Gettin ready for Fat Tuesday!  I'm gonna take the train to NOLA Monday and visit some friends down there.
Gotta work on my bead collection and visit my favorite Voodoo shop!

Actually, the French Quarter is a sewer.  The only way to celebrate Mardi Gras in the Quarter is from a balcony.  GAWD it's awful--what a stench!

The train arrived at 11:20 am-ish Monday.  My fab friends picked me up in a horse-drawn carriage and we went and had some drinks at an outdoor cafe nearby.  Then we took the carriage to the ferry and went to their house where I unpacked and redressed to go to a neighborhood Lundi Gras gala. 
That was fun!  Great food and music and no gang warfare!

We then made way for the Proteus and Orpheus Krewe parades in Uptown.  I had my picture taken with a Bette Davis look-a-like and then she puked on my shoes.  WHAT A DUMP!   :biggrin:

Party, party--grab some beads and try to make it home in one piece.  There was one stabbing and someone was injured in a shooting while we tried to make our way outta there.  My train left at 8:20 this morning so I missed the Krewe of Zulu parade but I was already over it anyway.

I hate to say it, but Mardi Gras just ain't what it used to be.   :no:

It sounds like a hell hole. Katrina really made a mess of things. I've read the crime rate is outta this world now.  :no:

Well don't get me wrong--not all of NOLA is a hell hole -- it's just that the areas that were bad before are doubly horrific now!  There are some very nice parts of the city that got rebuilt after Katrina but the areas around the Quarter are just now getting some attention.

The 9th Ward is even getting a clean up but no one lives there but gangsters and drug lords.  :-\

Wasn't the 9th ward the area hardest by Katrina? If the gangs and drugs are there it might never recover. :no:
