Okay, folks! Who out there is a fan? Will you be watching this season of American Idol...or are you burned out?!?
For those watching, let's compare notes here...who do you think is going to take it all the way?!?
It's early...any thoughts on last night's show?!?
I watch it. Last nights show wasn't as good as I had expected it to be. I love the audition shows, they are sometimes better than the actual competition. Tonights show looks like it might be funnier. I did enjoy the one guy, the one who kept trying to sing every song like Chris Daughtry, he just didn't "get it". LOL
I completely agree, H4TK! I have been a devoted show watcher since the second season (somehow missed the first one)...but halfway through last night's show, I thought to myself, "this is getting a bit redundant". Simon Cowell can be so brutal!
That was pretty funny when the Chris Daughtry-wanna-be didn't 'get it'!!! And the girl who was the "Number One fan"! She kept telling the judges about her degree in voice & 10 years of lessons.
I thought there were a few that seemed promising last night...the one from Miami (sang Blondie & Shakira)....the one who sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"....and the one who talked about being a "crack baby". :spooked:
I like the ones who have no talent, but are up there, just a-beltin' that song out at the top of their lungs, just the same.
Fun to watch the ones who get p.o.'d and start calling the judges names.
Don't like to see so much footage of the ones who have deluded themselves into believing they have so much talent, and they are just totally shattered and their dreams are destroyed.
Yep. It certainly takes a lot of courage & confidence to get up there.
Kudos to the good, the bad, & the not so pretty.
I like the 16 year old girl who was born a 'crack baby'. She belted it out. I'm keeping my eye on her.
 Gotta love those who truly have 'natural' talent...I bet you're right!
I wish I could see it. I cannot seem to get Fox at all. We gave up on cable a couple months ago.
I watch the tryouts to laugh at the crappy singers...
then I usually follow online whats going on til close to the end. Seattle tonight is supposed to be hysterical.
1 and 2 then I was done. Haven't watched it since.

Simon brutal and Paula drunk...they
are funny! ;D
The one who sang the Blondie/Shakira songs, I don't think she will go far, her accent is too strong...kinda reminds me of the "Chris" guy.
The girl who sang "Somewhere over the Rainbow", I liked her, she had a good voice and could sing. I also liked the "crack baby" girl. I think a few were sent thru because they were "better" than what had been there, but they weren't really good.
Tonights show...OMG...that one lady with her mom (Meisha)...she was a riot.I have to say, Seatle has some strange people...lol. I didn't see the whole show...for some reason, FOX had a basketball game one, I missed about an hour of it.
That stinks, H4TK! It was a very interesting show last night. So, you didn't get to see the last audition of the night?!? That would've been "Red"...he was almost in the same category as "Meisha".
Still, I have to give these people credit. Although, I wonder how many of them truly believe they have talent vs. the ones who 'ham it up' for the camera?
My favorite part of the auditions is when they have everyone sing the same song & they mix them all together.
"Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me...don't you wish your girlfriend was a freak like me...don't ya....don't ya..."
Hilarious!
Okay ANYONE out there have a recommendation for a good antenna to buy so I can pick up Fox?????? Hubby says that we'll probably end up ordering cable again, but after we move.
No help with that, Daisy...but there are always other options...a) go to a friend's house on AI nights; b) go to Sunny's house on AI nights ; c) see if there are "highlights" on the American Idol (http://on%20the%20other%20hand,) website.
Tempting...LOL That's a long drive for AI though!
Yes, I guess it'd be a bit much. ;D

Does FOX have a local station in your area? I know you can pick up an antenna at walmart (I paid about $25 for one a few years back) that helps pick up a couple local stations. If it doesn't work, you can always take it back.Good luck!
Did anyone watch last night?!?
It was pretty darn disappointing to me. I'll be very glad when the auditions are over & they get down to the top 20 or 12 or whichever.
They only showed 1 or 2 good auditions last night -- the rest were all goof-offs or people that should've never gotten that far.
To me, it was just a mockery last night. :-\
Saw a couple of reviews that panned the show for exactly what you said.
They (the reviewers) stated that the producers are letting too many untalented acts through the screening, purely for entertainment purposes. This, the reviewers said, is watering down the talent pool in an artificial way.
Personally, I tried watching the first night, and just found it boring. I started reading the latest issue of U.S. News and World Report, waiting for someone talented to audition.
...sad to say it wasn't much better last night. At least they showed a few more talented folks.
Aww, it just broke my heart when Ian (Gloria!) didn't make it thru. To let such talent just slip thru their fingers! LOL
:lies:
So...only one more night of auditions left? Hallelujah! Although, last night was okay. Not *too* much drama.
It gets better from here. Especially after Hollywood!
My favorite from last night -- the guy with the curly hair -- or was that on Tuesday night?
Yipee! We go to Hollywood tonight, dawgs!
So, Bailey Brown is out...*shocked*...only a few standing out so far. In particular, the big guy with curly hair & glasses...he'll be in the final 20.
This guy:
YEAH! He made it to the Top 24!
Any thoughts on this??!?? Are you watching this season or just plain give up on it?
Who do you have your eye on???
It was heartbreaking when Bailey forgot words to her song. I knew instantly that she would be gone. I will have to watch a few more weeks before I decide who I will be pulling for. You really can't tell much now, they haven't performed a complete song, kinda hard to judge. I do think it will be a male winner this yr though.
I haven't given up on AI.
In the past years, I've not really liked the episodes in Hollywood when they have to group up and perform. It's too much drama for me. So I didn't watch those shows this week.
Now that there's only 24, I will watch every show.
Thanks, ladies! I was beginning to think I was alone in my AI obsession. lol!
I agree, BEG -- they could eliminate the shows up to this point because they're a bit "predictable" & drama-filled....but, at the same time, it is neat at the end of the season to see the finalists back at the audition stage.
H4TK, out of curiosity, what makes you think it'll be a male winner?
I think the male contestants could sing better. None of the women really impressed me as "stand out" good. I did like the one lady that was the single mom....can't remember her name though. I was helping daughter with her homework while the show was on.
Gotcha!
It should get more interesting now that the "fluff" is gone.
After watching the last couple of shows, I might be changing my mind about it being a "male" winner. Now that they are given the chance to sing longer, some of those ladies can sing!
I'm gonna send a note to school asking that daughter not have any homework on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, it's just not fair! LOL

This guy:
He's from right near me! Was a wedding singer here for a while. When he auditioned...I was expecting something awful just because he had such a comedic personality and a Jack Osborne look...but he is really good!
I like Jordin Sparks, Melinda Doolittle, the HOT guy who looks like Timberlake - Chris Richardson, and the blonde hair bee-bop guy - Blake Lewis, and of course the judges favorite Lakisha Jones.
I believe that's the tope 5.
Well, you seem to be right on the money, BEG...aside from Lakisha Jones...I'm not sure she'll be in the final 5? And although cute, I don't find Chris Richardson that good -- especially when he moves away from his "Backstreet Boys" genre.
Of course, I'm still pulling for Chris Sligh...
My prediction for the final 5:
Melinda Doolittle
Chris Sligh
Blake Lewis
Gina Glocksen
Jordin Sparks
I was told that Simon vowed that he would quit if one of the contestants wins.
That true? If so, which one?
I dunno, FTW...didn't hear about that....but, if I had to guess, I would say this guy:
Sanjaya Malakar
(http://im.rediff.com/movies/2007/feb/16idol.jpg)
He must be getting the younger population vote...he's pretty bad at singing!
I've heard from others that he's pretty bad. Could be the one Simon freaked out about. 'Course Simon freaks about a lot of those people.
True. Very true. And Simon is very predictable. That's sad.
I just looked around briefly & it appears that Sanjaya is the contestant currently winning the "Worst Contestant" popularity vote...beating out many good one for this fact. Also, read some conspiracy about his votes generating from Indian call centers?
Eek...gads...
i heard that too. They are voting for the worst singer in an effort to force the good ones out.
but the kid who can't sing is a real cutie. Kind of looks like a poster child for a virginity pledge.
I really like the chubby guy with glasses. hope he does well.
I also like the heavy set black girl. She can belt it out. I would buy her music.
I never know their names....shame on me.

