Isn't this kind of like a which came first the chicken or the egg conversation?  You can't have a chicken without an egg but you can't have an egg without a chicken so not only is it which one was first but how did the first one get here in the first place.  I have my own ideas on that but it wouldn't go in this thread at all so I'm thinking about starting another but not sure about it at this point.
