(CNN) -- A Kentucky pastor who starred in a reality show about snake-handling in church has died -- of a snakebite.

Jamie Coots died Saturday evening after refusing to be treated, Middleborough police said.

On "Snake Salvation," the ardent Pentecostal believer said that he believed that a passage in the Bible suggests poisonous snakebites will not harm believers as long as they are anointed by God. The practice is illegal in most states, but still goes on, primarily in the rural South.

Coots was a third-generation "serpent handler" and aspired to one day pass the practice and his church, Full Gospel Tabernacle in Jesus Name, on to his adult son, Little Cod. 

Guess that guy figured out that he either wasn't anointed, or that simply....God sucks!   

Either way, he's dead.

I read that earlier today and had to stifle a laugh. You play with snakes you are going to get bit; simple as that. As many have said to me in the past,  "God helps those who help themselves"; and playing with venomous snakes is not considered helping yourself.

That equates to $31,200,000.00 a year in income, if those two days are representative of the weekly intake of his church. All untaxed.

Joel Osteen is a very interesting person. Since his program comes on Sundays after Fox News Sunday (yes,I'm a democrat) I sometimes catch some of his brand of motivational speaking ... uh, preaching, which lately has included a bit of his version of epigenetics. His ingenuity is to say the least, very interesting.

Well, you all are probably going to bash me good but I do believe in God but I also think that God helps those who help themselves. I believe in other religions and I was raised in a Protestant home, went to church every Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday, went to church camps and even attended a Christian college and then converted to Catholicism when my husband and I married. I left the Catholic church several years ago because quite honestly I don't believe all the Catholic church is cracked up about.  I still have beliefs ingrained in me but I am open enough to believe other things. The Kentucky snake handling preacher was a dumbass and got what he deserved.
