few minutes to drop him off at the vet's office, and I'm going straight to work from there. The vet is going to give him some antibiotic shots, and change the ones he's on now. He could have aspiration pneumonia from the bottle? The breathing is fine this morning. As soon as I get home, I'll post an update.

We just got home. The kitten is fine. It's a boy!!!! He does have a little infection, but nothing serious. He hasn't coughed since last night, and the vet said not to worry. He gave him an antibiotic shot, and put him on more oral antibiotics. After work tomorrow, I have to take him for another shot. The vet says he looks real good. I think I freak myself out at every little symptom I see LOL!!! My track record has been piss poor to say the least. I left 2 bottles of formula with him, I didn't want him going without it all day. They never gave him a single drop.  All they had to do was add warm water to the bottle, and feed him. It takes maybe 5 minutes. I questioned them about it,and the gal says" yeah I think somebody gave him a bottle."  I didn't like that. He shouldn't have been made to go without a bottle all day.

Glad to hear the kitten is going to be alright.  I too would think someone could have taken the time to feed the little guy.  I'll bet he did some big time eating when you got him home.

He was starved to death. He took a whole bottle. I worry about him going for long periods of time without fluids. It wouldn't take much for a kitten that little to get dehydrated. They can die if they get dehydrated. I suppose I worry too much, but the little stinker has been through soooo much, I want him to be healthy at all costs.

I've decided to name him Dexter. Not after my screen name, but after the real deal. The real Dexter.  :smitten: He's doing really good today. I changed his appointment for his shot for tomorrow. So, tomorrow after work I'm taking him in. I hope to find out, if the staples are still coming out on Saturday. It's a good thing the vet's office is only 10 minutes from home. I've been catching the kitten, and myself coming, and going LOL!! He is such a little doll. When he loses sight of me he bawls. If I go in to the bathroom ,and shut the door, he stands outside the door, and cries his little heart out.  :smitten:

He's smart too. I had decided to wait to liter box train him, because of what he's been through. Well, he trained himself. He goes right in to the bathroom, and goes in the box. I've never even shown him where it is. I think I may have a kitten prodigy!!!!  He has also started to groom himself too. That's amazing because most of the time ,the Mommy cat teaches them that. He has learned it on his own. I'm a proud Mama, he is quite a little guy.  :smitten:

I just got home from taking Dexter for his shot. It went fine. He now weighs 13 oz. He has gained an ounce since Tuesday. The vet says it's time to start him on solid food. I suppose I'll feed him kitten chow. I'm not taking the ba ba away just yet though. If he needs it as a crutch to get him through all of this, then he will have it. I hope to get some pictures of him this weekend, if I can get Hubby motivated to help me with it.

I told Hubby tonight that I named the kitten Dexter, and he rolled his eyes at me LOL!!! The girls at the vet's office thought it was cute. The past 3 nights Hubby hadn't seen the kitten, because he was asleep when Hubby got ready for work. Tonight, I woke the little stinker up, and Hubby had a chance to hold him,and play with him. He says he can tell he's gained weight.

He's doing real good tonight. I had to work over a couple of extra hours today. One of our managers (the one I do like ) asked me, if I'd stay over for her, because her Dad was having heart surgery this afternoon. I could never say no to something that serious.  So, when I got home the little stinker was starving. So, the first thing I did was get the boy a ba ba.  Tomorrow is the big day.... the staples are being taken out at 10:45 in the morning. Hubby is going with us. I'm glad because I will probably want to hold the kitten on the way home. He might not feel too good, after they take them out. I'm taking a warm ba ba with us for the ride home. Maybe, it will take the edge off LOL!!! Maybe, I better take a nerve pill to take the edge off for me LMAO!!! I'm sure we'll be fine, I just hope if the kitten cries, I don't cry with him. I have a tendency to cry when I see animals suffering. It's OK though.... the vet knows how I am LOL!!!  He knows I'm a Super Freak when it comes to my animals.

I may have said this before, but when I come back, I wanna be one of Dex's cats.

Dex, I've had two experiences w/staples. Once after my daughter was born C-Section and the nurse came to my house to take them out. I felt nothing...at all. IIRC it was about a week after she was born.

