I just thought I'd share this picture with you, TD...when my sister-in-law was going thru her chemo, my husband shaved his head in tribute. This photo was taken a month before her double masectomy. We call it "The 3 Stooges". The 3rd stooge is their 93 year-old g-pa.

GET YOUR ORDERS IN!!!!

It will be time to harvest the sassafras leaves for my famous, homemade file powder soon!
This stuff is great--you can thicken up a bathtub full of gumbo with just a teaspoon of this stuff--it's nothing like that horrid brown gunk you buy at the grocery store.
It's a beautiful, deep green color with a sparkling flavor.

Who wants some?

Sassafras?   I love sassafras tea but you can't buy the root anymore. :(  The only time I get it now is when we go to Pow Wow's and they always have sugar in it and I'd prefer it without but I get it anyway and suffer the sweet just to have some.

Well, I have about 58 sassafras trees on my property (was twice that pre-Katrina ) and I can dig up a root for you!  It tastes just like root beer.  Well, rootbeer is made from sassafras root--DUH!  I'm sure you already know that!   :stupid:

I appreciate the offer but I will have to admit I don't do well with the root, never figured out how much to use and how long to boil it....lol  Last time I made some from the root I had to water it down big time.  I ended up with about 3 gal from a 2qt pan.  :o  I think I not only used too much root but might have boiled it just a tad too long.

Yeah, there is some technique involved and it is a tedious process--it's easier just to buy the stuff.  But you wouldn't believe the old timers who go to a lot of trouble to cook it down for their home remedies and stuff.  It's amazing what these people do just to cure hiccups!
I trade my file powder with a lot of them and they give me homemade remedies, bread, casseroles; one guy even mowed my lawn for me!

Sounds like a good trade, especially the yard mowing...

That is the absolutely sweetest gesture. What a loving and kind thing to do with and for her and grandpa is a cutie! ;D

That was a great gesture of support, wasn't it?  Nice to know there are folks out there who really "get it" you know?

Yes...my husband had/has an excellant emotional & spiritual connection with his sister -- which is very difficult for him to ascertain with most folks. He would've done anything to support her.

Just got a "fun" package from my cousin......a silkish gown and matching robe (gots some leopard print on it--MEOW!) and a new Stephen King novel; some coconut body scrub with a loofah made from real fibers--kinda like a soft mop--it's neat; earrings, vanilla tea, and a beautiful photo of a crocus her brother took.

Isn't that sweet?  It's sooooo nice to be loved.

CYA--off to the bath

I've been invited to the symphony tonight!  What the hell do I wear?  I don't exactly have a "symphonic" wardrobe--LOL!

Taking advantage of this "crispy" morning to bake some bread and use up some of those pecans!  Gotta hurry cuz this afternoon the high is supposed to be 77
It's hard to get into the spirit of the holidays when your wardrobe still includes shorts and flip flops!  :sun:
