We are in a petrie dish, and God is a Scientist. Sometimes he introduces something into the dish, we call these miracles, or (what's that phrase...)  oh Acts of God.
Looks like I've come full circle.

And I still believe that there is a Creator of some kind, that most of us refer to as God.  I believe is a Celestial Being, and I'll stop there before I get accused of blasphemy. LOL

Even if one was to go with the supposition that there is indeed a "creator" of the universe,  it is a far stretch that the "creator" is the god of the bible.  The evidence just doesn't stack up that way.

As to blasphemy, I'll take the lumps for you, for I'm a lot further down that road than you are.

Well it's just something that I've entertained in my thoughts on occasion, that the world here was populated with human beings, actually Aliens.  That there really are Alien civilizations out there that are much more advanced than us, that have been for thousands of years.  Who populated this planet as an experiment in a haphazardly controlled environment to see how we would evolve.  I have lot's of Science Fiction thoughts on this.   This would give us a creator of OUR universe, not necessarily THE universe.  And the God that we 'came' from, is long dead, but constantly replaced by his colleagues, in the continued study of Man on Earth.

But what if we are wrong to expect anything of God?

I agree.   I don't expect anything at all of any god.  Unfortunately, many do, and due to their desire to believe in him, they'll construe any possible outcome of any given situation, as being attributable to a god, regardless of whether or not the situation turned out well for them.

What if He simply created everything and then just sat back and watched?

Perhaps we think along similar lines.  From my post above:

Quote from: Locutus
My point is that there is extraordinary evidence that god, if he exists at all, has gone along his merry way and is no longer concerned with the whole "human" business.

BLASPHEMY!!

I can't wait until some of the X-tians sink their teeth into that one.  Or the Muslims either for that matter.

But it follows so much of what was in the Old Testament, doesn't it?  A piece of Adam was taken and behold, there is a woman.  That sounds like cloning, even though the resulting clone was of a different gender.  How could that happen if all the genes are male? Can't explain that, remember, the Aliens are much more advanced than we are. And later on down the road, some of the things that are in the bible, the burning bush for one, a halogram (sp), what about the wheel in the sky that turns within another wheel? a spaceship.   The tower of bable (sp)?  A communications tower with a scrambled signal.  Etc.

Who says I believe any of this?  I'm just a fan of Science Fiction.

You've got to remember that drugs grew wild at that point in history  and weren't illegal.

LOL drugs still grow wild, and it's a shame that anything natural can be illegal.

....I'm left to draw the conclusion that in the best case, god simply sucks, or in the worst case he's just a prick who enjoys fucking with people.

Care to try again?  Please point out where I said any Xtian, or them collectively, are being a prick(s).  I'll also state again, it wasn't a simple misspelling.

You're through?  I said "god" either sucks, or is being a prick, and yet you choose to twist my words to say that xtians are being pricks?

You're right, you are through.   You can't explain it, and that's the problem.

well right now it's Science Fiction, what would we think if suddenly we had the data from the last 10,000 years showing how we have been scientifically manipulated all these years?

And for UFOlogists, wouldn't the abductions and animal mutilations finally have a logical place in history? Removed from the petrie dish, examined, altered and replaced.  Sad to think that either way, by religion or some kind of Science, we are still just an experiment of one kind or another.

I'm thinking of a convesation I had with awol recently about old souls and I said that we are all old souls, that we have all been in existence since before man was placed on earth.  Our energy (spirits) have always existed, and God just gave us a place to hold that energy in place. Okay, God, or Celestial Being, whatever.  The human body is just a shell, with organic mechanisms.  Who knows what or where the consciousness comes from.  Even Science can't answer that yet.  We are told that energy never dissipates, it merely changes form.   And I'm getting to a point where I don't know where I'm heading here, so I will stop, right after I say:   It's hard to believe in God, and that Jesus was his human offering, when there are so many possibilities/alternate theories.  Having an open mind can be more sucky than someone else believing that God sucks.
