Yep...Ambien & other sleep-aids may not be narcotics, but they can definitely become habit-forming...or rather, it's easy to develop a "dependency" on them.

If insomina becomes "chronic", there's generally something secondary underlying the etiology.

I've had insomnia my entire life. My mind won't turn off. I think my bad childhood has a lot to do with it.

Man, be very careful with that Ambien. They say it's not addictive, but it is.One pill at bed time works for a while, and you reach a plato, and you have to take more. Been there ,done that with Ambien. Same doctor as up above. Luckily, when I told her I was taking 2 at bed time,she cut me off right now. Please be careful with those, it will save you some grief.   

Oh, I hear ya.  I don't take it every night.  Usually during the chemo weeks I can't sleep or wake up sweating.  When I don't have to be at work at 6 am I just tough it out or drink some warm milk.  Thanks for the concern--I need all the help I can get from the 'PROS'   LOL!!

You are soo sweet. A nice lady like you doesn't deserve to have cancer. Nobody deserves to have cancer, but it breaks my heart when somebody as sweet and nice as you gets it.  I know by reading what you write here, that you are one tough gal.  I will definately email you. Did you try mint for the neusea??? When I was young I used to get the nervous gag gags, I never went anywhere without mint.LOL!!!!

Well, cancer isn't choosy.  There are lots of nasty people who got it too!  I just get to hang with a better group of folks!

I am not having the nausea issues with this round of chemo--my energy is just completely zapped, though 

I do drink mint tea every morning at work and it gives me a lift and keeps the tummy happy.

I think mint is a good cure all. Some people actually bathe in it,and soak their feet in it. I have mint foot spray that helps to keep your feet cool. I think I got it from Avon.  I always carry Tic Tacs with me when I work. I talk to the people I wait on,and my mouth gets real dry. I can't leave my register every time I get thirsty, so I pop Tic Tacs. The spearmint and cinnamon are my favorites. I'm glad you're not nauseous this time. Hopefully you'll get your energy back in no time.

Energy is pretty good but now everything I eat or gives me heartburn.  It's a normal side-effect of the chemo but I'm sure it will get better before they zap me again on the 27th!

It seems kind of crazy,you just get feeling better, and then they zap you again. How many more treatments do you have left?? Do they do them once a week?? I'm glad you have some energy,it's hard when you're soo tired, you don't feel like doing anything. Illness can be draining on the body and the mind. I was sick a lot as a child. I had problems with my heart. I spent months on bedrest, and had to follow a really strict no fat, no salt diet. It was really hard because I was a child.I think that's why I just eat whatever sounds good to me.You only live once,and I intend to enjoy it.

It IS crazy but that's how chemo works--as soon as you feel normal again--ZAP!!

I have one more treatment with this particular type of chemo then they are gonna switch me to a different type of chemo medicine for four more treatments--then it's radiation time.  I get chemo once every three weeks--doing it early this time cuz of Labor Day and I won't be able to get an appt.

My SIL (the one who sent me all the hats) is coming to help out next week just in case.  I really appreciate it since hubby is in "retail hell" and can't just leave to tend to me and I hate to ask friends all the time, you know?

How is your heart now?  You takin' care of yourself?

Well, I'm probably headed for a massive coronary,but other than that I'm good LOL!!!I mostly grew out of it,but I have spells here and there.A few years ago I had pericarditis which I've had before. Then probably 3 years ago I had some chest pain, and they found a spot on my heart, after an x-ray. The pill pusher was my doctor at the time,and she insisted I needed to have an angiogram done. So,I had one of those life threatening procedures done. The cardiologist said" I'll trade my heart for yours anytime."  He looked at my chart and said"I really don't know how to tell you this, but this test was a waste of time and money. The spot on this x-ray, is a shadow of your left breast. I don't know who read this x-ray, but it is soo obvious that this is a shadow, I can't believe they didn't see it." So, I could've died having this procedure done,and didn't need it anyway. So, that is why I never go to the doctor. That test cost thousands of dollars, that I just did not have at the time. So, Dex doesn't do doctors.
