If he has diarrhea you could try a little rice baby cereal in his bottle too. Just a dab.
I've heard that rice helps diarrhea. That might be worth a try.

Don't sound like you had a very fun night.
If a person thinks diarrhea is fun, it was a GOOD TIME!!!  Something about waking up to the sound of explosive diarrhea, is a little unsettling to me.  :spooked: My first thought is Ugh!!! Then comes the smell !!! :spooked: Then I wonder to myself..... Oh, I hope to God he isn't smeared from head to paw in it!!!  Of course something like that always draws the attention of the other cats.  They stand there staring wondering.... what the hell has happened? Then they sniff the air, and then comes the dreaded look of disgust they shoot at the victim. You can just about read their minds, when they get that look LMAO!!!  Thank God Baby Dex is better tonight!!!!

Glad to hear he's better.  Didn't you say the vet gave him an antibiotic?  If so maybe that is it.

I have always heard that canned cat food will give a cat diarrhea.  That's why mine don't get but as a treat maybe once a week or so.  I hate  pooper scooping the runs.....
Dogs come when they're called; cats take a message and get back to you later.

That could be it. I never even thought about that. His stools have always been loose. He has been on the antibiotics since before the surgery.

Yeah, that's the worst. Up until now he has only had the bottle. The vet told me to start him on canned food, and slowly wean him off the bottle. I bought some 'Iams' canned kitten food, and he has shown no real intrest in it. This morning at breakfast, I gave him a bite of egg yolk ,and he fell in love. He ended up eating almost half an egg. So, I guess that's a start. He will have to get used to he regular food, because I don't feed table scraps to my pets. I may give them a little bite here and there, but table food is horrible for animals. With my diet he'd be dead in months LOL!!! I'm a serious junk food junkie.

I'm having trouble getting Baby Dex off the bottle. He won't even try his canned kitten food. I'm not sure how I'm going to get him weaned off of it.  :spooked: Usually, by this age other kittens show interest in other types of food. I don't want to push him too hard on it, because he has been through sooooo much. Eventually, I think he will get to the point, where the bottle doesn't fill him up, and he'll start to eat regular cat food. Sometimes, they are hard to wean, and that might be the scenario here. He's had a lot of trauma in his short life, and the bottle may be his only comfort.

How would a mama cat do it?  Wouldn't she just walk away or turn away if he tried to nurse?

That's how it's done in nature. But I'm not his real Mama, so I can't deprive him of his food. Nature is very cruel sometimes. I think eventually he'll be OK. I guess considering all he's been through, it should be the least of my worries. Now that all of the swelling has gone down, you can see his hip bone flex when he walks or runs. It's kind of weird.

I'm sure once he figures out that the other cats are getting something he's not he'll dig right in....

Yes, very strange.  Baby Dex is doing great tonight. He sure is strong. He can climb up on the couch by himself. At supper he was playing with his shadow. He was sitting on a pillow on the couch and the endtable lamp was projecting his shadow on the pillow, and he played for over an hour LOL!!! He's easily entertained. ,
