No Fruit Loops, it wasn't socialistism.  It is the fall out from the predatory Supercaptialist, who robbed this county blind and sold all of our bad stock and bond to them.

All of the idiots who can't see what they won't see.

I could just see the Chicken Hawk, if he had a lot on money, he would be of hell of a mean, greedy sonuvabitch and step on everyone and probably do it was in the name of god.

****WARNING - THIS MAY GET LENGTHY*****

I spent 4 hours changing a fuel filter and motor oil in my truck today. . . And I've got some issues. . .

Why the hell do they make trucks with engine compartments so small and jammed full of crap, that you have to hire a midget to be able to reach routine maintenance items/areas?

Now, typically I have my oil changed, but since they want to charge such an unreasonable sum to change the fuel filter, I decided to do it myself, and go ahead and do the oil change while I was under the hood. It was like performing brain surgery just to get the damned canister unscrewed from the engine. I was forcing my hand between fuel and coolant lines, (I know I am going to have a bruised hand due to this, since it is already swollen), and trying to get into a position to obtain enough leverage to twist the SOB off. No dice. Had to go out and buy a strap wrench for 8 bucks, after spending 2 hours trying to get it done.

Then of course I had to prime the engine, fuel canister, lines, after finally changing out the GD filter. . .

As a result I have a suggestion for the jackasses at GM, next time make the friggin primer pump robust enough to accomplish this without having to spend 20 minutes pushing that stupid "button" on top of the housing a couple of hundred times! (But at least doing so provided an outlet for the high level of frustration trying to get the damned canister off gave me. . .)

Then I moved on to the routine oil change task. HAH!

Those apes at the oil change joint must have welded the damned oil filter on! I used every damned method I know to loosen it and succeeded in only denting the filter shell. I had to pour the new oil in anyway, because by the time I discovered this I had drained the engine of oil already. I thought about just driving a screwdriver through the SOB but did not want to resort to such a drastic method.

Went to the store and paid another 8 bucks for a "claw type" wrench that I will use to try to remove the oil filter tomorrow and replace it. If that thing doesn't work I'm using the friggin screwdriver method.

I'd say save the cash and go for the screwdriver method.  It's not like you're gonna be using the oil filter again anyway and that's the way the removed mine last time I took it to have it done.  ;)

I think it should be a rule that the car designers have to do a complete detail job and various engine repairs on each car they design before it ever is approved.  A mock up model could be made of the design for them to perform the tasks on.

I'd say skip it altogether and go the screwdrive method:

Use the strap wrench on the oil filter if you can.  BT, DT.

Tried it, and it won't budge. . .

Tomorrow morning it's the spanner type claw wrench I bought, and if that doesn't work I'll use the screwdriver method. . . Just pisses me off. . .

I may start using K&N filters because they have a nut on the end of them to help with such situations, and do it myself from now on. Of course, if I had done the last one myself I wouldn't be having this problem in the first place!

Maybe things could be worse.  I had a friend who bought of of the first front wheel drive Fords.  How did the book tell him to change the filter.  Loosen one motor mount and jack up the engine.

The next year the engineers got their head out of their asses and change the location of the filter.

So PH, did you get that filter off without the help of Extermintor's girlfriend?

There is just way more wrong in that photo than I care to talk about, but some may feel differently and that's OK I guess.

Well. . . yes I got it off and no I didn't have to resort to hiring a midget. . .

Oil change = $58.95

Cost of wrenches to remove stubborn oil filter on the next oil change = $16.00

Value of having a facility stand behind their work = PRICELESS

I tried the new claw style wrench to no avail. In frustration I took the truck back to the Jiffy Lube near the intersection of 53rd and Scatterfield Road. I told the kid on duty what was going on and asked him if they could get it off for me and swap it with my new one. He got the manager.

The manager not only swapped it out for me, but topped off the oil and windshield wiper fluid and did the normal safety checks they usually do. Them he profusely apologised for his staff's mistake, and then refused to charge me anything for making it right!

He said diesel filters have to be installed tighter than regular motor vehicles because of the vibration; but there is no way they should be THAT tight. (He had a HELL of time getting it broke loose and was virtually suspending his own weight in the air by the handle of the filter wrench and bouncing before it came loose.) He called his whole staff over into the pit to retrain them on proper installation of oil filters on a diesel.

Want to guess where I am taking all of my oil change service to moving forward? Yes, Jiffy Lube on 53rd and Scatterfield. It is rare to find such a level of commitment and service these days, and at least I know that if they make a mistake they'll make it right!

Wow, that sure does speak well of them.  We've been taking ours to Miller Tire by the Mounds Mall.  I've always used Pennzoil in my van and specified that was what was to be put in it along with a can of treatment.  Well, I called to see if it was done at the time they had said and the guy said it would be a little longer because the guy that changed it put in the wrong oil and they were draining it and putting in what I had asked for which I appreciated.  They could have left what they put in and I would have never known the difference.