Yes, damfast...he's on the top of my list, too!
I think, blake lewis, is unique enough to win the competion....he can sing and he has his own style...he is my pick to win it all...
my little girl like chris to win it all
I'd be happy with either one of them...I like Blake a lot, too....I'm interested in seeing him as the weeks come up...he did just fine with Donna Ross-style.
I like Chris, Gina and Lakisha. Melinda is good, but there is something strange about her. Sanjaya needs to GO!
2 hour special tonight!
I'm pretty tired of Melinda playing the shy, and "I'm sooo humble"..card....it was cute at first, but, now it is starting to play against her, imo...
LOL! I agree...Melinda's good, but not "original" IMO. Same with Lakisha & Jordin...their style isn't all that different from Fantasia.
Gina is oiginal -- and someone that they could cultivate -- but, I'm not sure she'll get the "popularity" vote she'll need...
And yes, Henry...her demeanor doesn't seem as genuine now...*psst* I think it's her head...
;D
hey, I'm with you on Gina too...and you, know, I'm gonna make a wager that that Haily chick, who messed up her lines last week, will be the underdog and last a few more weeks....she, got a big boost from Simon, and that could give her a big chance to shine....
That's a good point! Hailey reminds me a little of Katherine McPhee from last season...
Okay, maybe not...don't see her going too much longer on the show. :( Sanjaya -- eek, gads.
Tonight's pick(s) for me:
Jordin Sparks * Blake Lewis
hands down...the best 2 performances of the night, IMO.

I'll go with that... :)
Yep, those 2 really did a good job tonight. I really enjoyed Blakes performance.
Hawk, I think you hit the nail on the head about Melinda and her "humble" act. It's beginning to remind me of Kelly Pickler's "dumb country girl' antics last season. I remember hearing something about Melinda having her 2 friends with her because they picked all her clothes and helped with her makeup...can you imagine what she would have if she "made it".
I really hope Sanjaya goes tomorrow night. If not, he will be in top 10 and they will be the ones touring. I don't think he deserves to go that far. I laughed when Simon thought the little girl was crying because she didn't like Sanjaya.
I agree...if Sanjaya doesn't go home tonight then something is gravely wrong...his performance was deplorable last night.
Phil didn't do very well though...and neither did Haley -- should be one of them going.
Can we say "She Bangs," ladies and gentlemen?
Welp...he's still there. *sigh* And Stephanie is gone. Looks like someone is trying to get rid of Simon.

