Glad you were there for here PH.  This scenerio is exactly why someone in her predicament SHOULD retain an attorney ASAP.  It's not about being law suit happy, it's about securing the interests of the survivors.  By pressuring her to settle so soon, they (the perp's representatives) have admitted their liability.  

Attorneys represent the good guys too.  Some of you need to remember that.

I believe that my first interpretation of Jaco's post was absolutely accurate.

I don't for a second believe in any other "spin" anyone wants to put on it, and I stand by what I said -- every single syllable.

Let me just clarify a few things before you boys get your jocks all in a wad. (Cause I know mines starting to ride up a bit right now).

1. The widow was advised by this writer to obtain an attorney based upon the fact that "the body wasn't even cold yet" and the perps lawyers, or rather lawyers representing the perp's company, were pressuring her to consider signing a waiver in exchange for a check to "compensate her for her loss". My advice to her when she called me hysterical and asking me what to do about it was, and I quote: "Don't sign a god damned thing until you obtain the advice of a good attorney".

2. When she asked me how soon she should do this I told her that if she was okay with it I would speak to her husband's attorney, (who also just happens to be another long time mutual friend and one of our school-mates from back in the day), and that he'd ensure that things were taken care of. Which of course he did in an expedited manner with a minimum of intrusion upon the widow and the immediate family. In fact all that was required of her was to take a few business cards to sling at these jokers if they show up again, and instruction to tell them to contact the firm on the card if they wanted to discuss anything about this. Period.

3. She will be formally meeting with said firm inside of the next 2-3 weeks or so, giving them time to obtain the police reports, autopsy report, etc. and time to strategize before meeting formally with the widow.

The only "money grubbing or gold digging" going on during these few days was being executed by the firm representing the deepest pockets in the whole tradgedy; the perp's company. And I will defend this womans good name, reputation, and honor by whatever means necessary if anybody wants to step up to the plate and start slinging crap about her, or making any kind of outlandish accusations.

Shame on me for letting any of you know about this. Lesson learned and it shall not be repeated I assure you.

Maybe I just read the post on a cynical day and it struck me wrong, or maybe I can see that it is a tragedy for ALL concerned.

PH, you once again showed the classy guy that you are...and I am 100% serious.  You did nothing wrong with your post...if anything, you spelled out exactly what is the RIGHT thing to do in a situation like your friend.  The "sum-bag" lawyers that I was referring too, was exactly the one that went after your friend, during her time of grief and confusion, at tried to pressure her into doing something she would have forever regretted.  You offered her exactly the right advise....

My mistake was to take a personal situtation of yours and turned into a political convesation...THAT was wrong.

I appreciated that you DID share this, and if anything, I believe that your actions speak louder than ANY words on here.........and there IS a lesson learned by (hopefully) others, besides myself on here.

Ok well since I'm trying to lose weight and do my weight watchers faithfully, I have to measure out portions.  This is a good thing since that is a major part of my problem.  Well this box of rotini said 1/7 of the box.  WTF?  Now I don't know if there is a smarter way to do this, but don't you know I took out 7 bowls and poured pasta in each one to make 7 servings.  Now I was smart enough to grab sandwich bags and bag the servings, but damn what a PITA!

I usually don't get too bent out about stuff but.... this morning Hubby knocked my brand new crock pot (my Mom gave me for Christmas) off the fridgerator and broke it!!! I know it was an accident. He said he'd buy me a new one so that's good. My Mom would be devastated if she found out.

Here's another one... today the UPS guy dropped off a package. It looks like Hubby may have ordered a bigger TV. I had no clue we were in need of another one?  I hope it's one that can be mounted on the wall in the bedroom but, I won't know until I wake him up for work.  This TV must be ALL assembly required judging from the box.

It wasn't a TV after all.... Hubby ordered parts for his r/c helicopter on Ebay, and the guy he got it from must have bought a new TV recently, and used the box to mail the parts in. I couldn't imagine why Hubby would order a TV smaller than the one we already have.

I think I broke one of my toes earlier today.... I got my Tri-Star vacuum out 'cause I was gonna do the floors and the furniture too and left the beater bar laying on the floor while I did my 'puter desk and stuff and started to go to the living room and my toe met with the beater bar part of the sweeper and it hurt like hell but not like its hurting now...it hurts clear up to my knee... Can't even stand to touch it to see if its really broke or just jammed.    Been tryin' the mind over matter thing for the last two hours and it ain't workin' damn it....

I know that hurts. The shame of it is that there's not a lot that can be done about a broken toe. You might get some good painkillers.