Then my daughter had a collision w/a set of metal staircase to a slide and busted her little head open. OMG! I'll never forget rushing to the hospital and to the back of the ER and she's chatting and laughing away w/the nurses. Then she saw me and busted out crying. So, they had to put the staples in and she held my hand, but I had to look away because I was crying and I didn't want her to see me. I just knew it was going to hurt. When I look back she's perfectly fine and the nurse is laughing at me. LOL Anyway, taking them out was a snap. I stopped back by the hospital a week or so later on the way to the park. It took 5 minutes. She didn't even flinch.

So, hopefully, it'll be that easy for the kid.

Baby Dexter did great at the vet's today!!! Mommy did too LOL!!! He only cried once, one of the staples had scabbed over. He was more upset with being held down than anything. It only took a few minutes. I had a warm ba ba in the car, and boy I'm glad I packed it along with us. As soon as we got in the car, I whipped it out,and he almost drank the whole thing. We had a few errands to run, so I stayed in the car with him, while Hubby stopped at several different places. I'm soooo proud of him!!!!  I'm going to post pictures of him either tonight or tomorrow!!! Hubby is going to help me with that. Then everybody can see what a doll he is.  :smitten: I asked the vet when he can have a bath, and she said it's OK to do it now, but I'm not suppose to scrub the incision, or get any soap on it. I'll probably wait a couple more days to bath him. He is such a good boy.  :smitten:

I don't know when we'll get them taken LOL!!! We went to the Quad Cities today to pick up a used Corolla for Hubby. He's been spending $175 a week on gas back and forth to work. He had to find something cheaper to drive.

I was up a lot last night. Baby Dex had the diarrhea. I'd just doze off,and I was awoken, by the sounds of explosive diarrhea ,coming from his carrier LOL!!! So, each time that happened, I'd take him out, clean him up, and change his bedding. I know I did that at least 4 times. He's better today. I'm trying to get him to take some canned food, but he isn't interested in anything, but his bottle. I've gotten crafty, by putting the canned kitten food ,in the bottle with his formula. He doesn't even know it's in there.  :sneaky: I also tried some Kitten Chow moistened in formula, but he didn't take the bait LOL!!! He is absolutely spoiled rotten. I think he's gonna be a suck tit.  :spooked: Nothing wrong with a boy who loves his Mama.

Then comes the smell !!! :spooked: Then I wonder to myself..... Oh, I hope to God he isn't smeared from head to paw in it!!!  Of course something like that always draws the attention of the other cats.  They stand there staring wondering.... what the hell has happened? Yeah, that's the worst. Up until now he has only had the bottle. The vet told me to start him on canned food, and slowly wean him off the bottle. I bought some 'Iams' canned kitten food, and he has shown no real intrest in it. This morning at breakfast, I gave him a bite of egg yolk ,and he fell in love. He ended up eating almost half an egg. So, I guess that's a start. He will have to get used to he regular food, because I don't feed table scraps to my pets. I may give them a little bite here and there, but table food is horrible for animals. With my diet he'd be dead in months LOL!!! I'm a serious junk food junkie.

I'm having trouble getting Baby Dex off the bottle. He won't even try his canned kitten food. I'm not sure how I'm going to get him weaned off of it.  :spooked: Usually, by this age other kittens show interest in other types of food. I don't want to push him too hard on it, because he has been through sooooo much. Eventually, I think he will get to the point, where the bottle doesn't fill him up, and he'll start to eat regular cat food. Sometimes, they are hard to wean, and that might be the scenario here. He's had a lot of trauma in his short life, and the bottle may be his only comfort.

That's how it's done in nature. But I'm not his real Mama, so I can't deprive him of his food. Nature is very cruel sometimes. I think eventually he'll be OK. I guess considering all he's been through, it should be the least of my worries. Now that all of the swelling has gone down, you can see his hip bone flex when he walks or runs. It's kind of weird.

Baby Dex is starting to get independent. When he gets tired of playing with the other cats, he climbs up on the couch, curls himself into a ball, and goes to sleep. :smitten: He pretty much sleeps through the night now too. Me, I hope to get some on here real soon.

PIYA, he is a silver grey color. His hair is long, and it's extremely fluffy. He looks like a fur ball. His fur color really makes his eye color stand out. He is also getting fat as a little pig. He still refuses to eat his kitten food. He's moving in the right direction though. Last night, I was having some corn curls, and a glass of milk. He had just had his bottle, and decided he wanted to try some of the corn curls LOL!!! He loves them!!!  I had to fill his bottle with some milk from my glass, corn curls are dry, and I didn't want him to choke. Boy, did we make a mess with those LMAO!!! There were remnants of corn curls everywere, and his face and nose were orange from the cheese. So, I guess we have to do this weaning thing in baby steps LOL!!!