I noticed that tonight too. It seems her body is missing something, hmmm, maybe a neck? I dunno, she just seems kinda strange.
Sanjayas hair tonight? <shaking head>
Grrrr...I don't even know if I can talk about the show this week.
 :'( :-\
This is almost as bad as when Chris Daughtry was voted off. I think Chris D. was voted off because the fans got comfortable thinking he would win, but in the case of Sanjaya, it's getting kinda ridiculous. I think people are voting for Sanjaya just to see how long he lasts and to see if Simon will quit and that is undermining the show. Chris Sligh did not deserve to go, he might not have won, but he deserved a chance to stay longer.
I agree with just about everything, H4TK...Chris Sligh was one of my favorites, but in all fairness, he did not "bring it" this week. ;D As for Chris Daughtry, I kinda wonder if America figured he would "make it" with our without American Idol? Heck, he's already sold far more records than Taylor Hicks. *sigh* But, it could've been what you said, too...America just got comfortable with his popularity & it backfired.
And the whole Sanjaya thing is just...sickening. :'(
Oh, and it is definitely a *neck* thing with Melinda...although, her face is quite large, too...I'm thinking it's some type of Dwarfism(?).
You may be right about the dwarfism. I noticed that when she *hugged* herself last week, she looked a bit out of whack. She can sing though.
Chris D. has made good for himself. My son went to see him last week in Greensboro. He gave a free outdoor concert. Yesterday, the same son was standing in line to buy tickets to see him perform at a club in Winston-Salem. He was calling his 12 year old sister to let her hear him sing. :)
So much publicity has been centered around Sanjaya--- the poor kid probably thinks he can sing, not realizing he is being made fun of. Can you imagine how big his head is this week, knowing he wasn't even in bottom 3?
I actually fell asleep halfway through the show last night...pretty much giving up on this season. There isn't anyone in particular that "tickles my fancy".
If I HAD to pick, the only contestant that I'd like to see take the title is Blake Lewis. If he goes home in the next few weeks, I'm done watching the show for the season.
Drastic? Maybe a bit. I'm just bored with it all. ;)
Your thoughts?
same here.....I like blake...and the rocker girl...but it will probably be the dwarf girl....it' is not as good as it was the last couple of years...not sure why either...
I finally get to watch it! We have cable again.
I am not sure of names, but the first black gal to sing was my favorite. Melinda?

she is very good, but gets on my nerves, you will see after a couple of weeks, she always act like she is soooo humble, and like she can't believe that everybody thinks she is good...seems very phoney to me....
Ahh, I did notice that her eyes were big, like she was in shock of her praise.

the first few times it was cute, now it is getting sickening...but, the girl CAN sing, that's for sure...
I agree, Henry..she can sing...but, to me, it's not really that original...I just don't see her making debut pop-star albums...but, that's where the "reality show" vs. "talent" comes in. That's the part becoming redundant to me, the popularity & 'for ratings only' aspects of the show.
Glad you got to see it finally, Daisy! You've missed a few good ones that got cut early. :-\
So Aaron was telling me that the one guy, Sanjaya or something like that, is only still on there because of some hoax the Howard Stern show has started, getting people to vote for him to keep him on, to throw the results. ??? Anyone else heard this?

yeah, I heard that too....Simon has said if Sanjaya wins, he will quit....Stern hates Cowell and AI...so he is trying to get the kid to win...
something about votefortheworst.com according to Bill Maher...?
Yep...you've got it, Daisy. Pretty sad.
I liked Gina...not sure that she deserved to go home before some of the other contestants.
So that is really going on?
Looks like it, Daisy..sad, but true.
I kinda hope Keith Richardson goes home soon...aside from being a little cute, his singing voice annoys me.
(hello everyone, btw!!!)
Prayers have been answered!!! Woohoo!!!! Sanjaya is finally gone!!!!
Oopsie...I just realized that I put the wrong name. I guess the kid I meant is Chris Richard(son)? He did okay singing Rascal Flatts -- but he's too whiney.
Yep, Cache! Just when the majority of America was ready to give up all hope on the show...
Poor kid -- at least he'll make a few million from this, more-than-likely.
Yes but his million will be like the guy from season 1 or 2 that sang "She Bangs!"
No doubt. Kinda like Weird Al...
So, who are we voting for to take it all? Blake? Melinda? Jordin?
My guess is on these 3...
In all truth, I think Jordin has had the most growth & is the most versatile. Blake is very unique, but has a clear style...as does Melinda. Even though she's good & popular, I just don't see her as THE American Idol.
Jordin may be my ultimate choice.
I don't know. I wasn't a big fan of Blake at the beginning but he has grown on me.
He's grown on me, too...mmmm hmmmm..... :icon_twisted:
Although, his performance tonight was just safe, IMO.
Jordin's was amazing...
Any thoughts on this week's show? Feedback about the mission? Comments on everyone surviving until next week?
Getting down to nitty gritty time!!!
Who's still watching the show? Anyone?
Down to the final four...
My guessimate is that Lakisha will go home next..then possibly Jordin or Blake...and Melinda will win.
She's not my pick, but my guess of the final results.
FWIW.

