Why Me?

Oh, isn't this the question we all ask ourselves?  Even if it's just a speeding ticket.  Why me?

No answer for that.  It took me a while to realize that God wasn't angry with me.  Maybe I just wasn't taking good enough care of my body.

One idiot told me that if I had children I wouldn't be going through this now.  (Believe it or not, stats show that women who have given birth lower their chances of getting breast cancer by 40%)

Genetics? Maybe.  But the only person in my family who has gone through this is a first cousin on my mother's side and her breast cancer was far more severe than mine--went all over her lymph nodes and she endured chemo and radiation for 2 years.  She is now cancer free and has been for 6 years now

Be prepared to ask "why me" and to hear that from other ladies going through this.

My answer is always:  "Maybe God wants to challenge you."  Or I like to quote that fabulous spiritual from "The Color Purple"  God's Trying To Get Your Attention!

sorry to hear that you are having to go thru this.  Just keep a positive attitude and I am sure you will be fine.  They have so many new ways of dealing with cancer now-a-days and I am sure one will work for you.  I will keep you in my prayers.  They are the strongest medicine I know.

AMEN Kittycat!

Yes, I am a very spiritual person and have quite a few conversations with God on a daily basis.

God, combined with the support of family and friends, and, of course, my FABULOUS hubby make me feel so lucky to be here.

Thanks for your input and prayers, Smokey--means a lot!

Cheers!

My auntie often uses the infamous words of Mother Teresa:

I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish
that He didn't trust me so much.

You CAN handle this, dahling.

And another Mother Teresa quote:

It is impossible to walk rapidly and be unhappy.

I don't see anything slowing you down, woman!

Not asking this question now that Tammy Faye has passed.  I watched her last interview with Larry King and although she looked horrible and could barely talk I was so proud of her bravery!

Poor thing--I hope she is finally at peace..........

Ya know I only made it thru half of that interview, and couldn't watch it all. I've never followed anything about her life. I just sat and bawled. OMG that poor woman. I thought she was going to die during the interview. How she had the strength I will never know. At least she is at peace now, and her suffering is over.

Her cancer had manifested itself to take over her organs, so she was in a lot of pain and the chemo wasn't helping so she just made her peace with God and tried to remain as comfortable as possible during her last days.
What a shame ... but she fully admitted that she ignored warning signs and by the time she got to the doctor it was too late.
We all need to get colon screenings after age 40!

Your right. I'm one of those idiots that has good insurance benefits from my husbands job, but I wont go to the doctor for nothing. I should I have health problems. About 6 years ago I started with a new doctor. She seemed great. I had just started a new job, and mentioned that my feet were hurting awful bad. She's like I got something real good for that Vicadon. So, she wrote a prescription for 180 with 6 refills. So, you can probably figure out what happened, Dex got addicted big time!!!! She kept refilling them like that for 2 years. I was up to 20 a day,and these were the highest dosage they have. I worked and did a great job, I drove fine, no accidents, life was awesome, until I ran out of pills. My husband was on Vicadon for his back. My doctors husband was my husbands doctor. He was liberal with his prescriptions too. My husband never abused his Vicadon. It got to the point that I'd take all of mine, and get into his. He had to start hiding his, and by this time I had quit my job( nothing to do with the Vicadon, we got a new manager I hated ). I'd call him at work and beg him to tell me where his Vicadon was. He'd resist but I kept calling and begging him, so he'd finally give in. I was a pathetic addict. As soon as my doctor realized( like she didn't know) I got a registered letter in the mail, saying she'd no longer be treating me. What a shock!!! So, when I ran out that was it. I detoxed at home for 3 days, and never went back to Vicadon. I was addicted for the better part of 3 years. So, now when somebody asks me, if she's a good doctor, I tell them she's the biggest pill pusher in the area, and go somewhere else. Granted she didn't force the pills down my throat, she made it way too easy to get addicted.

Oh Dex, honey!

I'm so sorry--what a horrible, irresponsible doctor--NO ONE would ever give scripts out like that around here--hell you practically have to get three opinions to get some muscle relaxers--I'm serious!

I'm so proud of you for getting off of that stuff--it will eat up your liver faster than scotch--unless it's single malt--LOL!

Seriously, I've been a nicotine addict for years and if I ever were to pick up another ciggie it would be curtains for me, so I understand addiction.

Take advantage of hubby's benefits and go to the doc and GET THE WORKS.  Don't wait til you're an old fart--do it while you're young!

OK--Tallu has fallen off of her soapbox.

I know it's crazy, but I lost all faith in doctors when that happened. I thought the world of her, and it really hurt me. She had an incident not long after she dumped me.She had a lot of addicted patients. I guess she wouldn't refill some man's Vicadon prescription, he showed up at her office, and held a gun to her head, until she wrote  one out.  :spooked:  After he left she called the cops and he was arrested. Don't know what he got out of it, but she got security doors put in, and you had to be buzzed in at the desk LOL!!! It's bad to say, but that was her own fault, In a way she kind of got hers so to speak.  :icon_twisted:

Well, that shouldn't be happening anymore.  They (meaning the FDA) have developed Big Brother monitoring system where people who try to get multiple scripts by taking them to other pharmacies and visiting various doctors can't get their scripts filled til the required due date.

Happened to me yesterday--I had a script filled for Ambien CR on July 22. and a diff doctor wrote me a script for them and I took them to another pharmacy--not to scam--it was just closer.  And they had it in the database and said I couldn't get the script filled til the 22nd of this month.

They're just playing it safe.. Guess they have to since the docs sure as hell aren't, right?

Well, in all fairness...it's not just the doctor's responsibility or physician malpractice in all situations (actually, in *most* situations). There are many "system savvy" folks in our society who have learned to work the system...hence the concept, doctor shopping

Accountability needs to fall on all parties involved...substance dependence is misfortunate, but a reality that society is in the process of slowly dealing with.

tallulahdahling

True--I can understand with narcotics--but Ambien is non-narcotic.  Playing it safe is EXACTLY what they're doing and I'm glad they're policing the docs.  Somebody has to.  Because the dopers obviously cannot.

I mean, how many SPAM emails do you get everyday from some flimsy company trying to send you cheaper versions of Viagra, Valium, Oxycontin, et. al.?

Tough world out there.  Sure has changed from my generation when all everyone wanted was pot and booze!   :'(

Man, be very careful with that Ambien. They say it's not addictive, but it is.One pill at bed time works for a while, and you reach a plato, and you have to take more. Been there ,done that with Ambien. Same doctor as up above. Luckily, when I told her I was taking 2 at bed time, she cut me off right now. Please be careful with those, it will save you some grief.
