116 killed by Missouri tornado, tying it for deadliest on record!

Was that today?  We haven't had the TV on all day and may not turn it on at all tonight.

Last night! And they are still counting / finding victims. It started out at 12 this morning at o dark hundred hours before I left for work, jumped to 69 before 0900 and stayed there until just before I posted this here. (Or at least that's when I first saw the count update).

And from what I've seen on local media surrounding our area, we may have had a twister or two ourselves! A poultry barn reported destroyed in Johnson county, and I65 southbound is closed near SR44 there, due to at least one overturned semi! Trees snapped off at the root, and some large ones too, being reported. . .

Joplin Missouri, 116 dead and counting.  The town looks what we did to Iwo Jima in World II, nothing standing over 3 feet high.

I wonder it the government is going to help the people like they do all of the foreign disasters.  We give those people money.  I wonder how much the Republicans will want to charge in interest of the money we loan our people.  I hope they can get some help.

Well, I got most of the flower beds mulched Saturday, and applied weed killer to the balance of our lawn as well. . . I just hope it had enough dry time to take. I have not been outside yet, but I am betting at least half the mulch I put down has taken up residence elsewhere!

My daughter has some friends that live in Missouri sure hope they're ok.  This sooooo reminds me of a couple of summers in the 70's when that crap started around March and it was that way all summer.  Got caught out on the motorcycle in one of those bad storms that year.  It just came up out of nowhere and I can testify that water can feel like sharp needles piercing your skin when yer ridin'.  Not fun at all.......

Oh yeah, does it ever!   You pretty much have to wear a brain bucket with a full face shield in order to prevent your face from being "water-jetted" off your skull!  :spooked:

And soon our coastal dwelling friends will be dealing with what the experts increasingly suspect will be a "higher than normal" level of hurricanes this season!

I highly doubt it. Historically this nation has never shown the level of support to its own citizens, that it extends toward foreign countries. Just as an increasing sector of this nation's government are actively seeking to put ALL of our social safety nets on the block, I expect we'll see a very muted support effort extended toward this disaster as well. (Hey, we'll "loan" you a "reduced interest" sum of cash, but you'll be strapped with payments for the rest of your life, and NEVER be eligible to include it within an insolvency proceeding. Oh, and no writing the interest off against your taxes either!)

It'll take congress 60-90 days (best case) to approve any funding targeted toward this, but they'll pass a bill directing tens of millions of dollars toward the study of bovine flatulence in 24 hours!

Niece lives in Chesterfield. A LARGE oak tree fell onto her garage and A/C unit, taking out both!

Thankfully, all are safe and sound. Nothing but material things destroyed!

Snapped off at the roots - 2/3 of it anyway!

You can barely see what used to be the top of a 2 car garage, beneath the tree at ground level!

There used to be a garage where you see the tree. . . It did catch the back corner of the house too.  :spooked:

Thankfully, they were not at home, and had just left to purchase a new lawnmower!

. . .House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said Monday that if Congress passes an emergency spending bill to help Missouri's tornado victims, the extra money will have to be cut from somewhere else.

"If there is support for a supplemental, it would be accompanied by support for having pay-fors to that supplemental," Mr. Cantor, Virginia Republican, told reporters at the Capitol. . .