Baby Dex is eating his canned kitten food finally!!!!  He still gets a bottle for breakfast, one when I get home from work in the afternoon, and one at bedtime. He really can run and play. The only real thing he has trouble with is balancing to go potty. He kind of has to lean, and he gets messy, but Mama cleans him up, and it's all better.  I think overall he has done amazingly well through all of this. He seems to be well adjusted, and he's starting to get ornery. He is extremely drawn to Dudley, which isn't a good thing, because I have to keep them separated, and limit his exposure to Dudley, because he's positive for Feline Leukemia. This is easier said than done. Everytime, I catch them playing together I just cringe. I worry about him constantly.  He seems to sleep a lot more than he had been. I think he's worn out from growing sooooo fast LOL!!! I have got to get pictures.

Baby Dex is refusing his bottle now. I introduced him to water today. He ate a sizable amount of his canned kitten food this morning. He is sooooooo sweet. I have a small stuffed Pug in his carrier as company for him. This morning I put a paper plate with kitten food on it in his carrier. When I came in from mowing, I went to his carrier to get him out. OK.... here's the cute part...... he had pushed his Pug friend up to plate, and it looked like they were having breakfast together.   It was sooooo cute, and would have made a great picture, but I didn't have any film in my camera.  I think we can use the digital camera to take some pictures of him.

He's growing up sooooo fast.  :'( He wouldn't take his bottle this morning, and he hasn't come up to me, to be held today. :'( He's busy playing, and has no time for Mama.  He laid in on the couch for several hours today, chewing on his tail and foot, and entertaining himself. He's a little silly willy.

I noticed a ring on top of his head this morning, and I'm afraid he may have ringworm.  :spooked: I've never seen ringworm before, so I'm not sure. I do know it's contagious to humans though.  :spooked: He had earmites at the time of his surgery, but he was too young to be treated for them. His ears look awful pink, so I'm going to try to get an appointment at the vet's office, and get him in (hopefully) tomorrow. *fingers crossed* I also did some checking about ringworm, and my heart sank. I guess cats that are Feline Leukemia positive ,and have suppressed immune systems usually get ringworm. Now, I'm really scared he has it.  :'( Good God!!!! What's next?

Baby Dexter has an appointment at the vets tomorrow. I'm hoping he can be tested for Feluke. If it's negative, I hope he's old enough for his shots. I've been really worried about the Feluke, because Dudley has it, and of course Dexter is extremely drawn to him.

Baby Dexter had his vets appointment yesterday. They took a culture of his bald spot, and they think it is probably ringworm. I've never had any experience with that. The vet gave him his first shots, wormed him, and gave me a bunch of medicine to give him. I even had to go to Walgreen's, to get one of his prescriptions filled. I didn't even know they sold animal grade medication at Walgreen's. It was pretty cheap actually, I was pleasantly surprised. Looks like he's going to be getting a bath in special shampoo 3 times a week, for the forseeable future. GOOD TIMES!!!  He's sill too young to be tested for Feluke. I have to continue keeping him away from Dudley Boy. That is a chore in and of itsself. They are very drawn to each other.

I guess that's debatable. He's too young to be tested. So, if he got the shot before we know it could show a false positive. At this point if they tested him it could show a false negative when they test him. My vet thinks we should wait until he's 6 MONTHS OLD to test him.  :spooked: :spooked:   I think I'll die from stress before that!!! I worry about him constantly. Hubby thinks I'm obsessed with Dexter's well being. I'm very much so. Monday Champy will be gone a year.  :'( I'm sooooo glad I don't have to work that day. I'm sure it will be a very sad day. On anniversaries of some events, I tend to think back, and get very depressed.  :'( Last weekend Hubby and I discussed plans for her memorial garden.

I thought this might be a good place to ask this question. LOL What type of litter do you buy?

We were in the cat section looking at all of the different cat products and it dawned on me that I don't have a clue what works the best. I told my daughter that we'd buy a big box of Fresh Step this time and that I'd ask Dex later. She said, "Who's Dex" and I said, "A cat expert on the forum". LOL  She knew what I was talking about because she knows what the forum is.