I'm thinkin Jordin or Blake too................but, you are probably correct in Melinda........not my pick either...
This is always one of my favorite nights of American Idol - they go back to there home towns. Watching their communities support them is nice to see.
Oh...cool! I like this night, too!!!
Who are you rootin' for, BEG? Lil Beg?
I'm torn this season (for the first time - I might add - LOL).
I think Melinda is the most talented - that's obvious, and it's not her 'fault' she's been a back-up singer in the past, but it does make me want to cheer / vote for someone else.
I think AI was originally created for someone like Jordin. She's young and talented (but not as much as Melinda).
IMO, either one of them is going to have an amazing career, if they keep focused.
Lil BEG is voting for Blake. She really likes it when he beat-boxes (sp?) plus she says he's HOT! :smitten:
I am definitely with LilBEG on this one...Blake IS hot. And my husband & I agree that he has such a unique talent, he will prevail regardless of his fate on AI. I have a feeling he may go home tonight.
I still stand by my original thoughts that Melinda will more-than-likely win? I feel as if she has been showcased to win since the very beginning...
And I agree 100% with your perspective on Jordin -- she's an ideal "AI" winner...but, I think she will also go far regardless of her fate. She will definitely have a recording contract & will probably do the best of all 3 remaining contestants.
So, not that it means a hill 'o beans...but, I say Melinda, the artist formerly known as a back-up singer, will take the title. Just look at the songs she was lined up with last night...seemed to be tipped a tad in her favor.
And I was W-R-O-N-G!!! Although I admittedly fell asleep...looks like Melinda went home.
Now things will be even more exciting!!!
That was a bit of a surprise to me also. I didn't watch it but heard who got the boot!
Morning Sunny! Mom is coming down this weekend.
Yeah, the past couple of years the popular ones haven't made it to the finals - last year Chris Daughtry and this year Melinda Doolittle. But it really doesn't matter - all 3 of them are going to have record contracts which may be why Americans lose interest and just don't call in and vote.... dunno?
Oh well, next week will be interesting.
Lil BEG called me last night all excited that Blake is still in it. :smitten:

Good (belated) Morning! Have a great visit with your Mom!
You could be on to something, BEG...and isn't it true?!? Sheesh...look at the top finalist from last year. The winner seems to be the least successful. *shrug*
So true! I mean, even Elliott Yamin has an album out. I didn't know that was him when I heard it on the radio, but I really liked it. I was surprised when I heard who it was!
They had him on the show this week...I must admit, he looked a little freaky with his "The Swan" overhaul. :o
It was funny; kind of like looking at a picture of my 45 year old brother in high school. That's the way he wore his hair back then, and it was the first thing I thought of!
What hair? I couldn't get beyond his teeth.
hahaha! They were bigger and whiter than I remember. Straighter, too.
For some reason, Chicklets came to mind.
War in BEGs place tonight! It started early this morning. Lil BEG was going on about Blake so I fired back about Jordin. We're ready for the final tonight!!
HOW EXCITING!!! LOL! Going head-to-head for the title. 8)
The cool thing is...they will BOTH be big winners...and both deserve to win. I don't think this year turned out to be a "popularity" thing, these two truly have very individual talents. Jordin is absolutely awesome. She's very young, but so versatile. She was able to sing a country song, a pop/r&b song, and then make the original song her own last night.
Blake, I love to pieces...I wish he would've gone a little further out of his "comfort zone"; but, he's just a great entertainer & will have an awesome career.
Good luck to you both. May the "best BEG win".
     Congratulations to Jordin Sparks.

I think Blake will do very well for himself though. Jordin was very good...she blew Blake away on that song that they each had to sing. he seemed like he wasn't enjoying the song when he sang it.
