What we need now is gas lights, gas refrigerator and a gas television.  We had found gas line in the ceiling of my dad's old house for gas lights.  But back then the house was heated with coal.

I think I may break out my camping gear and start lighting with my lanterns!

My neighbors were giving me the business for not trimming my house in holiday lighting this year. I bet they're wishing they had done the same now!

It doesn't seem like it was 65 years ago that I brought in 4 coal bucket in each day and two buckets of ashes out.  But it happen for many years.

I can remember walking to school in the morning through the white snow and coming home after school and the snow was covered with black coal ash.  Oh those were the days when there was one stove in the whole house and every morning we ran for it to get dressed for school.  It may cost more but I don't want to go back to the good old days.

Indiana - "At will state"

At-will employment is a doctrine of American law that defines an employment relationship in which either party can break the relationship with no liability, provided there was no express contract for a definite term governing the employment relationship and that the employer does not belong to a collective bargaining group (i.e., has not recognized a union). Under this legal doctrine:
"   any hiring is presumed to be "at will"; that is, the employer is free to discharge individuals "for good cause, or bad cause, or no cause at all," and the employee is equally free to quit, strike, or otherwise cease work. "

Translation - They can fire you at will, and you can quit at will. (But try and do so and you'll find they give you a crappy/no reference).  ADVANTAGE - Employer

SCOTUS Decision Granting Constitutional Rights to faceless/soulless corporations-

Now corporations enjoy the same rights as any one of you reading this, but they are not held accountable to conducting business in a way that honors the individual, constitutional rights of their employees.

Advantage - EMPLOYERS

Indiana - Right To Work State

Given the two above facts, the collective bargaining agreement is the only refuge left for the average Joe/Jane working within a major corporation, and today Indiana threw every last one of them (us) under the bus.

Advantage - EMPLOYERS

How much more of an advantage does the soulless. faceless, multi billion dollar corporate jack wagons need?

You want to talk about socialism? What do you think things are going to be like in the next decade, as corporations overtake all aspects of our lives and the laws of the land, while the masses starve in their shacks???  :spooked: :spooked: :spooked: :spooked: :spooked:

I think you find that most of the SCABS are Republican.  They want to destroy the union who are now the only group who has an organized group of people who will stand up the the Republicans and the corporations.

The Hawk and "ME" and the other SCABS in this state and country wants the Republican Party and the corporations to have complete control and take the country back the the 18TH century.   All of them can :azz:

News Release: Union Forced Dues Threats against WRTV Anchor Highlight Need for Indiana Right to Work Law

News Release
Union Forced Dues Threats against WRTV Anchor Highlight Need for Indiana Right to Work Law
Union hit with federal labor board charges for demanding TV anchor pay union dues despite lack of valid contract between her employer and the union

Indianapolis, IN (May 19, 2011) – With free legal assistance from the National Right to Work Foundation, WRTV anchor Patricia Shepherd has filed federal unfair labor practice charges against the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) union.

Shepherd's charges allege that AFTRA officials demanded she pay dues despite the fact that she is not a union member and the union has not had a contract with her employer for the past two years.

Because Indiana lacks a Right to Work law, employees can be forced to pay union dues for the purposes of workplace bargaining just to get or keep a job. In recent months, Indiana legislators were considering a law to make union dues payments strictly voluntary, but Governor Mitch Daniels and House Speaker Brian Bosma, despite strong majorities on record in favor of a Right to Work bill in both chambers of the state legislature, ultimately killed the legislation.

First I would like to thank my parents for being there for me while I was writing this paper.  Father, your involvement with the legal profession sparked my interest in the law.  You are an inspiration to me and inspired me to take on this legal topic.  Mother, thank you for supporting me while I wrote this paper.  Without your support and guidance I would not be where I am today.  I would also like to thank those who have contributed so much to the study of Right to Work laws, including Baird, Dinlersoz, Ellwood, Fine, Greer, Holmes, Mishel, Moore, and Wilson, who made this paper possible.  Lastly, I would like to thank Professor Siedel and my fellow senior seminar classmates for providing me with valuable insights, new ideas, and much needed perspective.

Abstract

Should a state adopt a Right to Work law?  This question has been and continues to be hotly contested.  In brief, Right to Work laws prohibit unions from including certain types of union security clauses in their contracts with companies that effectively force the company to make their employees either join the union or at least pay a proportion of their union dues as a condition of employment.  Proponents of Right to Work laws point to research that says Right to Work laws have a positive effect on states that adopt them while opponents of Right to Work laws do just the opposite.

The purpose of this paper is to sift through the great deal of research currently available to decide whether a state should adopt a Right to Work law.  To make this decision, this paper primarily focuses on how Right to Work laws affect a state's people: their wages, their employment levels, their morality, their unions, and their wealth. In examining the moral issues associated with Right to Work laws, this paper looks at both the "forced union dues" problem and the "free rider" problem.

After weighing the pros and cons of Right to Work laws this paper finally concludes that Right to Work laws are a net benefit to a state and should be adopted because the benefits to a state's people outweigh the costs: Right to Work laws create jobs and spur economic activity.

Yeah, that would be the propaganda used in force feeding that crap to the people of this state.

If they believed it was so "vital" why were they so afraid to put the question to the people via referendum?
