The kitten has been taking a lot of formula tonight. When it isn't eating it's sleeping. So, hopefully we'll have a peaceful evening.

I wish I had your confidence PIYA.  I just hope I can handle everything OK. I hope it isn't in a lot of pain, I can't stand to see animals suffer. I do have some pain medication for it, it hasn't needed any yet, but I got some in case its leg started to hurt. So, at least I have that. The dosing is really tricky on an animal that small. They can only have a small drop, or it could kill them.  :spooked: We'll just have to see what happens.

I'm so optimistic that I get on the nerves of optimists. Seriously. Pollyanna has nothin' on me!

Well, the surgery  was a success so far. The poor little thing looks like half a kitten. When I first saw it I almost cried. I did cry on the way home.  :'( It looks soooo pathetic. It is alert and the major concern was getting it a bottle ASAP!!! It drank a full bottle of formula when we got home. Right now it's sleeping. It wants to be held constantly, so that's what I'm going to do. Tonight, I'm going to light the fireplace and veg with the kitten. I was very surprised to find out, they stapled it instead of suturing it. I'd say there are probably 15 or 20 staples. We go back a week from tomorrow to have the staples out. I guess I worried myself over nothing. It seems normal it's just missing a leg.

Dex, I have to tell you this story, because I couldn't help but think of you and your kitty today.

I went to the laundromat to do my laundry and I saw this very shaggy...huge...kinda intimidating looking all black dog standing at the window, staring in. I was in love. :smitten: A man in the laundromat walked out and had a torn cup w/water in it, which he sat on the sidewalk for her. When she turned to go to the water, I realized she was missing a leg.

I'm thinking she's a stray so I walked outside and started talking to the man who gave her water and told him that was a nice thing to do and she attracted my attention too. He said, "She's my dog. Her name is Bella."  Then he went on to tell me the story. He had just put his lab to sleep about 10 years ago. He'd had her for 15 years and obviously was very sad that she'd gotten so ill w/tumors that he had no other option. He said that he was in NO way whatsoever ready for another dog. It had only been a few weeks. He'd gone to the laundromat and while he was sitting there waiting for his laundry to wash, he heard this wimpering. He looked around and didn't see anything. He said that he actually thought it was his mind playing tricks on him and that it was his deceased dog. He went to put his laundry in the bottom dryer and in the dryer was this little black pup with half closed eyes looking up at him. He said that it wasn't even old enough to be weaned yet and it's eyes hadn't opened all the way. He picked it up and it's leg fell away from the body. He took it home and then the vet. Bottle fed her until she was old enough to eat food. She's now a little over 100 lbs and that was 9 years ago. The leg had to be amputated. Obviously they think it had been ran in the dryer, but the cartilage and tendons had been torn so badly that the leg couldn't be repaired. It took her a little longer to learn to walk, but she's definitely healthy and happy.

So there you go! A sign. Everything is going to be great for the little fella.

Awww... what a sweet story. I totally understand about the guy thinking it was his dog that died. I still think I hear Mugsy sometimes. It's sickening what people do to torture animals. You hear and read about stuff like that everyday. It's a sad, sad, world we live in.  :'(

OK guys here's an update......

Me, yes that's a very good sign.

PIYA.... it's good to be optimistic to the extreme. It means you have hope of a good outcome in every situation.

The kitten is doing AWESOME!!! No troubles whatsoever. No pain, and the staples look like they're holding really good. The kitten and I went to sleep at about 11:30 last night, and we slept until 6:00am, until the other cats woke us up wanting their canned food.   So, at 6:00 the cats got fed, the kitten got a ba ba, and Mom had a carmel candybar, and a glass of milk. We went back to bed, and didn't wake up until 10:15 when Hubby got home. If not for that we may have slept on through LOL!!!

I can't believe how great the little stinker is doing. We still can't figure out the sex though LOL!!! The kitten is actually zipping around the house, and playing. The other cats are being nice to it, where as they were growling, and snarling at it before. I'm really pleased with everything. I had myself sooo worked up yesterday, that I had a horrible stomach ache. I'm just glad we're seeing progress. The little turd acts like there is nothing different with its body. In actuality, that leg was a hindrance, and it had a lot of pain with it there.

I'm really happy about it. Everything is still going smoothly. I think it actually feels better now that the leg is gone. Infection, can affect all sorts of functions in the body, add pain to it, and it can really do a number on it. I feel very lucky that the little fart survived the surgery, and is making progress. I'm trying my best to spoil it rotten.

Na....  It's a little fussy tonight. I'm not sure what that's about. It wants to be held, so we've been in the recliner, for hours on end. Of course this would be the one night when there's nothing good on TV LOL!!!

It seems like it LOL!!! The bad thing is we have Direct TV, and we have something like 200 channels. With that many channels a person ought to be able to find something good to watch.  I just put the kitten in its carrier, and hopefully it will be down for a while. Mama needs a break LOL!!!

Well, the kitten and I slept through the night, until 6:00 am when the other cats wanted their canned food.  I sound like a broken record don't I? LOL!!! Last night, I noticed the incision was a little bit pink around it. They told me I could swab it lightly with peroxide, so I did. Man, that was not a GOOD TIME!!!  The kitten cried, and squirmed around frantically.  I think it must have hurt. I blew on it, like you do when you use alcohol, and that seemed to help. Right now, I'm worried that it's going to get infected. I've been keeping the incision as clean ,and as dry as possible. We may take a trip over to the vet's tomorrow, just to be on the safe side.