LOL!!!!  When did you get a kitty? I recently switched cat liters. Right now, I'm using Arm and Hammer Super Scoop. It seems to control odors the best. It has baking soda in it. It's a little higher in price than the other stuff I've used, but I hate to smell the liter box. So, it's worth it.

I like the scoopable kind too.  I have 6 adult cats and 4 that are 8 weeks old.  Scoopable is the way to go.  I usually buy the Walmart brand.  but I also like Tidy Cats.

They are extremely intelligent creatures. Most of them potty train themselves.

On another note.... I'm having trouble getting Baby Dexter potty trained. He knows where the liter box is,  but he continually tries to pee in his dish of Kitten Chow.  :spooked: We have to put all of the dry cat food up on the counter, so he doesn't ruin it. That stuff ain't cheap!!!! Hubby is getting pissy about it ,and has told Dex he better straighten up, or he'll be joining the out side cats.  Mama says... no,no,no Baby Dex will go outside over my dead body. The cats and I are thinking of starting a mutiny, and throwing him out with the outside cats LMAO!!! Actually, he's been very tolerent of my cat obsession.

Well, Baby Dexter is growing like a weed. He is definitely spoiled rotten, and is very ornery. He beats on our kitten Rosie all the time. He's learning what time outs are. Yesterday morning Rosie was sleeping on the couch, and Dex pounced on her,and bite the hell outta her!!!  :spooked: He got a 10 minute time out over that. He bawled the whole time he was closed in the bathroom LOL!!!

Okay, I'm going to put this question here...well, because it's about our kitten.

I heard on a program that cats have hundreds of different "meows" depending on their needs. I'm not sure that I have heard that many yet, but maybe. Anyway, I happened to notice a couple different ones last night.

At bedtime, she always gets super affectionate and has this long, loud and very urgent meow and starts rubbing her little face on my hands. She knows that I'll pet and scratch her if she does that.

This morning, it was a very short meow and almost sounded like "kack", but she was doing the same thing.

So, if she's using two different meows to ask for different things, then I'm wondering what the difference is.

Maybe one is "I'm feelin' lonely here!" and the other is, "I feel loved, but you can pet me if you want". Then again, she comes in every morning when my alarm goes of. I can forget the snooze button from now on.

Any ideas?

OK... that morning meow is.... get up and feed me now dammit!!! After the alarm clock goes off ,my cats pester me to death, until I get up ,and feed them.

I get that meow at night too. I'm not exactly sure what they're trying to tell me. Usually, when Dudley does it it means he wants to be loved up.  :smitten:

I thought so too, Dex, but her food bowl was full. I do fill it up before I leave for work everyday, so maybe that's still it and she's just getting into the routine. It could be that my daughter had filled it up and she hadn't checked it because she's used to me doing it.

There's one meow that I absolutely love. When I come home, she comes running from any trouble she's getting herself into, meowing all the way, like HEY! you came back! LOL

This kitten is the most mischievous lil' thing and you can almost see it in her eyes when she's itching to get into something. Normally it means that something gets knocked off or Benji gets trampled in the process, but I llove that expression.

I think he had some sort of virus. He had a fever and usually if it's a poisoning they vomit profusely, and sometimes it has blood in it. Also most of the time poisoning is fatal. Usually, by the time it's diagnosed as poisoning it's already too late.

I have an adult female that just gave birth to 4 kittens in April.  Now she is nothing but skin and bones....the babies are almost as big as she is..and one of them probably even weighs more than she does.  What could cause this Dex?  I am worried about her.  She has been drinking water and today I finally seen her eat some dry food.  Maybe she is just gonna be small like her momma is.

It could be just about anything. My mama cats get down to skin and bones too after they have babies. My guess would be they've completely spent her stored fat through nursing. Pregnancy and nursing really is hard on their bodies. Mine always look skeletal after the kittens come. After they're weened you might want to worm her. I think I'd kind of watch her, and see if she gets better. If you think she isn't progressing, or her condition deteriorates, you might have to have her looked at. My cat Maddie had 5  kittens a month ago, and I think her milk has dried up. I've started them on canned food, because they fuss constantly. Maddie looks very thin too. When the kittens see me they coming running. I must look like either 1. a walking tittie or 2. a can of food LOL!!

Well, Baby Dexter went for his booster shots today but, was unable to get them. The vet treated him for early stage Chronic Upper Respiratory Disease. He goes back in 2 weeks to (hopefully) get his boosters. He is also old enough to be neutered, so as soon as he's well enough, I'm setting him up an appointment.
